Just wanted to confirm that I'm affected by this as well. I'm getting a black screen at startup whenever I enable the Nvidia driver (tried both 390 and 396). Still having the issue as today (18.04 final) with a GTX 1050 Ti (Asus Prime X299-Deluxe mobo). I've tried multiple approaches for 2 months and I'm still not able to install boot with the Nvidia drivers enabled.
