[Bug 251344] Re: Hardy proposed 2.6.24-20-generic kernel update will not boot

2008-07-25 Thread piagent
The upgrade from 2.6.24-19 to 2.6.24-20 has presented a problem:
Sony laptop PCG-505ls: NG starting, assume bios, ...
Dell laptop Latitude C610 or older (?): NG starting, ..
Dell laptop Latitude D800: OK
Dell laptop Latitude D600 x3: OK
ALtima AMD 800 custom desktop: OK

btw, I used the launchpad Firefox plugin, works great. Anyone know of a
launchpad bug feeder/reader?

[Bug 223864] Re: package update-manager failed to install or upgrade

2008-04-30 Thread piagent

Oh, yah! Sweet!

Thank you Michael Vogt the "do-release-upgrade -m desktop" did the trick.
I still don't understand why the GUI update manager got stuck. I moved too
quickly to command line so I could see what was going on with the GUI not
thinking to look at the logs that the GUI produced.

[Bug 223864] Re: package update-manager failed to install or upgrade

2008-04-29 Thread piagent
>From Gusty 7.10 (all upgrade installed) to Hardy 8.04 AMD 800mhz i386

had no action after it got to checking database. Detail switch ghosted.
Switched to command line

sudo aptitude install update-manager-core
sudo do-release-upgrade
.
Calculating the changes

Could not calculate the upgrade

A unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the
'update-manager' package and include the files in
/var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport.
