[Bug 374642] Re: high cpu usage viewing pages that contain .gif images (nvidia driver, opengl and antialiasing settings related)

2009-05-12 Thread sterios prosiniklis
'Problem does not occur when .gif images are filtered with addblock or
when nvidia xserver settings are set to default values"

Also, changing the value of "image.animation_mode" (about:config) in firefox
from normal to once solves the problem.
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_:_Tips_:_Animated_Images

It' s definitely an issue triggered by the combination of animated.gif
and nvidia xserver settings.

[Bug 374642] Re: high cpu usage viewing pages that contain .gif images (nvidia driver, opengl and antialiasing settings related)

2009-06-26 Thread sterios prosiniklis
Testing jaunty (Live usb)

Added in Software sources https://edge.launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa,
enabled nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 - 185.18.14 (system>administration>hardware
drivers),
enabled custom visual effects.
In nvidia xserver settings, used the same values off the initial bug report.

Problem persists, in pages with animated gif images.

[Bug 374642] [NEW] high cpu usage viewing pages that contain .gif images (nvidia driver, opengl and antialiasing settings related)

2009-05-10 Thread sterios prosiniklis
Public bug reported:

Jaunty running from a Live cd, nvidia proprietary driver and extra visual
effects enabled
On this page http://www.wdvl.com/Multimedia/Animation/GIF/Examples.html
the cpu usage is almost 100%, when in nvidia xserver settings the opengl and
antialiasing settings
are set to sync to vblank, allow flipping and 16x respectively (or in an other
combination of high quality settings).
Problem does not occur when .gif images are filtered with addblock or when
nvidia xserver settings are set to default values.
Quantity of .gif images seems not to be relevant, same results in pages with
less animations.
Same behavior exists in hardy normal installation, intrepid wubi installation.

The -Dawt.useSystemAAFontSettings=on option makes a small difference
but does not solve the problem.

[Bug 344057] Re: cpulimit.c: Received request to terminate due to CPU overload.

2009-10-12 Thread sterios prosiniklis

For those of you experiencing this symptom with updated (from jaunty-
proposed) linux and pulseaudio, please try changing
/etc/pulse/daemon.conf to use:

resample-method = trivial

then, killall pulseaudio. Simply invoking "speaker-test -c2" afterward
will trigger an autospawn.

The problem persists with resample-method = trivial

[Bug 1730455] Re: caja hangs copying folder from mounted windows share

2018-10-13 Thread sterios prosiniklis
Didn't test thoroughly. Worked fine with a simple test configuration.
When the directory/folder contains more folders in multiple levels (ie
3-4 folders the one inside the other), with long names, fails as
usual...

Similar behaviour in 18.04 ubuntu-mate
Thumbnails for video files and those of ooo-thumbnailer do not show up in sftp

mounted via the caja menu option sftp://xx...@./
smb://xx...@./
In cifs shares instead mounted via autofs preview works as it should

[Bug 579709] Re: No window decorations on login

2010-11-17 Thread sterios prosiniklis
Problem solved.

sudo gedit usr/share/applications/compiz.desktop
change line exec=compiz, with Exec=compiz ccp

Be sure that you do not have in start up applications a compiz or fusion-icon
entry,
and eliminate any custom script you may use to launch compiz

gconf-editor
... desktop > gnome > session > required_components windowmanager=compiz
... apps > compiz > general > options active_plugins check that ccp is
there, if not enable.

Done!

[Bug 177929] Re: We needs file encoding select function.

2011-01-09 Thread sterios prosiniklis
I can confirm comment #46.
In my case, simply uninstalling rar,
solved the problem with name encoding in rar files.
Now, file roller works as expected.

Using "unrar x file.rar" in command line
works correctly in both cases,
eg. with rar package installed or not.

Seems that rar, somehow,
interferes with file-roller behavior.

[Bug 177929] Re: We needs file encoding select function.

2011-01-09 Thread sterios prosiniklis
Ark, is not influenced by the presence or not of rar package.
Looking at the file-roller and ark source,
the problem with unrar command implementation,
lies in /file-roller-2.30.1.1/src/fr-command-rar.cin file

Not a developer, but in the aforementioned file,
changing the order of these two lines as follows,
and compiling solves the problem in file-roller...

if (have_rar ())
fr_process_begin_command (comm->process, "unrar");
else
fr_process_begin_command (comm->process, "rar");

HopeThatHelps

[Bug 1349140] [NEW] pdfshuffler doesn't appear in the right click open with context menu

2014-07-27 Thread sterios prosiniklis
Public bug reported:

pdfshuffler will not appear in the right-click Open With... dialog. To
fix this problem, locate the .desktop file in /usr/share/applications,
edit it as root, and add %U to the end of the Exec= line. For example,
pdfshuffler currently has this problem; you need to edit
/usr/share/applications/pdfshuffler.desktop and change the line reading
Exec=pdfshuffler to read Exec=pdfshuffler %U.

Mime type is missing as well. Just add the line

[Bug 310199] Re: [Jaunty] libcanberra-login-sound.desktop times out

2011-10-31 Thread sterios prosiniklis
Same behavior in oneiric. No login sound.
canberra-gtk-play looks for sound file in /usr/share/sounds/

oneiric@VirtualBox:~$ canberra-gtk-play --id="desktop-login"
Failed to play sound: File or data not found

oneiric@VirtualBox:~$ /usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play --file
/usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/desktop-login.ogg
woks as expected...

Copying /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/desktop-login.ogg to
/usr/share/sounds/desktop-login.ogg solves the problem

I'm not sure if this has to be filed against libcanberra or ubuntu-
sounds since sound theming is disabled or not yet implemented under
gnome3.

This problem appeared in 2.6.32 Kernel.
Beginning with 2.6.37 Kernel this is solved.

I observe increased battery life (+15-20%) in my old laptop.
sudo powertop, agrees with this impression

Ubuntu users can use this kernel

but they are going to loose some ubuntu specific customizations (ureadahead
mainly)

For Lucid there is a much better solution that i currently use. No side

[Bug 118304] Re: [stardict] notification icon not transparent

2010-10-16 Thread sterios prosiniklis
This didn't happen to me in a couple of Ubuntu releases, but upgrading
to Maverick (stardict-gnome 3.0.1-7) introduced it here.

Probably you changed theme, or image for the panel

I just checked with "strace -f -e open -o /tmp/star.out stardict" that only
the icons from /usr/share/stardict/pixmaps/ are loaded.
Viewing these icons with eog or another tool shows them transparent, but in
the notification area I get that light grey background just like in the
screenshot linked above. To verify that the icons don't suffer from some
obscure format error, I replaced one of them (after backing it up) with a
knowingly working one:

cp /usr/share/icons/hicolor/24x24/apps/updates-notifier.png
/usr/share/stardict/pixmaps/docklet_stop.png

The result is the update notifier icon on a light grey background. So
the problem must be the way the icons are displayed, not the icons
themself.

Yes, system theme color is being used, to create icon background.
This is the original bugfix regarding white background of notification area icon

http://www.stardict.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=246

Try using system theme as panel background.
(right click > properties > background > none)

The only way i found to use a different panel background icon without this
issue,
is to recompile stardict using as notification area icon, a custom one with
proper background
(you can create it, using original stardict icon and your actual panel
background)

[Bug 579709] Re: No window decorations on login in Lucid

2010-07-11 Thread sterios prosiniklis
Same problem here...
with intel and nvidia.

Is there a way to get a text dump of my compiz plugins in use? Maybe we
all have a common plugín that's not activated by default. Atleast I have
been modding my compz zettings.

You can create a file in your /home/user directory with following
command

gconftool-2 --recursive-list /apps/compiz > compiz.gconf.values.txt

[Bug 604238] [NEW] notebook new battery data, corrupted (inherited from old one)

2010-07-11 Thread sterios prosiniklis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

not sure if this bug has to be reported against gnome-power-manager...

energy-full: 37.407 Wh
energy-full-design: 48.84 Wh

energy-full value of the new battery is the same of the old one.

1.in a new notebook-new battery (obtained through warranty) i used the old hard
disk to boot, with 9.04 installed.
2.Immediately after, i performed a clean install of 9.10, keeping old home.
3.some time later upgraded to 10.04
4.finally performed a clean install -keeping old home- of 10.04

In all these passages the energy-full value is the one of the old battery,
same value is being reported even when i use a live cd.

seems that some how this value
corrupted new battery data in BIOS or in the battery itself in the
aforementioned passage 1
