Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: netbase
/etc/init.d/networking will not touch interfaces if
/var/run/network/ifstate indicates that all devices are configured and
up-n-running
This is quite a bad idea if the system crashed and is rebooted. in my
case (remote-hands only) the server was unreachable until i zeroed
/var/run/network/ifstat through a rescue-system
I suggest the script checks if /var/run/network/ifstate modification-
time is older than the computers current uptime. if it is, the file must
be deleted and all interfaces should be considered unconfigured.
Afterwards the file is in an sensible state.
** Affects: netbase (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
