[Bug 180658] Re: acpi does not report correct temperature on Intel Pentium 4 CPU

2008-11-17 Thread panos
Same for me. Kubuntu 8.04, 2.6.24-21-generic. acpi shows constant
temperature of 16 C, which causes thermal shutdows on heavy cpu loads.
Tested the Intrepid live cd without success.

[Bug 213818] Re: thinkpad CPU overheat ubuntu hardy 8.04

2008-11-22 Thread panos
Same issue for me, Kubuntu 8.04 on a HP nx8220. I suffer from thermal
shutdowns due to heavy cpu loads. On several occasions (while running
cpu intensive apps) I also have nearly 90% cpu load from kacpid and
acpid_notify (there is another bug report elsewhere).

My cpu temperature is NOT updated (acpi displays constant 16 C, which is
of course ridiculous), and the fan is not spinning when cpu temp rises.
The problem appeared suddenly, I never had any issues with Hardy.
Booting into the Intrepid live cd made no difference. However, the
problem disappears when I boot with acpi=off. Hence, some acpi or
kernel bug makes ubuntu with acpi unusable, at least for me.

[Bug 409446] Re: package manager

2009-08-06 Thread panos
Dear Kamon and Kamus 1662

Thank you for your help. My English is terrible I have tried the
command and it doesn't work for me. Any more suggestions as I am not
good with the terminal command. The problem happened when I had the
latest up-date and everything is working alright except the synaptic
package manager.

Thank you very much for your help my wife is typing this as I say my
english is not very good. By the way I have run the Unbuntu for over
two and half years.

[Bug 139337] Re: after upgrading from feisty to gutsy, /dev/mapper no longer contains my LVM volume group

2007-11-08 Thread panos
I ran into exact the same problem when I tried to set up a ext3 partition for
LVM. I have no idea what evms is, but the workaround is found in the lvm HOWTO,
section 7.2 (http://tldp.org/HOWTO/LVM-HOWTO/initscriptdebian.html).
Installing the init script solved the problem for me. However, I am asking
myself why this * script is not provided by the lvm2 package, saving me
some hours of my time ...

I solve it by change 'Download from:' from 'Main Server' to 'Server from United

[Bug 675566] Re: upgrade to the latest 1.0.0a with its security fixes

2010-11-19 Thread panos
Just to let everyone know, a security bug has been found in openssl :

(copying from here : http://marc.info/?l=openssl-
announce&m=128992699401945&w=2)

"All versions of OpenSSL supporting TLS extensions contain this
vulnerability including OpenSSL 0.9.8f through 0.9.8o, 1.0.0, 1.0.0a
releases."

This is fixed (again copying from the above):
"Users of all OpenSSL 0.9.8 releases from 0.9.8f through 0.9.8o should update
to the OpenSSL 0.9.8p release which contains a patch to correct this issue.

Users of OpenSSL 1.0.0 and 1.0.0a should update to the OpenSSL 1.0.0b release
which contains a patch to correct this issue."

You can find more information about releases 0.9.8p and 1.0.0b here :
http://marc.info/?l=openssl-announce&r=1&b=201011&w=2

So i believe this report should be updated to reflect the above and
request openssl 1.0.0b to be included in the latest ubuntu repository
(and maybe consider updating the other related openssl reports in
launchpad concerning 0.9.8 versions)

[Bug 2054878] [NEW] fingerprint device disconnected

2024-02-25 Thread panOS
Public bug reported:

fprintd version: 1.94.2-2
Ubuntu release from system monitor 45.0.2

From settings when I try to enable fingerprint login, i check it, select right
index finger and then I get fingerprint device disconnected.

Sometimes after restart I bupass this, and put my finger but when I
leave it and reputing it to another angle i get error Failed to claim
fingerprint device ElanTech Fingerprint Sensor: the device is already
claimed by another process

I checked the Debian forum about this and I saw that my fingerprint
sensor is supported by fprintd.

2007-03-20 Thread Panos Veltsistas
Thank you very much fr your interest in my case. I finally had no
problem installing Linux: I rebooted the PC and started installing the
OS as if there had been no trouble before. Linux was successfully
installed in my computer and the partition of my disk with Windows was
not harmed at all. I cannot explain it, but it didn't cause me any
serious problems. Thanks in any case.

[Bug 1869612] [NEW] libmpi.so link is missing

2020-03-29 Thread Panos Asproulis
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 20.04 package libopenmpi3 does not create the link:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libmpi.so

which should point to file:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libmpi.so.40

as it should. As a result a compilation using one of the OpenMPI
compilers such as mpicc fails during linking because the flag "-lmpi"
cannot locate the libmpi.so file.

[Bug 1869635] [NEW] the menu "Dash to Dock Settings" is visible

2020-03-29 Thread Panos Asproulis
Public bug reported:

When the user performs a right-button mouse click on the "Show
Applications" button of the Ubuntu Dock then a "Dash to Dock Settings"
menu option appears as shown in the attached image.

Normally, this menu option is only available on the original "Dash to
Dock" GNOME shell extension used as the basis for the Ubuntu Dock and it
should not be visible or functional on the Ubuntu Dock itself.

[Bug 1869637] [NEW] hidden windows appear as opened after clicking the "Show Applications" button twice

2020-03-29 Thread Panos Asproulis
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce this problem:

1. Click on the Ubuntu Dock to open any application e.g. Nautilus.
2. A window with the contents of this application appears.
3. Click the (-) hide button of the window. The window hides from the desktop.
4. Click the "Show Applications" button of the Ubuntu Dock.
5. After the list of available applications appears click the same button
again. The system returns back to the desktop view.
6. Notice that the previously hidden window now appears as open on the desktop.
However, it is only rendered and it is not functional. One cannot click on this
window to hide it again, move it to another location or use the application
associated with it. The only way to return to normal is to click the icon of
this application on the Ubuntu Dock and in this case the window opens properly
i.e. it is rendered again but this time it can be used.

Expected behaviour:

After step (5) one should return to the desktop with the window of the
opened application still hidden.

Note that if several applications have been opened and their windows
hidden then after operation (5) all previously hidden windows are now
rendered on the desktop but they are not functional, as described above.

[Bug 1866974] Re: The Diffie-Hellman prime sent by the server is not acceptable

2020-03-30 Thread Panos Asproulis
This issue is not coming from Evolution itself. It also manifests itself
when attempting to create an Exchange account using the Settings ->
Online Accounts -> Add an account -> Microsoft Exchange option. In this
case, if the mail server returns a small Diffie-Hellman prime (e.g. 1024
bytes) the handshake fails and the error message reported is:

Error Connecting to Microsoft Exchange server:
Code:6 -- Unexpected response from server

I have encountered the same problem in Fedora some time ago and in this
case the solution was to modify the system wide security level to legacy
by using the following command after installing the crypto-policies
package:

update-crypto-policies --set LEGACY

see: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1549242

However, in the case of Ubuntu 20.04 this does not resolve the problem.

[Bug 1869612] Re: libmpi.so link is missing

2020-03-31 Thread Panos Asproulis
I have libopenmpi-dev installed. This package does not resolve this
issue. As a matter of fact this package does not even install the
openmpi libraries. These are installed by the libopenmpi3 package I
mentioned before. It is this package which should create the missing
link so that both compilations and runs can be done.

[Bug 1872502] [NEW] There is no installable python package on Focal

2020-04-13 Thread Panos Asproulis
Public bug reported:

There is no installable "python" package on Focal. An attempt to install
it produces the following error:

$ sudo apt install python
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package python is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
  python2-minimal:i386 python2:i386 python2-minimal python2 python-is-python2
2to3 python-is-python3

E: Package 'python' has no installation candidate

This breaks the installation of many other software packages which have
the "python" package as a dependency.

I have the same problem with my company's email which uses the Rackspace
Outlook 2016 Exchange service. Rackspace told me that they cannot change
the DH key to a value higher than 1024 bits (which I don't believe) and
they suggested that instead the company upgrades to some Office 365
service which supports a higher DH key size. So, at this moment I cannot
use my company's Exchange E-mail from Evolution as I could in the past.

[Bug 1754328] [NEW] Ubuntu 17.10.1 fails to reboot after installation is complete

2018-03-08 Thread Panos Georgiadis
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:
--
1. Download the ISO for 17.10.1 from the official website
2. Create a virtual-machine with qemu and load the ISO to start the installation

Note: do a generic installation without changing any parameters (e.g. do
not download updates during the installation) but use everything in
default.

3. When the installation is complete, it will ask you to remove the
media and press ENTER.

Expected Behavior:
--
The system should reboot without any problems.

Actual Behavior:

The following things are happenings:

1. It shows blank screen and stays there forever
2. It throws WATCHDOG error and stays there forever:

> systemd-journald[]: failed to send WATCHDOG=1 notification message:
Transport endpoint is not connected

3. Sometimes it works and everything is fine

Workaround:
---
The workaround for [1][2] is to hard-reset the qemu VM.

It looks like a race condition, that when it gets triggered it hits a
bug related to watchdog and reboot of the system. Note, that this bug is
**not** reproducable if you click "Try Ubuntu" at the 'welcome' screen
of the 17.10.1 ISO media. You have to actually install it and make it to
the last step of the installation, which is the restart of the system.

2018-03-08 Thread Panos Georgiadis
The bug is against the Ubuntu installer. I don't know what is the
package of this component and I cannot get a console (I'e tried all
tty's but no luck). Given that installation issues are quite common, I
would expect you to link bugs against 'components' instead of 'source
packages'.

always possible, sometimes I have to hard reboot.

Hello Felipe.
I tried your command while i had oped Klavaro and while not. Nothing at all.
In menu of Klavaro i cannot set up greek language (it doesn't have that option).
Although it mixes greek and english letters!!!
Any help would be appreciate

[Bug 1097485] Re: Setup problems on HP Pavilion P6750be

2013-01-11 Thread Panos R
Thank you for your time as well. As I am beginner with Linux and subsequently
have formatted the drive do you should I try again to install Ubuntu 12.10?
Currently I understand that I have to install, and once the installation halts
to reboot and give the commands you are requesting.
And if I may also ask where do I find the logs and with what filenames they are?

[Bug 872286] [NEW] Safely remove external USB drive in nautilus causes screen to freeze and system auto-reboot

2011-10-11 Thread Panos Asimakopoulos
Public bug reported:

Plug in external USB disk (single NTFS partition) --> go to nautilus -->
right click on volume name under 'Devices' section --> left click safely
remove drive. Screen freezes and system restarts after a few seconds.
Reproduced almost every time.

In two occasions the system switched to terminal mode reporting "Kernel
panic - not syncing: fatal exception in interrupt 3.0.0-12-generic...".
However, I haven't been able to reproduce since.

Using "umount /dev/sdb1" in terminal (where 'sdb1' the USB disk) does
not cause the reported problem. The specific external USB disk has been
used in Maverick and Natty without issues.

Using another external USB disk (flash-based) and testing with both ext4
and NTFS partitions could not reproduce the problem.

[Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql

2012-08-10 Thread Panos Asimakopoulos
I'd like to share my experience with this issue.

I'm also following the Flurdy tutorial for setting up postfix
(http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/), which used to work perfectly fine on
my Ubuntu 10.04 installation. However on a fresh 12.04 (AMD64)
installation with all recent upgrades I'm experiencing the issue
described in this bug report.

As was mentioned above, with the original setting of "sql_engine:
mysql", mail.log reports "SASL PLAIN authentication failed: no mechanism
available". So change this to: "sql_engine: sql"

Also with "sql_passw: ", mail.log reports "SASL PLAIN
authentication failed: generic failure". So change this to: "sql_passwd:
"

However I was still getting a "SASL LOGIN authentication failed:
authentication failure" in mail.log and a "PAM (smtp) illegal module
type: host=127.0.0.1" in auth.log. I found out that when I copy-pasted
the contents of /etc/pam.d/smtp from the Flurdy site I had accidentally
created 2 lines per entry in /etc/pam.d/smtp:

(2 lines per entry):
auth required pam_mysql.so user=mail passwd=aPASSWORD
host=127.0.0.1 db=maildb table=users usercolumn=id
passwdcolumn=crypt crypt=1
account sufficient pam_mysql.so user=mail passwd=aPASSWORD
host=127.0.0.1 db=maildb table=users usercolumn=id
passwdcolumn=crypt crypt=1

Which I corrected to:

(1 line per entry):
auth required pam_mysql.so user=mail passwd=aPASSWORD host=127.0.0.1 db=maildb
table=users usercolumn=id passwdcolumn=crypt crypt=1
account sufficient pam_mysql.so user=mail passwd=aPASSWORD host=127.0.0.1
db=maildb table=users usercolumn=id passwdcolumn=crypt crypt=1

After restarting /etc/init.d/saslauthd restart and /etc/init.d/postfix
restart everything worked as expected.

[Bug 1166124] Re: Ubuntu minimum system requirements needs to be updated

2013-04-09 Thread Panos Georgiadis
This is not a bug. Please learn what is Minimum and what is Recommended
Requirements.

Minimum requirements: This is the minimum hardware that anyone can
install Ubuntu, no matter the speed, experience, lag, or whatever. This
man wants just to install Ubuntu on his computer, nothing more.

Recommended Requirements: This is all about user experience and all you
talk about. If you want to "change" something this is the recommended
requirements, NOT the minimum ones.

[Bug 1166124] Re: Ubuntu minimum system requirements needs to be updated

2013-04-09 Thread Panos Georgiadis
Salih, I am member of Ubuntu BugSquad team; my role is to triage bugs,
meaning to change the status of any bug upon my experience.

No offense sir, but I think that your suggested minimum hardware
requirement ( 1000 GHz processor ) is out of range, because there is no
processor with 1 Terraherz currently available in any scientific super
computer laboratory. Strange thing, that 8 people have the same opinion
with you.

If you insist that, I would recommend you to present us some tests with
minimum system requirements and then we can discuss your query in
further detail. But just as it is, I can only see an unvalidated opinion
of an Ubuntu user. Again, make no mistake here, you may have right or
wrong, but this is not a bug report that can be triaged as Confirmed.
This is just your opinion.

If you can prove that Ubuntu Desktop installation fails, then I'd be
happy to triaged your bug as Confirmed.

[Bug 1103420]

2013-04-12 Thread Panos-v
Bug 44617 causes irreversible problems (undo doesn't work) when resizing
a group of shapes that use the "resize shape to fit text" option. While
Drawing is not the most used function in LibreOffice, a bug causing
irreversible damage to a document should be corrected in a stable
version.

[Bug 829086] Re: Artifacts in 3D with Sandy Bridge

2011-11-04 Thread Panos Asimakopoulos
I experience a similar problem on my i5-2410M. I currently have a
64-bit Oneiric installation, however the bug was also present in Natty.

I have tried the latest xorg-edgers (in Natty) and latest Oibaf drivers
(in Oneiric), without any luck. It seems to be an Ubuntu specific
problem since trying the latest stable OpenSUSE and Mageia live cds do
not reproduce the bug.

Indeed, the issue has been resolved. In Oneiric I had to install intel-
gpu-tools from git ("git clone
git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/xorg/app/intel-gpu-tools") and then
use "sudo intel_reg_write 0x9404 0x1800".

[Bug 872286] Re: Safely remove external USB drive in nautilus causes screen to freeze and system auto-reboot

2011-10-19 Thread Panos Asimakopoulos
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected staging
