Have the exact error message as above. Also on Hardy Heron 8.04.2 with all recent updates. The message appeared first for a week or so back, and was not there before at gnome login. The system seems not broken or so after login, gnome is working as before, but this annoying message now and then (not every login) are not good. Can't estimate what is wrong. Or 'if' it's something which is wrong judging from the system working as expected as before. Nothing is reported in xsession-errors neither, when the message box appear. But if nothing is wrong no message as this should appear. In today update on my hardy laptop with 2.6.24-21.42 (using 2.6.24-21-generic) the wireless network stopped working. With 2.6.24-19-generic it has always worked. The driver is rtl8187. It's a regression in the current kernel. Yes, after booting up with kernel 2.6.24-19-generic it is working again, like 'CrazySnowdog' says. It is surely a kernel regression. After trying to connect to the wireless network, network-manager is leaving me to insert the passkey again, but it can't connect. Public bug reported: In yesterday update on my hardy laptop with 2.6.24-21.42 (using 2.6.24-21-generic) the wireless network stopped working. With 2.6.24-19-generic it has always worked, and after booting up with kernel 2.6.24-19-generic it is working again. The driver is rtl8187. After trying to connect to the wireless network, network-manager is leaving me to insert the passkey again, but it can't connect. All this with kernel 2.6.24-21-generic. Ok, i solved it with blacklisting the r8187 module. Which is starting instead of rtl8187. When i did that the rtl8187 module loads without problem. I have a Clevo laptop with a Samsung Harddisk. Ubuntu 8.04. I'm totally confused with this issue. My system have hdparm -B 254 and no Load_Cycle_Count, but my 'Load_Retry_Count' is constantly increasing. The clicks is loud, much louder than the clicks from Load_Cycle_Count increase. Sometimes the clicks comes often 2-3-4 clicks in short times and then stops for half an hour or so. The clicks is very bothering. I have disabled tracker, no hddtemp in daemon mode, and i have mounted ext3 with noatime flag. What is that 'Load_Retry_Count' clicks? What should i do to stop them, they are annoying. Hi! Adding the lines from the patch to /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/laptop-tools, but that's not working. On reboot the script overwrites the settings, and must unplug and plug in the power for the laptop mode to be enabled. Is it something else that i'm missing on this? This is really confusing! I have Nvidia drivers on 14.04 and 'nvidia- libopencl1-304-update' installed. Trying to upgrade the wine1.7 from the Ubuntu Wine PPA uninstalls the Wine-1.7 packages. When i trying to reinstall Wine-1.7 it removes the 'nvidia-libopencl1-304-update' package and installs 'ocl-icd-libopencl1' package. Is that the right behaviour? And will it have some negative impact on Nvidia proprietary driver to uninstall that Nvidia package? When I connected the mouse everything was working as expected, except that the middle clicking wasn't working. The mouse has the following map: 1 Left 2 Middle (push roller down) 3 Right 4 Roller Forward 5 Roller Back 6 Roller tilt left 7 Roller tilt right 8 Side button, forward 9 Side Button, rearward 10 Extra button (app switching) When I tried the mouse with 'xev | grep button', the button Left was nr 1, Right nr 3, Roller Forward nr 4, Roller Back nr 5, Roller tilt left nr 6, Roller tilt right nr 7, Side button, forward nr 8, Side Button, rearward nr 9 and Extra button was nr 10. But Middle button was the same as Roller tilt left namely nr 6. It should have been number 2 not 6. Thus the middle click button wasn't properly detected and not working as expected. I can remap the mouse button nr 6 to nr 2 with xinput and get middle clicking but then the left tilt functionality disappear, this button (nr 6) also become a middle click button, nr 2. More testing shows that the problem isn't resolved. Two buttons on my mouse have the same number, number 6 (middle click and roller tilt left). But number 2 which should be the middle button isn't there, I can remap button 6 to button 2 for middle click to work but then the 'real' button 6 disappears (roller tilt left) and I've only roller tilt right on button 7. Ubuntu can't detect the button 2. As info06 clearly states this isn't a hardware issue, because of my newly acquired mouse (yesterday). Have also tried the LTS HWE xorg and kernel (4.10) but to no effect. Now I've downgraded again to the 4.4 stable kernel. But as the bugreporter in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1704430 says, may the mainline kernel 4.13.0-041300rc1-generic fix the problem. Nevermind it worked if I remapped the mouse with xinput. I discovered that the middle button actually was recognized, but it wasn't showing as button 2 as expected but 6. 1. The command "xev | grep button", gave me the button 6 if I clicked in the xev window with the middle button. Then I had to remap the mouse buttons from 6 to 2 (2 is the middle button): 2. The command "xinput get-button-map 8" was giving me my buttons "1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24" Then I remapped them: 3. "xinput set-button-map 8 1 2 3 4 5 2 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24", the sequence remapped my sixth button to number 2, the middle click was after that working. [Bug 1576388] [NEW] Flash drives refuse to open in Nautilus after a while
Public bug reported: I'm on Ubuntu 16.04, stable install. I'm trying to open USB flash drives and they are at first showing up as before on the Unitylauncher and a Nautilus window open automatically with the drives content. If I unmount the drive (eject it) and tries to mount another drive (or the same) the flash drive for the most part starting with an open Nautilus window again. If I unmount and tries to mount another drive again and again then after a while it failes and no Nautilus window is showing. It can work a few times but not for a particularly long time. The drive is mounted though but Nautilus failes to open it. And Nautilus on the launcher is not working either, if I click on 'Files', thus Nautilus in Unitylauncher, it is of course also failing. This is very annoying, knowing that it's tomorrow gold release comes out. I have rebooted or started the computer four times and for one of them the swap has being activated. The other not. I know that my version (21/4 daily ISO) is beta but it's nearly finished. How can i activate swap without disable cryptswap? Trying to enable swap with the command sudo swapon /dev/mapper/cryptswap1 can't be done because the file /dev/mapper/cryptswap1 doesn't exist if the swap hasn't been activated at first. Attach some logs. Lagging here too. Using GeForce 7600 GS. This driver (295.49) doesn't freeze the machine which 295.40 did, but Unity3D is slow and the computer lagging much and swaps (especially using Firefox). Unity3D is not (in my view) as it is now, at least on my machine, usable for highend work. I'm now using Xubuntu. The 295.49 driver was working a long time and i was thinking that the problem with freezing was solved, and then all of a sudden the computer screen freezes again. All in Unity 3D. I think i have something like this bug on my system. When i was running the Nouveau driver (now i have the Nvidia prorietary driver installed) the system was booting correct but i don't saw the plymouth splash screen. It was showing a short time (as a purple background, no ubuntu text) popping at the beginning of system boot, but then immediately turned the screen off (no error messages at all) and the boot continued with the screen turned off. The computer booted ok though and the screen turned on again opening lightdm, but no plymouth splash before. At shutdown the splash is showing ok. With Nividia prorietary driver all is as it should be. Ok, both boot and shutdown. System is 12.04 and graphic card GeForce 7600 GS. With commandline option 'plymouth:force-drm' in /etc/default/grub file the splash screen comes up short after the initial purple popup. I think it's fixed on my machine with GeForce 7600 GS and driver 295.49. I've disabled some autostarted applets and other running services that i not use that take up memory. It's rather disturbing anyhow. Now again, seems to happen from time to time; the driver 295.49 is again very unstable on my GeForce 7600 GS, and it completely freeze my machine again now, AARGH. This driver is not usable, it can be stable for a long time then just freeze the whole desktop. There is nothing to do than hard reset the PC. Using the driver with xubuntu now, thinking of removing it and falling down to default Nouveau driver. The pitfall there is that the video/movie quality in videoplayers, flash etc. is much more poor. I also seems to be affected by this. I don't know though if adding GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT=1 or 0 to /etc/default/grub will fix it. Every now and then (not always) grub menu shows up when booting. Which it shouldn't do, I haven't any other os installed on the computer. No boot failure has happened neither so I couldn't think of grub menu appearing because of that. I'm using Ubuntu stock 20.04. Is there some problem with grub which could lead to this behavior? No it unfortunately did not work. With the new HWE kernel Ubuntu 5.11.0-27.29~20.04.1-generic (same as above?). The failing lines are at two places in the log.
