[Bug 221119] Re: [gutsy, hardy, intrepid] Blank screen and (EE) intel(0): overrun on pipe B! on i945GM using intel driver
I've got problems too. My editing with Netbeans has become really bad because when scrolling or doing some other operations there's too much lag. Looking at 'top' on shell I see that Xorg raises up to 90% of cpu... that's not acceptable. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/X11# grep pipe /var/log/Xorg.0.log (II) intel(0): 1 display pipe available. [Bug 301764] [NEW] Xorg freeze with 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I can reproduce a feeze with Ubuntu 8.10 upgraded from 8.04. It's reproduceable following these steps: 1. open firefox 2. go on bookmarks 3. find a bookmarks folder, click on it and drag&drop it in another position of the bookmarks drop down menu. 4. everything freezes, I can just move the mouse but I canno close any X applications etc. But I can ctrl+alt+f1, log in as my user and kill firefox. Then ctrl+alt+f7 and I can use X again. While I'm on the shell 'top' says that X uses 60% of mem while firefox 40%. The bug isn't happening only with firefox, but randomly also when I use the terminal-server-client app. I suppose it's a problem with the popup menus displayed, and for some reasons they make everything freezing. Monitoring the system usage with 'top' I see an huge cpu usage by the Xorg process. This is even true when using Netbeans. It's almost unusable and slow because of this problem. I'm attaching now some infos of my system. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Xorg freeze with 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/301764 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

here it is, $ cat /etc/pam.d/common-password # # /etc/pam.d/common-password - password-related modules common to all services # # This file is included from other service-specific PAM config files, # and should contain a list of modules that define the services to be # used to change user passwords. [Bug 25931] Re: Failed to initalize HAL.
Same behaviour here. I tried to uninstall/reinstall hal dbus but nothing. Seems like anyway that if I boot ubuntu in rescue mode [single mode] I'm able to run and start dbus and hal. This *does not* happen instead with normal boot. Right now the steps I do to have my working gnome desktop are: 1. boot in rescue mode 2. at prompt # I give 'gdm' 3. slowly my gdm appears and I can login. this is a pain anyway, it would be great if someone could fix the hal problem. Hi, I cannot have the system booting also giving '/usr/lib/hal/hald-generate-fdi-cache'. It's dbus that doesn't start now... I attach a strace output. If I boot normally I see the system blocked on a 'Starting dbus ...' of something like that. I have to boot into rescue mode. Then at prompt 'strace /etc/init.d/dbus start' gives this the output in the attachment. Is there some command to refresh the cache for dbus like for hald? Hi, yes it is still an issue. When I switch from a desktop with no 3d effects to a 3d-normal effects one, I start having problems with the switcher. In particular: 1. all applications in desktops 2, 3, 4... are positioned to the first one. Having usually a lot of applications opened I had to manually move them to their desktops. 2. In 3d-mode Even if I move a window for example from desk 1 to desk 3, I cannot see the preview in switcher applet, which prevent me from knowing what's in there. 3. Good news guys, I fixed it! Fixing the init scripts I saw that klogd was blocking the booting process. I googled for "starting kernel daemon" and came here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/150006 Simply changing something on ldap.conf solved my problem. I'm on a ldap/AD managed lan. Rebooted and voilĂ , the init process came to gdm. I was wrongly thinking that it could be an hal/dbus problem because I removed the S11klogd script, which seemed to be bad.
