[Bug 244175] Re: kernel 2.6.26-2-generic crash

2008-07-01 Thread phoogkamer
I have a comparable problem. When booting Intrepid Alpha on a VMware
Workstation 5.5.0 it does boot, but when I login the system hangs. I did
not have this problem when upgrading to Intrepid with kernel 2.6.19. I
know that there is a way to pipe the boot kernel messages to the vmware
serial port, but cannot recall how to do this. Does somebody know how?
This will help a lot in debugging.

[Bug 244175] Re: kernel 2.6.26-2-generic crash

2008-07-02 Thread phoogkamer
Ok, I managed to get my console output via de serial port to a log file. I
think there are some serious errors within the log file. The log file is
attached to this posting.
When I log into my Alpha 1 on my vmware workstation the pc speaker gives me a
noise like disturbance on a radio and it totaly jams.
Any idea's.

[Bug 246969] Re: [Intrepid alpha1] gdmgreeter freezes in VMware Server 1.0.6

2008-07-10 Thread phoogkamer
I think I have the same problem. Vmware Workstation 5.5.0 on windows xp.
Running Intrepid Alpha 1 with 2.6.26-3 kernel. Booting is ok, but when I
want to login to GDM it stalls completly. I have logged my console ouput
to a file via the serial port for debugging, but cannot seem to find any
strange things.

Ben,

I have tryed to boot with 2.6.22-3.9 but no luck. Same problem. As far

it can't find my \dev\uuid\[partition code]\ and drops to initramfs.
I will try you're advise with the usb-stick trying to get the dmesg for you.

Hello Sebastian,

I have been out for a few days. After my upgrade from feisty to Gutsy
I got the problem with GIMP but more and more applications were
crashing. So I had to reinstall. I reinstalled the Tribe Live CD 2 and
there was no problem with the gimp anymore. It could have been an
upgrade problem.

Thanks for the help anyway.

[Bug 181311] Re: xserver-xgl => blank background at login, however failsafe GNOME works

2008-01-28 Thread phoogkamer
After login in under a failsafe GNOME session I am able to get a desktop with
xserver-xgl installed. Here I am able to run al the glx tools with succes from
the command line, but when exiting each of these tools I get the following
error:
XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server
":0.0"
after 3225 requests (3224 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

When running compiz from the command line I get the following
~$ compiz --replace
aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity

[Bug 177881] NetworkManager deactivates eth0 at boot

2007-12-21 Thread phoogkamer
Public bug reported:

I am using Hardy Heron on a Dell Inspiron 6400 Intel Dual Core 2 laptop. Kernel
version is 2.6.22-14-generic. NetworkManager version is 0.6.5-0ubuntu10. When
booting eth0 is being deactivated and so is my wlan0. I can start this
interface from the command line with ifconfig and dhclient3, but that should
not be right.
Here is part of my dmesg:

using driver 'b44'.
Dec 20 09:18:12 HK-PH NetworkManager:   nm_device_init(): waiting for
device's worker thread to start
Dec 20 09:18:12 HK-PH NetworkManager:   nm_device_init(): device's worker
thread started, continuing.
Dec 20 09:18:12 HK-PH NetworkManager: Now managing wired Ethernet
(802.3) device 'eth0'.
Dec 20 09:18:12 HK-PH NetworkManager: Deactivating device eth0.

The interface is supported, but deactivated.

[Bug 179537] Error when cancelling print task

2007-12-31 Thread phoogkamer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cupsys

I am running Hardy Heron on a Dell Inspiron 6400 Dual Core 2 laptop. Using
kernel 2.6.24-2-generic and cupsys 1.3.4-2ubuntu3. I can add printers perfectly
and printing goes well too, but when I would like to cancel a print job I get
the following error in a pop up window:
CUPS Server Error
When cancelling job:
There was an error during the CUPS operation: client-error-bad-request

My /var/log/cups/error.log has the following line:
E [31/Dec/2007:13:11:22 +0100] Missing printer-uri, job-uri, or ppd-name
attribute!

My /var/log/cups/access.log has the following line:

And another (maybe) strange thing is that I cannot find the user cupsys!!
If you would like to have more info I would be glad to help.

[Bug 179879] xserver-xgl searches/detects wrong graphics card

2008-01-02 Thread phoogkamer
Public bug reported:

I have installed xserver-xgl version 1:1.1.99.1~git20070727-ubuntu3 on a
fresh Hardy Heron Alpha 2 install with all updates until 02-01-08. My
hardware is a Dell Inspiron 6400 Dual Core with a Ati x1500 graphics
card. Kernel version is 2.6.24-2-generic. When installing xserver-xgl I
reboot and when I try to login nothing happens. I just get the ubuntu
color background with an arrow. When I view my .xsession-errors file it
lists the following:

setgid.
This is not a supported use of GTK+. You must create a helper
program instead. For further details, see:

Starting Xgl with options: -accel xv:pbuffer -accel glx:pbuffer -nolisten tcp

I have read from other bugs that the setuid error does not affect the
session. A strange thing is that it says "Checking for nVidia: not
present." while it should be looking for fglrx. My xorg.conf has the
fglrx driver and there is no nv modules or driver loaded.

Any ideas??

2007-05-15 Thread phoogkamer
Hi Ben,

The attachements shows the output of the commands you gave me.
I will try to get the cat /proc/kmsg to you.
Do you have any clues? The kernel might not be able to detect the
virtual scsi hd from my vmware. It is not the first time I had
troubles with this when booting with new kernels. But it is strange
that the 2.6.20-15 kernel works ok the same vmware image.

2007-05-15 Thread phoogkamer
HI Ben,

I have been analysing the kmsg and saw some things regarding to scsi.
First of all I saw a
scsi1 1:0:0:0: CD-ROM -> this on is later seen as sr1
after that I see a
scsi2: ioc0 : LSI53C1030 - > Could this be my harddisk??
After this entry neighter of the scsi2 data is seen as an dev entry of
some kind. Shortly after this it drops to initramfs.

Ben,

Could you tell me what an mpt driver is? Is it a specific virtual

Or something else?

[Bug 123318] gimp crashes after opening new image

2007-06-30 Thread phoogkamer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

Operating system:
Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon updated until 30-06-07

Kernel version:
2.6.22-7-generic

Reproduce (only with GNU Image Manipulation Program version 2.3.18)
1. Start GIMP
2. Choose File -> New
3. Crash

I am in doubt whether the problem is with GIMP or with ubuntulooks. The
backtrace says ubuntulooks, but I cannot reproduce it with another
application. It does not happen with the clearlooks theme.

Backtrace from program:
This is a development version of GIMP. Debug messages may appear here.

[Bug 123318] Re: gimp crashes after opening new image

2007-07-01 Thread phoogkamer
If I start GIMP with the valgrind options from the
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind manual the program does not fail.
However if I start GIMP without valgrind it fails at the point I
mentioned in my bug discription. I have attached the valgrind log.

So I followed the debuggingProgramCrash howto and installed the
packages you asked for. But if I start the program from the command
line it does not reproduce the crash. However if I start the program
from the menu it crashes at my first given point. The menu command is
gimp-remote-2.3 %U. If I use this command in combination with valgrind
it does nog crash. It also does not crash when I use another theme,
like the clearlooks theme. Any suggestions?

[Bug 112860] drop to initramfs with linux-image-2.6.22

2007-05-06 Thread phoogkamer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22

When I boot with kernel 2.6.22 (even with recovery mode) it drops to initramfs
with the following error:
check root= bootarg cat /proc/cmdline
or missing modules, devices: cat /proc/modules ls /dev
ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/119c2980-84b2-409e-b99f-0571f85c2356 does not exist.
Dropping to a shell.

I am running an Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn upgraded to the latest Gutsy Gibbon

Booting with kernel 2.6.15 works fine.
