[Bug 242373] [NEW] artsd processes number ( artsd going crazy)

2008-06-23 Thread nerling
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libarts1c2a

1) Release:8.04

Affected Package:
2) libarts1c2a 1.5.9-0ubuntu2
#installed from kubuntu-8.04.1 netinstall:
kde-systemsettings 0.0svn20070312-0ubuntu5
kdebase-bin 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu7.2
kdebase-bin-kde34:3.5.9-0ubuntu7.2
kdebase-data4:3.5.9-0ubuntu7.2
kdebase-kio-plugins 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu7.2
kdelibs-data4:3.5.9-0ubuntu7.1
kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu7.1
kdemultimedia-kio-plugins 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu2
kdesktop4:3.5.9-0ubuntu7.2

3) I expected the sound to work.
4) 473 /usr/bin/artsd (fore the reboot 1457) processes running, cannot kill
them.

After I uninstalled pulseaudio (not working, anyway), I noted 1457 artsd
processes running, could not kill them.
I did reboot the machine, loged into KDE, became the knotify error message:
"During the previous startup, KNotify crashed while instantiating KNotify. Do
you want to try again or disable aRts sound output?"(sic)
and since then the number of artsd processes are raising up to 473 ( now as
I'm writing, they are 530! ).

All in all I'm pretty disappoited by Hardy!
I 'grow and rise' using GNU/Linux, I was really happy from Conectiva 3.1, over
Potato up to Feisty. I work with it, productive, since I can think!

I will downgrade to Feity now, I need a stable OS and 'Software
Framework' and I'm not seeing Hardy as LTS-fit by now.

[Bug 430654] Re: udev 147 outputs warnings about default rules

2009-09-24 Thread nerling
Kubuntu Karmic x64,
I'm experimenting the same issue as ilna describes:
After a upgrade KDE starts, but mouse and keyboard(s) are not usable.
I tried with gdm, but it does not start. (upstart)
I see that no upstart service will be started on boot in my machine. Maybe this
is the whole problem!
udev is not starting, too! no pts, no psaux! no tty!

The last upgrade (as from Thu Sep 24 10:33:11 2009 ) does not fix the
issue.

Well, I'm not grounching, since it is alpha software, but I was really
loving to use Karmic.

2009-08-28 Thread nerling
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

udev (through blkid) fails to identify crypt_LUKS data partition.
It creates no /dev/disk/by-uuid/ link.

The partition was created with cryptsetup on hardy ( cryptsetup 1.0.5 ).
The partition can be mapped and mounted through cryptsetup on karmic(
cryptsetup 1.0.6 ). It is not corrupted.

[Bug 420589] Re: udev/blkid fail to identify crypt_LUKS data partition

2009-08-28 Thread nerling
Yes, I know the bug report #362315, I was reading it and I'm not amused!

The difference is: If my partition were only swap, I would say nothing!
But: This partition keeps my most important files!

I know, I have a backup, but I don't want to restore 32G Data, capisch?

So now: It is not an question if blkid is buggy.
It is an affirmative!

I would be glad to help, however.

Best Regards

[Bug 684127] [NEW] virsh adds automatically type='raw' to a disk session

2010-12-02 Thread nerling
Public bug reported:

Please report to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=659262 for more
information.
This Bug has a patch as in:
http://www.redhat.com/archives/libvir-list/2010-December/msg00103.html

Description of problem:
If you do not specify the type of the disk in the subelement of domain
xml, virsh automatically inserts type raw, without testing for the real type of
the image.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
virsh 0.8.3
( Debian-backports 0.8.3-4~bpo50+1 )

How reproducible:
Everytime

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
Create a domain from a xml which disks have no element:
(SNIP /tmp/one-7050.xml)

(SNIP)
$ onevm create /tmp/one-7035.xml
2.
Dump the xml of the domain:
$ onevm dumpxml one-7035
(SNIP)

(SNIP)

Actual results:

AND domain cannot boot from the disk
Expected results:
 # or nothing at all
AND domain would boot as a charm.
Additional info:
This would be not a problem by manual generation of the domain xml file, since
we could simply insert it.
The problem will treat bad if we have a VMM generating this xml automatically..
as it is our fall, as we are using opennebula for this.

[Bug 656173] Re: libvirt no longer probes chained backing stores

2010-12-02 Thread nerling
I can see already a Problem with the opennebula package.
It will no longer work, since it does not generate this information on the
domain xmls - it would not have this information anyway - else if it would
probe for the data type of the image, this - we are being told - being a
security issue.
@Jamie: I think the OS *in the guest* should never ever have access to the file
of the image!
It should only have access to the virtualized disks, not to the file itself,
where the backingstore informations are.
If it is now so, then the issue is rooted in qemu/kvm and not in libvirt.

No, I do not generate the definition of the vm by myself, I use opennebula
(version 2.0.1, but versions 1.2 or 1.4 would be affected, too)
Opennebula allows to define the format after the version 2.0.1-1, so it is no
longe a big concern.
I had configured allow_disk_format_probing in the hosts /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf,
since I have read the supposicions of security vulnerability and could not
agree with it.

I think we can close this as bug, but let it open as sugestion.

Thank you very much and best regards.
