[Bug 195605] Re: Sound not configured properly on Sony Vaios using snd_hda_intel

2009-01-04 Thread tran
Same bug on Sony Vaio VGN-NR11Z. It can be solved by adding the
following to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base:

options snd-hda-intel model=sony-assamd

Good luck!

PS It would be nice if this is correctly autodetected. Please let me
know if and how I can provide you with more information.

Re: [Bug 478044] Re: 9.04 to 9.10 upgrade

2009-11-13 Thread Tran
Well, once it came to upgrade the Open office package, that is where
the problem occurred; Quite a few packages where upgraded, then once
the OpenOffice suite was being upgraded, the error message started
showing up... After an hour of seeing nothing but something along the
lines of the line of: "there was an error in in the , most likely
caused by a bug in the dbus.." you would press Ctrl-C too. The
message repeated occasionally, but quickly, at first then finally
stopped, and nothing seemed to be going on in terms of disk activity.
Ctrl-C was the most benign thing I could do at that point in time.
Funny enough, processing continued on the remaining packages, and
wasn't going to worry about it too much, figuring I could always put
on a clean install if the upgrade was hosed.
However everything else went along fine, then at the end a dialog came
up saying that an error was detected and that the system could be
unstable. Another dialog came up saying would I please report the
detected error, so I did. Didn't think that it was considering Ctrl-C
was the error.

There was no other way I could see for it to continue processing other
than pressing Ctrl-C in the progress window... or powercycling and
having a hosed system for sure. I don't recall if I had any other
options at that point in time - the dire warning of once the upgrade
is in process you cannot stop ( or have an unstable system) certainly
left no other options.

You may call this invalid, but it certainly happened to me and I think
I pursued the best possible option at that time.

[Bug 41271] Re: mousepad doesn´t print

2006-07-13 Thread Dinh Tran
I saw this problem recently too. Printing through mousepad brings up
the xfprint4 dialog (the same as calling "xfprint4" from command line)
but then get error "client-error-bad-request".

A workaround is to then call xfprint4 directly from CLI. But this
produces a more serious bug: the original text file that is printed gets
deleted.

In my case, I am printing through cups to cups-pdf.

pcmcia modules do not seem to get loaded and the card does not get

[Bug 109399] Re: DWL-610 network card no longer works under Feisty on Thinkpad X30

2007-04-27 Thread David Tran
I have tried the steps suggested in the above article. There is no
difference. The problem is at the driver level, where the pcmcia driver
does not seem to be loaded when the card is inserted (as shown in dmesg
output).

[Bug 109399] Re: DWL-610 network card no longer recognized under Feisty on Thinkpad X30

2007-04-29 Thread David Tran
I got some good pointers from that article, and proceeded to grab the
Realtek rt8180L driver source code from Sourceforge, got it compiled and
deployed. However, although the card was detected and the ACT link light
lit up, there was no connection established. Checking the output of
"iwlist wlan1 scan" shows the Link Quality hovers consistently between
0/100 and 32/100, even though the laptop is practically next to the
access point. I am beginning to think half of the problem is the device
drivers for these old cards do not seem to be included in Feisty, but
the other half seems to be the lack of support for these wireless
devices in the kernel itself. The reason I am coming to this conclusion
is because I had exactly the same outcome with a Belkin F5D7050 USB
stick, which uses rt73 drivers (I downloaded and compiled up the driver
and got it recognised by the kernel, only to get the same problem with
the link quality). I would like to protect my investment in these
wireless cards for a while, can you recommend a working wireless
solution for Feisty ?

[Bug 109399] Re: DWL-610 network card no longer recognized under Feisty on Thinkpad X30

2007-04-29 Thread David Tran
OK, I have some more information for you which might help you zero in on
the problem. I have managed to get the DLink card working, but only
under the following conditions:

1. The Access Point publishes the SSID. Hidden SSID simply kill the card
'link' light immediately

2. The IP address for the card is configured to be static. DHCP mode
works only first time when the laptop is started up. Subsequent to that,
if you pull out the wireless card and plug it back in, not matter what
you do, the laptop simply fails to acquire a new dynamic IP address.

3. You have to boot up using the generic version of the kernel
(2.6.20-15-generic) from the boot menu, or the source code above will
not compile (I was booting up using the 2.6.20-15-386 at one point, and
had loads of problems looking for the modules related files in the
kernel source tree).

4. The rt8180 module is compiled and deployed with the kernel (the
source I downloaded from the Sourceforge website was written for a 2.4
kernel. I made the appropriate patches to get it to compile under 2.6
kernel. The source code is attached below).

So all in all, it seems support for wireless is broken somewhat (I still
could not get the Belkin F5D7570 USB stick to work, even after trying
the above). I can live with it for now, but the situation is hardly
ideal, specially for folks who expect this stuff to work out of the box,
as it did with Edgy Eft 6.10.

[Bug 1882158] Re: nm-applet /usr/lib/libnma.so.0: version `libnma_1_8_22' not found (required by nm-applet)

2020-06-05 Thread Huy Tran
Just a follow up on this issue: The libnma.xxx inside '/usr/lib' are
versioned 0.0.0. I did some searches and suspected it might be due to a
broken upgrade (to note that the upgrading from 18.04.4 LTS to 20.04 LTS
went smooth, no issues). I manually remove those libnma*0.0.0 and 'sudo
apt install --reinstall libnma0', then 'nm-applet' works.

[Bug 1834085] Re: Bluetooth touchpad (Apple Magic Trackpad) disconnects every few minutes

2020-04-26 Thread Kimberly Tran
Disabling upower isn't enough -- it will start up again when an app
(such as your browser) requires power management support. You have to
uinstall upower from your system. (Note that this will make some apps,
such as steam, unstable.)

This bug started happening when I switched out my wifi card. I have a
Dell XPS 9560. My Magic Mouse only started having these disconnect
issues after I switched to an Intell 9260 card. I might switch back to
Killer card to verify.

I caught upower doing its (bad) thing just now, after being started up
by brave browser.

Apr 26 22:21:21 nodoubt dbus-daemon[833]: [system] Activating via systemd:
service name='org.freedesktop.UPower' unit='upower.service' requested by

Apr 26 22:26:15 nodoubt kernel: magicmouse 0005:05AC:030D.000D: unknown main

Magic mouse is now disconnected.

If I completely uninstall upower, the problem goes away.

[Bug 1234252] Re: [MacBookPro8, 1, CS4206] Left speaker low volume and absence of low freqs

2014-05-15 Thread Tai Tran
i'm not an expert, but i did have sound problems installing Windows OS
in EFI mode.

Did you try booting into the normal CD when installing linux? (If you did it by
USB then it probably was EFI mode, since macbooks can only boot that way from
them.)
*There's usually two options when booting into CD, when you hold alt/option at
startup

Not that i've tried it, but it might be what is causing it.

[Bug 1604013] [NEW] FTBFS with GCC 6: narrowing conversion

2016-07-18 Thread Giap Tran
Public bug reported:

Bugs from Debian project (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-

From: Martin Michlmayr
To: sub...@bugs.debian.org
Subject: ibus-unikey: FTBFS with GCC 6: narrowing conversion
Date: Tue, 19 Jan 2016 17:52:19 -0800

Package: ibus-unikey
Version: 0.6.1-1
Severity: important
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: ftbfs-gcc-6 gcc-6-narrowing

This package fails to build with GCC 6. GCC 6 has not been released
yet, but it's expected that GCC 6 will become the default compiler for
stretch.

Note that only the first error is reported; there might be more. You
can find a snapshot of GCC 6 in experimental. To build with GCC 6,
you can set CC=gcc-6 CXX=g++-6 explicitly.

You may be able to find out more about this issue at
https://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-6/changes.html

[Bug 685155] [NEW] Firefox collapsed navigation and bookmarks toolbar causes crashes

2010-12-04 Thread Huy Tran
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Ubuntu 10.10 (Linux ... 2.6.35-22-generic-pae #35-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16
22:16:51 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux)
Firefox (3.6.12+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.10.1)

Firefox 3.6.12 running on my Ubuntu 10.10 box has been crashed
occasionally with the well-known reported bug "Fatal IO error 11
(Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server". This time, I'm not
quite sure if this bug relates to the aforementioned bug but perhaps it
can bring some further evidences and be likely reproducible. I have
repeated the situation several times and got identical results.

1) Install Firefox.
2) Start Firefox with a fresh profile (no add-on)
3) Open the URL http://emacsformacosx.com
4) Right click at the main menu or toolbar, then disable the "Navigation
Toolbar" and "Bookmarks Toolbar" (no matter in which order). The crash should
happen after these two toolbars are totally disabled.

Step (3) and (4) can be performed in any order. That is, if you perform
(4) then browse to http://emacsformacosx.com, the crash should happen
immediately.

In case further clarification or information is needed, please kindly
let me know. I'm not quite sure if the .xsession-erros.old is useful but
anyway, the file is enclosed.

[Bug 1446410] Re: ubuntu 14.04 does not call iscsistart to login to iscsi boot target

2015-04-23 Thread minh tran
in response to comment #5
This is not a kernel problem but rather a init script problem with initrd not
executing `iscsistart` command to login to iscsi boot target. If you read bug
description above, you will see there is a workaround by manually running this
command on 14.04. I know sles11sp3/rhel6.1 or later are working even though
their kernels are older than v4.0.

[Bug 757467] Re: Radeon 7000VE (rv100) fatal error during GPU init

2011-10-17 Thread T Tran
Yes. I still get dmesg error "radeon: probe of :01:00.0 failed with
error -22" and Xorg.0.log warning "(WW) RADEON(0): Direct rendering
disabled".

I've been running with kms off to avoid the above error & warning, but
I'm guessing this just hides the actual error, which is occuring
elsewhere.

2011-12-26 Thread Hung Tran
Hmm, I don't know why the log says that "Package: language-selector (not
installed)", but after I run "sudo apt-get install language-selector",
the problem in this bug report still exists.

2011-12-26 Thread Hung Tran
Thank you very much for the information, Gunnar.
I just checked and I have language-selector-common and language-selector-gnome
installed already.
I have no idea why it shows nothing in the drop-down list.

[Bug 908762] Re: "Keyboard input method system" drop-down list is emtpy (ibus was installed)

2011-12-26 Thread Hung Tran
Thank you so much sir, that does the trick!

This was important lines that I got in terminal when running the
command:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  im-config
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  im-switch
dpkg: im-config: dependency problems, but removing anyway as you requested:
 ibus depends on im-switch; however:
  Package im-switch is not installed.
Package im-config which provides im-switch is to be removed.

ibus is installed by default in Lubuntu but somehow im-switch is not.

Thank you very much for your time and support!

I'm sorry, I have just checked the live CD, ibus is not there. So this
must be my mistake. You can "close" this report. Thanks again!

[Bug 1171070] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS 64bit failed to install with Lenovo T61

2013-04-20 Thread john tran
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu-12.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso failed to install with Lenovo T61.

I installed the ubuntu-12.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso into my USB to run. It
worked fine. But, when I installed this version into my Lenovo T61
laptop, it never worked. The mouse was frozen, the display resolution
was really low. I had tried with several different configurations, but
the only thing I could do was reboot the system. It seems to me the
Linux kernel could not detect devices on board correctly.

I installed back ubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso into my HD, it worked
right away.

Regards,
John T.
