I'm giving up on this for now. I set up wicd to verify that my driver was not
to blame and it worked on the first try, so I'm not going to fight with it
anymore. I would still like to no have to log into X to get wireless running,
but for now I can make do. Thanks.

I've been using the vesa driver but i can't set the resolution grater
than 800x600 because x doesn't run and sais i haven't got enough
memory. This chipset have 512K

I have posted my problems with this driver already on the
Archlinux-forum. The only way for me to have a reliable connection is
with the ndiswrapper
