[Bug 386417] Re: Browsing samba share gives error: Mountpoint Already registered

2009-06-19 Thread poofyyoda
This bug is exposed when trying to access a mountpoint, workgroup, or
network server, and they are multiple attempts to perform the operation.
Especially evident when network is slow, since the mounting takes a long
time, the user would double click again, and this message will appear.

The error is very trivial, so for usability when it is triggered,
nothing should happen. Ie - do not show the error.

[Bug 294458] [NEW] nautilus memory leak

2008-11-05 Thread poofyyoda
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10 64bit
Package version:1:2.24.1-0ubuntu1

When nautilus tries to browse a folder with the attatched file in it,
Memory usage increase extensively until all ram and swap is filled, until
program is killed.
This also affected firefox when I was trying to upload the responsible file.

I have renamed the file to memleak.bin, which prevents thumbnailing of the file.
If thumbnailing is disabled the memory leak does not occur.

The memory leak occurs in Ubuntu 8.04, if the file is given a .jpg
extension, but not at all in Ubuntu 7.10

The file originated from my 'wine' windows folder, called "INSNPREF.32n", which
I believe to be a
windows trojan which somehow affected wine.

Steps to reproduce:
1. download attatched file
2. extract the archive
3. browse folder and remove '.bin' from the filename.

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 294458] Re: nautilus memory leak

2008-11-06 Thread poofyyoda
The memory leak occurs when the file attempted to be thumbnailed.

In 8.04 the file did not try to have a thumbnail rendered, so I changed
the extension, to see if that version of nautilus, would exhibit the
same memory leak. It did, so tried 7.10 which did not attempt to
create a thumbnail regardless of the extension.

Sorry for the bad explanations

[Bug 294458] Re: nautilus memory leak

2008-11-06 Thread poofyyoda
"what is the thumbnailer used there?"

whatever the default image viewer/thumbnailer is.

"what is using the ressources when you get the bug?"

This does not just affect nautilus, as firefox had the same issue
The memory usage of nautilus or firefox, increases insanely from
about 20 or 50MB to well over 700MB, (when the RAM is filled).

This means that the bug is probably in the image viewer, which displays
thumbnails.

[Bug 147230] Re: Changing workspaces via scrollwheel on desktop is problematic, especially when using touchpad

2009-09-07 Thread poofyyoda
Disabling one of the most powerful and work enhancing features is just
pure stupid IMO. I can't believe this has gone through, it just
completely disrupts my work. If this is removed by default then there
should be a configuration utility also available by default which
compiz-config is not. This also relates back to the removal of the
custom effects from the visual effects tab, which used to fetch the
necessary package. Now that was usability, and the constant trimming of
these nice usability functions is turning this distro into a static and
dull user environment, which is exlusively catering to noob users and
creating a rift for users with any technical skills, and making the
experience boring.

@nanotube
"disabling workspace switch when scrolling on desktop is one thing (and i think
is just fine), but disabling when scrolling on workspace switcher is quite
another."

that is a known bug in compiz which prevents scrolling on the workspace
switcher, and now there is no way without configuration to change
workspaces with the mouse wheel which is one huge step backward in
usability and many accustomed users are not going to be happy :(

[Bug 438536] Re: Notifications should show up closer to top right

2009-10-26 Thread poofyyoda
Wow, WTF are the developers smoking?

Seriously this is the most retarded 'usability' design change ever made.
"Reduce Customisation" - what a joke. Ubuntu is quickly dissolving into a
solely new user oriented disaster.
A good OS is one where both new users and expert users alike can feel
comfortable at the simplicity and customisability that is offered. I predict a
big fallout from this change alone

Thank God for the ppa package.

--Also, on a desktop system, I almost never receive any synchronous messages (
brightness, volume etc..), and I suspect most other users also experience this.
The notifications by apps such as rhythmbox display MUCH more frequently than
changing brightness controls, so by their logic the synchronous messages should
be below the others, which will bring much less grief.
