[Bug 309894] Re: baobab segfault on start after upgrade to 2.6.27.11

2009-01-13 Thread nowhere
Yes there is no crash report associated with the failure to start. I
just installed a fresh system on another machine and it's working fine
there. But still not working on my laptop. Something during the update
that updated the kernel caused the failure not necessarily the kernel
itself.

Please point me to instructions on how to do a stack trace so I can help
out.

Thanks!
Eric

[Bug 577637] [NEW] Burning ISO DVD image hangs drive

2010-05-08 Thread nowhere
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

When right clicking and writing a DVD image, the burn proceeds normally
but once complete, the disk type changes from blank to a movie and half
a dozen dialogs pop up. One complains it can't eject the blank disk
(which isn't blank anymore). One asks what to do with the movie disk.
One says the burning is done and what to do next. One was a bit later
claiming to be finishing writing data to the dvd. None of the eject
buttons work except the physical one on the drive but when I eject
there, the movie disk icon is still left on the desktop, umount is still
trying to unmount it. I can put a new blank disk in and now both the
blank and the old movie are on the desktop as mounted but I can't burn
as brasero doesn't get past the preparing image phase.

Here's the stuck umount. I cannot kill it even as root with -9
r...@ubuntu:~# ps -elf|grep umount
4 D root 6485 3220 0 80 0 - 2069 bdi_sc 00:25 ?00:00:00

[Bug 575278] Re: gedit won't exit and consumes 100% CPU

2010-05-09 Thread nowhere
I confirm that disabling ALL plugins did NOT stop the runaway problem.
However, completely removing the gedit-plugins package did stop the
problem from occuring. When quitting gedit with all plugins disabled and
the gedit-plugins package removed, the CPU usage spikes briefly to 200%
on my system then falls off when gedit exits.

Reinstalling the gedit-plugins package did NOT bring the problem back
alone, even tho it enables some plugins by default upon install.
Snippets is fine too. I'll have to go down the list of plugins to find
the offending one...

I appreciate the hard work any community software builder does but I have to
point out that the world is screaming for 64bit support. You cannot even buy
a processor that doesn't support it and almost every system I was shopping
for this last week came with 4GB+ RAM and windows 7 64bit was a free option.

Wrong place I know but really. Alienate the whole 64bit community? Maybe
everyone's different but I have no problem running a 64bit ubuntu vbox to
test builds of my software

Or you can wait a short time, while we who ARE carrying on fully test the
patch and then the package maintainers build and push an update for
everyone. Then you can just install it or update it as normal...

[Bug 541603] [NEW] Time to charge increases instead of decreases for ultrabay battery

2010-03-18 Thread nowhere
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

When an ultrabay battery is inserted, a reasonable time estimate is
given to completely charge the battery. As time goes on, the time left
to charge the battery increases, not decreases. Example, the battery was
inserted with 0.0% and had 1.5 hours to charge. The battery is now at
49% with 11 hours left to charge. The device information page also
lists the Charge rate, which for this case started at 25W but now is
reporting 1.4W, which is ultimately the source of the problem.

The capacity of this battery is at 100% (30.3Wh vs. design of 29.2Wh).
The system is a Lenovo T61.

[Bug 471688] [NEW] network-manager panel icon does not show connected

2009-11-02 Thread nowhere
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

After a very long wait, the network-manager finally found the wireless
site it connects to often. The spinner never spun during connecting. The
notification system popped up a notification that the connection was
established but the icon had never changed appearance once during the
process. The was directly following a cold boot.

This is not repeatable and normally the icon spins while connecting then
shows signal strength once connected.

[Bug 23835] Re: lilo + lvm2 don't work following upgrade to breezy

2006-06-12 Thread Nowhere Man
I don't think it has anything to do with a newer lilo. I had sometimes problems
with my system that forced me to rerun lilo. I have all my partitions except
the swap under LVM, including / (and no specific partition for /boot).
It worked perfectly for ages, and now I get the same error:

bateleur:~# lilo
Warning: '/proc/partitions' does not match '/dev' directory structure.
Name change: '/dev/dm-8' -> '/dev/mapper/gobelet-backup'
device-mapper: table ioctl failed: No such device or address
Fatal: device-mapper: dm_task_run(DM_DEVICE_TABLE) failed

But I run lilo from etch (package version 1:22.6.1-7), which has entered
the archive for nearly 9 months (see
http://packages.qa.debian.org/l/lilo.html).
