i was wondering if anyone using xdm gets /etc/X11/xdm/Xstartup loaded
when you log in?
man page sais "After the user logs in, xdm runs the Xstartup script as
root.", so between Xsetup and Xsession. but my /var/log/xdm.log only
has:

Whenever I install a new text editor, it will "hijack" the files
without notifying me. My .tex files were associated
with Kile and when I recently installed emacs, it hijacked the file
associations.
