[Bug 254468] Re: MASTER: momentary video garbage upon drawing new objects (particularly in KDE)
Just as a datapoint to the Xorg maintainers reading this: Since the patch has been applied to Ubuntu's Xorg, compositing has slowed down for me to a degree that I'm now running without it. For example, it takes well beyond one second to get the yakuake window up with compositing on, while before the Ubuntu Xorg packages were updated, it would be almost instantaneously. It's absolutely swift with compositing off. I'd much rather have the momentary garbage on the screen, that was only a visual distraction but didn't actually render the system less usable. [Bug 39444] Re: Changing an user's password can change another password for a different user
cimmo, you're reporting two cases, one of those is mistaken. 1) If you change the password of the user on the commandline with 'passwd' while you're editing the user with userconfig, you can expect that whatever you confirm last prevails. That is, if you use 'passwd' and then confirm via userconfig, the password you've set with passwd is lost. 2) The second case you're reporting (a new user's password is set to the one of the previous new user) is a bug indeed. I've committed a fix for that one to svn, it'll probably make it into Edgy. Don't know about Dapper (i.e. if it's grave enough to backport). Attached patch fixes it. Can you try the patch, and if it doesn't fix the second case you report, reopen the bug with an explanation how to reproduce it? S3 might be OK for LiveCDs, but I think HAL should disable hibernate on the LiveCD. It does not make sense for individual applications to decide whether hibernate is available, this really needs to be done in HAL, also for consistency reasons. That also holds true for the buggy hibernate case. The "multi users" case might be solved via permission (i.e. you have to be in a certain group to be able to suspend / hibernate, dunno if that's already the case). [Bug 109197] Re: kde-guidance-powermanager: support "conservative" CPUFreq gouvernor
Hi David, The lines starting with "action" use tabs (but as you state, there is some inconsistency in the released code as well (it's fixed in SVN already, that's also why I double-checked). I do not understand your rationale, however. For example: - Why should we use 'userspace' at all (there is no option to set the cpufrequency directly, which is the whole point of that governor) - What is the advantage of 'conservative' over 'powersave' (I guess that would be the easiest to follow path)? [Bug 109197] Re: kde-guidance-powermanager: support "conservative" CPUFreq gouvernor
Hi David, First, thanks for the patch. There are some tab/space issues in there, this *might* work, but it's broken -- don't mix space with tabs in python scripts. As to the actual functionality: I'm inclined to not merge it. Powermanager should be kept simple, we decided (together with usability folks) that we don't want a one-to-one mapping of cpufreq governors with cpu frequency policies. Instead, we decided to offer dynamic (basically what ondemand does), performance and powersave. I think adding "conservative" would be confusing to the user.
