[Bug 384590] [NEW] Hard system crash with nvidia 173 drivers
Public bug reported: I have recently installed 9.04 on an older P3 machine that I have an nvidia GeForce FX5200 video card. [Bug 379172] [NEW] Seahorse doesn't distinguish subkey usage types
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: seahorse lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 9.04 Release:9.04 seahorse: Installed: 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status After reading the GNU Privacy Gaurd manual for wisdom on key expiration, I found the recommendation to use a never expiring signing key, paired with an expiring encryption subkey that can then be replaced at will. This was, of course, quite easy. When I do a gpg --edit-key on my key, I see the following: pub 4096R/472EBFF2 created: 2009-05-21 expires: never usage: SC trust: ultimate validity: ultimate sub 4096R/C05B2CE2 created: 2009-05-21 expires: 2010-06-21 usage: E [ultimate] (1). Stephen J. Carpenter However, in seahorse, there is no distinction at all between the signing key and the encryption key. Specifically I am looking at the properties of the key in question, looking on the Owner and details tabs. In fact, as I created the key as an RSA signing key, the use under the "Owner" tab read: "Use: Decrypt files and email sent to you" This was even before the encrypting subkey was created, even though gpg clearly recognizes the key as a signing key. ** Affects: seahorse (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Seahorse doesn't distinguish subkey usage types https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379172 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 349312] Re: Evolution 2.26 does not support import of outlook .pst
If you're just now migrating from a Windows/Outlook environment, you could always use Crossover Office from Codeweavers which enables you to run Outlook 2003 directly under linux using a Wine compatibility layer. [Bug 255161] Re: I am unable to print from open office, I tried reinstalling open office but it did not work. I use a brother mfc240c printer and I am running Hardy. Printing from other apps has not b
What a fascinating bug!! My wife has complained that open office will never print on Tuesdays!?! Then she demonstrated it. Sure enough, won't print on Tuesday. Other applications print. I think this is the same bug. Here is my guess: Print to a postscript file. Observe the line: %%CreationDate: (Tue Mar 3 19:47:42 2009) Change "Tue" to anything else: %%CreationDate: (XTue Mar 3 19:47:42 2009) Save the file and it prints. Tools like evince work because they simply omit the "CreationDate" tag to begin with. Now something odd happens when my cups script (I am using the Brother MFC420CN) copies the file to a temp file. Some of the code is rearranged, not sure how or why, but it uses a command called "file" to identify the file as "PostScript". This check would work on the original file you printed, but by the time it runs the check on the temp file, it misidentifies. Normally it would return: PostScript document text conforming at level 3.0 But there is another check that happens before the PostScript check. If it finds "Tue" at the fourth byte of the file, it identifies it as: Jan 22 14:32:44 MET 1991\011Erlang JAM file - version 4.2 So it's not a problem w/ openoffice.org, cups, or the brother printer drivers. It is a bug in the `file` utility, and documented at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file/+bug/248619. Now, I cannot recommend a fix, but here is my workaround hack: make a change in file /usr/local/Brother/lpd/filterMFC420CN change: cat > $INPUT_TEMP to: cat | sed -e 's/^%%CreationDate: (Tue/%%CreationDate: (tue/' > $INPUT_TEMP This will identify a pattern that matches "%%CreationDate: (Tue" at the start of a line, and change "Tue" to "tue". -- I am unable to print from open office, I tried reinstalling open office but it did not work. yes it works fine in vista, but in ubuntu even when very close to the router it sits at about 20-30% signal and at the farthest point which is across the room in my studio apartment it is even lower. in 8.04 it worked fine with the built in network adapter, also i have never got the pcmcia card to work even before the upgrade, it is the bcm43xg --- On Wed, 10/22/08, Anthony Noto <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: From: Anthony Noto <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [Bug 287617] Re: very low wireless signal To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Wednesday, October 22, 2008, 9:18 AM Is your wireless signal stronger when using Windows Vista when you are the same distance from your wireless access point? ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: None => linux -- very low wireless signal https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/287617 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. Public bug reported: When dragging rectangles on the desktop (and sometimes when creating a new folder/file), they screen freezes, flickers, goes black, and shows some form of a console that takes keyboard input but does not appear to accept commands (I'm new to this). [Bug 214556] Re: [Hardy] Can't share files
I have been using ubuntu for years now. I have had an interesting experience with Hardy and file sharing. My home network if fairly complicated - I have a seanix pentium 4 1.5gb ram dual harddrive which dual boots xp / ubuntu. My new desktop = dell amd dual core 2gb ram dual boot vista/ubuntu. I have an old sony vaio laptop with ext cdrom, running ubuntu. My wife has a lenovo laptop running xp and a dell desktop running vista home premium. Needless to say I have spent days, weeks, maybe months keeping everything working over the last several years with each upgrade - I am a ubuntu junky. The old desktop(Seanix) has been my file server for the rest of the house actually running xp with ubuntu 7.10(most recently) in a vmware virtual machine as the actual file server - lastest version all working well was gutsy. By working well, I mean every computer had access to our photos and music and movie collection with no password and my wife and I both had home folders available on all the machines with password protection. The only reason my server ran xp with virtual ubuntu was my old printer wouldn't work with ubuntu, nor would my scanner. My printer broke so I got a new one, I got a new scanner -carefully choosen to work with linux. So now is the time to get rid of the last of windows. I downloaded hardy heron i386 desktop and burned one cd. I installed it on my newer Dell desktop to try it out. Printer, scanner work and share. File sharing works out of the box. All looks great. So I use the same install cd on the Seanix, Install hardy heron on its own partition with a separate partition for the home folder. AND file sharing is broken. Non of the folders are shared properly, even the ubuntu machines don't share well any more. I got all of the error messages about net usershare = permission denied etc. I learned about net usershare.I edited my smb.conf(repeatedly) I did the logout/login and even reboot suggestions and still NO proper sharing. I tried all combinations of sharing options after R clicking nautilus folders. There seemed no rhyme or reason to what happened. Allow guest = still need password, no guest - everyone had access to my home folder. It is interesting that some users install hardy and everything works out of the box. Other install hardy and have a nightmare with sharing. I have had both - the only difference being the machine that I installed hardy on. I am not a computer expert, but I hope that this information gets into the hands of someone who can make some sense of it. I have now reinstalled Gutsy on the Seanix - file server and my home network is back to HAPPY with all working well. I would be pleased to send any specific information about the machines, installation, or anything else if someone with the knowhow can help sort out this problem. I am now windows free but would like to have hardy running on all my machines. Thanks for your patience with this long post - I hope that it helps ubuntu and hardy improve. swells5 is online now Report Post Edit/Delete Message -- [Hardy] Can't share files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/214556 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Dear John Kuang, thanks for the solution! >if you bookmark any windows server (eg. smb://server ) that requires password in nautilus, you will SLOW DOWN your save/save as/open dialogs in programs such as gimp, openoffice, and practically any gtk programs. [Bug 253937] Re: Local login fails without LDAP server
Hi, the thing is, that I've already tried setting those timeouts. And there was no result at all. The "lookup" time didn't change. Wouldn't it be a lot more intelligent in libnss-ldap to do a *one-time* check if the LDAP server is reachable, and if not there's just no output. Just something simple like a ping. Only local files will be used. This is the behaviour I expected to happen -- no server, no data. Simple. Short.
