[Bug 154549] Re: wi-fi connection goes down - reboot is required
I've lived a bit longer with this bug. Here's what I've observed. Most important: I guess it's NetworkManager. It has just happened to me and I noticed that System Monitor panel applet indicates that 50% CPU is used (I have Core 2 Duo). Weird thing though: at the same time top showed that NetworkManager used 100% cpu... (but that's another issue I guess). Anyways, I killed NM, started it again and networking works... . This bug happens few times a day (I'd say 3-5x / 24h). I still can't really tell what behavior causes that. -- wi-fi connection goes down - reboot is required https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154549 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 154549] Re: wi-fi connection goes down - reboot is required
2 days later. It happened a few more times. New observations: I can observe three different behaviors when the situation occurs: * as noted above - I kill & start NetworkManager and everything's fine. Actually it only happened once. * more frequent - the whole OS becomes unstable - I can use running programs, but can't run gnome-terminal. Even sudo doesn't work - I switched to CLI (via CTRL+ALT+F1). when I use sudo, it just goes to the new line and cursor blinks... and I can't do anything in that console. * also happened a few times - I can kill & start NetworkManager and everything else seems to be fine, except it keeps connecting for ever. I ran sudo NetworkManager --no-daemon and saved the output (attached to this message). Also, for the whole day today NM showed only one access point (it always shows 5-11 different APs). ** Attachment added: "output of sudo NetworkManager --no-daemon" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10158368/NetworkManager--no-daemon -- wi-fi connection goes down - reboot is required https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154549 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 154549] wi-fi connection goes down - reboot is required
Public bug reported: Sometimes (twice in the last 4 hours) wi-fi connection goes down and doesn't want to reconnect. When it happens: * nm-applet asks me for WPA password and tries to connect for a very long time. * nm-applet behaves strangely - I can't select another network. * /etc/init.d/networking doesn't help and executes _really_ quickly (0.x second), producing just one line. * when I restart gnome, nm-applet doesn't show wi-fi hotspots at all. * reboot helps. At the same time, my girlfriends windows-based laptop is connected without any problems. I can't reproduce the bug. I don't know what I can do to troubleshoot this - please tell me and I'll do that next time this thing happens. I'm using gutsy (fresh install) since this morning on Dell Inspiron 1720. [Bug 134515] Re: Intel 3945ABG has one connection attempt, after that a reload of the ipw3945 module is needed for the interface to work at all. Connections and connecting in itself is unreliable
Dell 1720 - a similar or exactly the same problem. I submitted the bug report almost a month ago - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /linux-source-2.6.22/+bug/154549 . You guys might consider yourselves lucky - pair these problems with a router that goes down ever more often and you have a really frustrating situation - you never know which thing died. It's been 2 months since I moved to this house and reported the problem to the landlord :/ I'll add just one thing that I noticed lately and might be relevant: my router likes to die mainly in two usage scenarios: p2p and skype... what is interesting is that my girlfriend's skype (on Windows) doesn't cause problems. Lastest stable (I think it's 1.4) on my computer doesn't do any harm either. Skype beta 2.0.0.13 kills the router every 5-10 minutes. Could it be something related to Skype using UDP? P2P case: all torrent clients I've tried (utorrent on girlfriend's windows, deluge and azureus on my gutsy) manage to kill it. But azureus seems to do it like a pro - Right after a program starts, when I'm connected to 2 peers (there aren't many more in the swarm) or... when I stop downloading a torrent (meaning "I disconnect many connections at once). Anyways, I've seen 3 similar bug reports so far (Andy Leeman's being the third one), quite a few people confirming and not a single word from devs :/ Has anyone had any luck with other distros? [Bug 3868] Re: Emptying trash should really empty trash
This "bug" is still here... another example, which is actually quite common scenario for me. I create some files and directories, say it's /var/www/cake . Many web apps require a directory that's writable by a web server. In this case, it's /var/www/cake/app/tmp . Files created by apache belong to www-data :www-data . You can move /var/www/cake to trash, but then you can't erase /var/www/cake/app/tmp from it. I've noticed that right after I installed gutsy and kinda know how it "works" now. It doesn't reset to 100%, it resets to the value of "set display brightness to" slider in "on ac power" (even if currently running on battery!) tab of Power Management Preferences applet. It always happens after a few minutes from setting it with a "Fn+brightness" key. One thing that always trigges this is opening Power Management Preferences applet. [Bug 102159] [need-packaging] kadu
Public bug reported: This is a request to include a package(s) in Universe repository. I'm reporting this bug as describet @ https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives /ubuntu-devel/2007-March/023445.html What is that? Kadu is an instant messaging client handling Gadu-Gadu (GG) protocol. GG is by far the most common IM protocol in Poland - virtually everyone uses it. Kadu is probably the most popular client that runs on Linux. It hasn't been included in any Debian/Ubuntu repositories before because there were some licensing problems with its icons set. I looked around and found https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/550350 "pulseaudio -k && pulseaudio" fixes the problem for me. Michalxo (#550350 bug reporter) claims the problem has been fixed in livecd from 29.03.2010. In my "sound preferences" "hardware" tab I can see my sound card. It is selected and "analog stereo duplex" profile is selected in settings (just as in karmic). However, "input" and "output" tabs don't have a correct content. In the output tab, there's only "Dummy Output, Stereo" option. [Bug 436699] Re: gives too little permissions to extracted files by default
I've had some suspicions and tested them on my wive's computer. File roller gave _correct_ permissions to files. I've had Ubuntu on my lappy from day one (AFAIR I got it after Feisty came out) and must have messed something up on the way. Please feel free to re-assess whether this ticket still deserves dev's attention. -- gives too little permissions to extracted files by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/436699 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 436699] [NEW] file-roller gives too little permissions to extracted files by default
Public bug reported: Package: file-roller (or some lower-level package) This happens to me _a lot_. I get some archive from the web, extract it only to find out that file-roller didn't give "read" (and "execute" in case of directories) permision to "group" and "others". Typical scenario (just happened): I download some (compressed) javascript library to include it in my app. I use nautilus to extract its contents. I use the web browser to access those files and I get a "forbidden" code (because files are being accessed by the web server, which is not the owner of those files). Here's the story of one archive extracted by midnight commander and nautilus' file-roller: mus...@bobek:~/www/katarzynamucha/app/webroot/js$ ls -l colorbox-nautilus/ total 280 drwx-- 2 muszek muszek 4096 2009-09-25 17:33 colorbox -rw-r--r-- 1 muszek muszek 235313 2009-07-30 22:43 colorbox.ai drwx------ 2 muszek muszek 4096 2009-09-25 17:33 content drwx-- 3 muszek muszek 4096 2009-09-25 17:33 example1 drwx-- 3 muszek muszek 4096 2009-09-25 17:33 example2 drwx-- 3 muszek muszek 4096 2009-09-25 17:33 example3 drwx-- 3 muszek muszek 4096 2009-09-25 17:33 example4 drwx-- 3 muszek muszek 4096 2009-09-25 17:33 example5 -rw-r--r-- 1 muszek muszek 14260 2009-09-16 18:49 README mus...@bobek:~/www/katarzynamucha/app/webroot/js$ ls -l colorbox-mc total 280 drwxr-xr-x 2 muszek muszek 4096 2009-09-16 17:49 colorbox -rw-r--r-- 1 muszek muszek 235313 2009-07-30 21:43 colorbox.ai drwxr-xr-x 2 muszek muszek 4096 2009-09-16 17:52 content drwxr-xr-x 3 muszek muszek 4096 2009-09-16 17:52 example1 drwxr-xr-x 3 muszek muszek 4096 2009-08-17 09:00 example2 drwxr-xr-x 3 muszek muszek 4096 2009-09-16 02:01 example3 drwxr-xr-x 3 muszek muszek 4096 2009-09-16 17:10 example4 drwxr-xr-x 3 muszek muszek 4096 2009-08-17 09:00 example5 -rw-r--r-- 1 muszek muszek 14260 2009-09-16 17:49 README ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- file-roller gives too little permissions to extracted files by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/436699 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
