[Bug 390683] [NEW] Install progress report window shouldn't resize

2009-06-22 Thread Miquel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity-frontend-kde

It is a usability issue. The window size starts small (you can't even
read the win title), and as larger tasks begin to be displayed, the
window gets progressively bigger.

It happens in all Kubuntul last releases, including 9.10 Alpha 2
The progress window should have a fixed size
TO REPRODUCE:
- Start kubuntu live-cd
- Start hard disk installation
- Complete all steps and click Install
- A progress bar window pops up

[Bug 1747268] [NEW] No sound when connecting headphones or external speakers to my laptop [TravelMate P648-M, Intel Skylake HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2018-02-04 Thread Miquel
Public bug reported:

The sound works fine except when I connect either speakers or headphones
(stereo jack) to my laptop, then there is no sound. When I disconnect
them it sounds normal. I checked the alsamixer, no channel is muted. The
system doesn't seem to notice that I have plugged something in, since
the sound settings "output" does not change to "speakers" or similar (as
it did in my old computer).

[Bug 390683] Re: Install progress report window shouldn't resize

2009-06-24 Thread Miquel Torres
The same happens inside KPackagekit when doing an update. The progress
windows keeps resizing itself continually. It gets bigger or smaller
depending on the package it is updating. That leaves a very bad and
flaky impression.

Confirmed here. I must add that it eventually works :

Just fire up WLAssistant and connect. It will say connection error. Just
let it be. After a while you'll be connected. Weird.

I'm also concerned that this bug doesn't have a priority assigned yet.
It is a MAJOR bug for laptop people!

But I finally got it working on Feisty.

xorg.conf attached. The installed drivers are nvidia-glx-new

Can someone confirm that this xorg.conf works? it doesn't have any EDIC,
ESID hacks at all.

[Bug 40754] Re: hyundai b71a monitor screen resolution and instability

2007-05-07 Thread Miquel Torres
Andrew: the nv diver works perfectly on edgy and feisty. Resolutions all
the way up to 1280x1024. The problem is with the binary nvidia drivers
AND DVI output with the L70A TFT monitor. Using analog VGA output works.
Apparently somewhere a year and a half ago nvidia altered their EDIC
algorithms and it stopped working.

I have found a workaround at the German forums:
http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/63875/
Sadly the solution is for Edgy, and in feisty it doesn't work... again.

This is not a ubuntu-specific issue (maybe a debian issue though), but
we could maybe arrive at a solution somehow.

[Bug 40754] Hyundai L70A

2006-11-18 Thread Miquel Torres
I can confirm this bug, a show-stopper for those affected.

I have a Hyundai ImageQuest L70A TFT. Native resolution is 1280x1024.

In Dapper, the nv driver works (both with a Geforce4200Ti at first, then
upgraded to a Geforce6600GT), but the nvidia 3D driver doesn't. You get
a 1024x768 resolution. I tried hard to solve it with help in the forums,
deactivating ESID and such, but nothing worked. One can live without 3D
acceleration though.

I did a clean install of Edgy with xorg 7.1, and it got worse. Limited
to 1024x768 even using default nv driver (and already when booting from
the live CD). Running dpkg-reconfigure xserver-org didn't help in
Dapper, and in Edgy it shows a completely screwed layout.

I'm looking at the nvidia solution with modelines. But the exact VxH
sync specs of my old L70A are hard to come by.

I'll post if I find a solution. I just want to say that the nv driver
should always work, so this is a show stopper for me.

** Description changed:

whilst installing ubuntu 6.06 beta (april 20th version) my monitor goes
on and off randomly. once installed the max resolution is set at
1024x768 even though it supports 1280x1024. when I reconfigure x (after
updating system)and then restart x, the monitor issues a message stating
'video mode not supported.' this problem is not unique to ubuntu.
+
+ The resolution limit also happens with a Hyundai L70A and Edgy, no other
+ image problems though.

[Bug 1066585]

2012-10-22 Thread Miquel Martin
I've added screenshots of the confirmation requests I get for the
dreamhost certificate. I _do not know_ if this is the problem you are
all referring to.

My domain name is mail.miquelmartin.org and I'm using the default SSL
support from dreamhost, which means the certificate I get from them has
a CN of *.mail.dreamhost.com.

Naturally, mail.miquelmartin.org is not included in
*.mail.dreamhost.com, so I rightfully get a "Wrong Site" warning which I
have to confirm.

This is _not_ a bug, though. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong stuff.

[Bug 390683] Re: Install progress report window shouldn't resize

2011-02-07 Thread Miquel Torres
Hi,

well, obviously there have been a lot of changes since then in the
KPackagekit department. On my Maverick desktop the issue is gone, and
the update progress window doesn't dance around any more: it has a fixed
width.

I did not test the ubiquity installation, as that involves actually
starting to install Kubuntu, i.e. formatting a partition ;-)

So to conclude I would say that the issue is fixed, but some one should
test the live-cd installation to confirm it.

[Bug 57067] Re: UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode certain bytes

2010-11-01 Thread Miquel Martin
I stumbled upon Toby Smithe's problem (3 years after he did) :) It's not
a bug, but rather a sneaky configuration problem. Turns out the client,
by default, connects to the server using ascii mode...

I solved it with this:
http://bytes.com/topic/python/answers/630063-mysql-insert-unicode-problem

Short summart, check this:

mysql> SHOW VARIABLES LIKE "character_set%";
+--++
| Variable_name| Value |
+--++
| character_set_client | latin1 |
| character_set_connection | latin1 |
| character_set_database | latin1 |
| character_set_filesystem | binary |
| character_set_results| latin1 |
| character_set_server | latin1 |
| character_set_system | utf8 |
| character_sets_dir | /usr/share/mysql/charsets/ |
+--++
8 rows in set (0.00 sec)

That latin1 is the problem. To change it, when you instantiate your connection
with MySQLdb, make sure to attach the last two parameters here:
conn = MySQLdb.connect(host=host, user=user, passwd=passwd, db=db,
use_unicode = True, charset = "utf8")

That did it for me!

[Bug 177635] Re: [hardy] regression: 2.6.24 kernel oopses on suspend to ram

2009-02-18 Thread Miquel Serralta Riera
I get a kernel panic as well with ubuntu hardy kernel 2.6.24-21 and I
found out it's during it's unloading the module rtl8187 (the wifi
driver).

If I'm using another driver like r8187 it does to sleep perfectly, the
problem is the driver it's not working so well as rtl8187.

How can I manage to unload that module? Unloading manually before
suspend it does not work either.

[Bug 965028] Re: frontend crashed with SIGSEGV in localtime_r@plt()

2012-05-03 Thread Joan Miquel Torres Rigo
I had the same problem and I could fix it by manually installing
libssl1.0.0 from:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/libssl-dev

I needed to kill a process which were locking
/var/cache/debconf/config.dat before (I don't know if only killing this
process could be solved the problem).

-8<
joanmi@alpha:~$ sudo dpkg -i
/home/joanmi/Baixades/libssl1.0.0_1.0.1-4ubuntu3_i386.deb
dpkg: avís: s'està desactualitzant libssl1.0.0 de 1.0.1-4ubuntu5 a

root@alpha:/home/joanmi# dpkg -i
/home/joanmi/Baixades/libssl1.0.0_1.0.1-4ubuntu3_i386.deb

After that, I finally could execute 'apt-get dist-upgrade' and it exits
normally.
