Re: [Bug 82986] Re: No sound after initial install

2008-09-09 Thread slowayne
I installed the new program as per instructions. Had an error when
restarting the program. An error report was generated and sent to the
bug people. Did a manual fsck and then things worked right. Once
operating the computer recognized sound programs but would not perform.
Placed a cd in the player and the music player recognized the cd, the
name of the songs etc but would not play. Put a red circle with a line
across it at each entry. Tried to listen to a radio station and
received a notice 'failed to connect stream, Invalid argument."

THis is further than I was able to get in the past. No longer do I have
a volume control in the top line with a line through it. It apparently
recognizes the sound card but does not know how to operate it.

Subject: [Bug 82986] Re: No sound after initial install

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please
specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

Re: [Bug 82986] Re: No sound after initial install

2007-03-19 Thread slowayne
Since you last wrote me I have installed and removed Win XP, and
reinstalled Ubuntu dapper. The sound board is detected by windows and
works perfectly, but alas the Linex system does not detect it. I must
conclude that the problem is in the software someplace. I really like
the part of the system that works but would sure like to have sound as
well. With out the sound I cannot use the movie and other sound
features. Any way you know of that I can override the system and force
it to see the sound card?

Subject: [Bug 82986] Re: No sound after initial install

slowayne, it appears that the modules for your card are not loading, and
the dmesg output confirms it, even though lspci shows that the card
exists.

"[17179606.336000] ali15x3_smbus :00:06.0: ALI15X3_smb region uninitialized
- upgrade BIOS or use force_addr=0xaddr
[17179606.336000] ali15x3_smbus :00:06.0: ALI15X3 not detected, module not
inserted."

Could you post the output of `cat /proc/interrupts` please?

jubile33, can you please confirm that you have the same symptoms? There
are many possible causes for "no sound", and if one is slightly
different, you have a different bug. Is your card an ALI15X3? Do you get
the same dmesg error?

Its a lap top. I have never touched any sound boards if it has one. I have
only added memory cards.

[Bug 82986] No sound after initial install

2007-02-02 Thread slowayne
Public bug reported:

Version 6.06 Computer Laptop KDS 6480. Pent 3 processor. Under device
manager there is listed AT style speaker system with various perameters. When
I click volume control or try to open a program using sound the error message
says I either do not have a sound card or do not have the right GStreamer
plugins installed. I assume I have a sound card of some type at least I had
sound with xp, so do I need to add a GStreamer? If so where and how?
No sounds come from the computer for key clicks or what ever that I set under
preferences.
