[Bug 498587] [NEW] Thunderbird running very slow

2009-12-19 Thread vimo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

Thunderbird seems to have no problems on my Ubuntu 9.10 with the exception that
every thing it does needs many seconds to complete (refreshing the application
window or opening an e-mail already downloaded). I deleted over 50% of my
messages (now they are around 150) and compact folders, with no speedup.
Maybe it is a problem with the video card (ATI RADEON X800SE)?

2014-04-28 Thread vimo
Public bug reported:

Upgrade process stop with this error.

Impossibile calcolare l'avanzamento.
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

 This can be caused by:

 * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

Se non vengono installati, segnalare il problema usando il comando
«ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core» in un terminale.

I was trying to upgrade from Ubuntu 13.10 (installed on new system about 2

[Bug 1579489] Re: mysql-server won't start

2016-05-10 Thread vimo
Thank you Lars.
The table .smatool/DayData is part of a databese named smatool tha was updated
every boot bya a cron command.
I removed that cron command and the issue still persists.
I tried to change the root password of mysql.
Tried to purge everything related to mysql.
Tried to install mysql-server-5.6.
Nothing of these actions worked.
Now I reinstalled mysql-server-5.7 again and it is all the same as before. No
mysql start at boot, no start with 'sudo start mysql' ("Job failed to start").
It starts only with the command 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure mysql-server-5.7'.
After that everything works, included the updating of my smatool db.

Only one change: the file /var/log/mysql/error.log disappear.

Maybe a future update of mysql or a complete reinstall of Xubuntu (but I
have no time to do this right now) could solve the problem.

Thanks for the time you dedicated to me.

[Bug 1579489] [NEW] mysql-server won't start

2016-05-08 Thread vimo
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to xubuntu 16.04, mysql won't start neither at boot nor
manually.
I tried to purge and reinstall mysql-server and mysql-common several times
without success.

When I try to start mysql manually with "sudo start mysql" I got the message
"Job failed to start".
Reconfiguring with "sudo dpkg-reconfigure mysql" produce no output (so it
should be ok) but trying to start mysql again produce the same error message as
above.

The problem is temporarily solved with "sudo dpkg-reconfigure mysql-
server-5.7" until the next boot when the issue comes again.

After a dist-upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04, exploring the system with Unity Desktop

[Bug 2065476] Re: During boot, after grub selection screen, it appears "error: sparse file not allowed - Aborted. Press any key to exit."

2024-05-30 Thread vimo
I solved the problem by reinstalling Grub on the same hard disk on which
it was installed before.

grub-install /dev/sdX (where sdX is the hard drive on which grub was installed)
and then
update-grub

[Bug 2065476] [NEW] During boot, after grub selection screen, it appears "error: sparse file not allowed - Aborted. Press any key to exit."

2024-05-11 Thread vimo
Public bug reported:

After updating Xubuntu 23.10 to version 24.04, during boot, after
selecting the Xubuntu version from the Grub screen, I get the error:

"error: sparse file not allowed
452: out of range pointer: 0x54b42620
Aborted. Press any key to exit".

Searching online it seems that this problem is linked to btrfs file
systems, but I only have Ext4 file systems.

Some online guides suggest editing the /etc/default/grub file by placing entries
GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=false
GRUB_DEFAULT=0

and then run "update-grub", but this solution didn't work.

When the error appears, pressing a key will boot the system normally.
