[Bug 127790] Re: Hardy, Intrepid Alpha 2+ take 30 seconds to start boot sequence on MacBook / Pro
I have five questions: 1. Would the use of ELILO fully solve this problem? 2. Why doesn't the Ubuntu installation routine offer the use of ELILO? 3. I read somewhere that the main problem is that the notebook's EFI looks for a HFS partition first. Could HFS partitioning be implemented as an option during the update process? 4. Why is there hardly any progress on the various MacBook Pro related issues in launchpad? 5. [Bug 252683] [NEW] [Intrepid Alpha 3] Ubuntu might ruin fan on Acer TravelMate 6292 notebook
Public bug reported: Testing Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 3 on an Acer TravelMate 6292-602G25MN, I noticed that the fan is accelerating and decelerating about 15 times per minute. It turns to what probably is full speed when you start something like OpenOffice.org as the only program. When you just browse the web (using firefox), it accelerates and decelerates all the time, too. This even happens if you have turned everything on "always run full power" in GNOME's energy saving preferences. I suppose that the fan won't live long under these conditions. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pommed Testing with Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4. Manually changed System -> Preferences -> Keyboard to "Apple: MacBook / MacBook Pro (Intel)", but no change. [Bug 261780] [NEW] MacBook Pro: No square brackets - wrong keyboard layout
Public bug reported: On a German PC keyboard, usually square brackets are produced as follows: AltGr + 8: squared bracket open AltGr + 9: squared bracket close. MacBooks Pros have no printed indication on the keys how to produce square brackets (AFAIK this goes for all models), so I assumed you could produce them the PC way. I assumed that the key second right to the space key (= the one left from the LeftArrow key - you can see this nicely on http://www.oliverherrmann.com/stuff/mbp/MBP02.jpg) would have the function of the "AltGr" key you know from PCs. [Bug 262550] Re: WARNING: Intrepid might burn down MacBook Pro
Point is that a lot of people here seem ready to give the information needed but information transfer to the actual project is low. And, yes, as long as Ubuntu claims: Ubuntu 'Just Works' We've done all the hard work for you. Once Ubuntu is installed, all the basics are in place so that your system will be immediately usable. I would expect basic operations to work, especially when it comes to programs that are part of every default Ubuntu installation. Why should I re-state the problem? No change one and a half years later, except that the error message has been shortened towards Error loading addressbook. This refers to Ubuntu 8.10 64-Bit and Evolution 2.24.1. Note that on Alpha and Beta versions of Ubuntu 8.10, this already worked. [Bug 383212] [NEW] xGPS manager (car navigation for the iPhone 3G) not available in Ubuntu 9.04
Public bug reported: AFAIK currently an app called xGPS is the only full scale car navigation system (including voice guide) for the iPhone 3G. It uses Google Maps and as far as I read somewhere it can also handle OpenStreetMaps. Problem is that by default it seems to work only on an offboard basis, i.e. you need a (probably preferably UMTS) reliable internet connection to navigate, which is not available everywhere and which can produce high roaming costs when you are abroad. xGPS Manager (http://xgps.xwaves.net/index.php/Downloads) is a desktop program which enables you to copy maps into your iPhone which would then enable you to navigate on standalone device basis, without an internet connection. xGPS Manager is already available for Linux (http://xgps.xwaves.net/download/xgpsmanager/xGPSManager-1.1.tar.gz). >From a legal point of view, would it be possible for you to package this software for Ubuntu 9.10? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: 3g car iphone navigation -- xGPS manager (car navigation for the iPhone 3G) not available in Ubuntu 9.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/383212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: A colleague of mine downloaded Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 for his "Asus EEE PC 4G Surf" (*.img file, downloadable from http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-netbook). He then put the image file on an USB stick using the usb-imagewriter package, as described on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromImgFiles#Ubuntu. usb-imagewriter put the image onto the stick and reported "Success". My colleague then booted Ubuntu Netbook Remix (UNR) from the above mentioned USB stick and then intended to perform the integrity test. There was the first bug: Even though UNR is made for notebooks without a CD/DVD drive and even though UNR is obviously meant to be installed from a USB stick, the "integrity test" item on the installtion start screen mentioned CD/DVD only, so there was no obviously right way of checking the USB stick for integrity. Secondly, my colleague performed the above mentioned CD/DVD test from the start screen (applying it to the USB stick). [Bug 372239] [NEW] Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04: VERY slow graphics on Asus EEE PC 4G (probably Intel 915GML)
Public bug reported: A colleague of mine installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix (UNR) on an Asus EEE PC 4G. There were some issues during the installation, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/372228. I don't know if this is related with the following bug. Ubuntu 8.04 had been running very smoothly on that system, whereas with UNR 9.04 it is hardly possibly to even use the mouse. When he tries to use the mouse, there is a constant jerking. Windows open in way like you would try to run a new GNOME system on a Pentium 90.
