[Bug 193921] [NEW] trackerd filling hard disk

2008-03-07 Thread mgilroy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tracker

I've noticed over the past few weeks that trackerd appeared to be
utilising all the CPU cycles on one processor. Nice level was set to 19
so I wasn't too concerned. I've now run out of disk space. I tracked it
down to massive files being created by trackerd.

Somehow it managed to completely fill the hard disk overnight when I was
out of the office and I'd freed up 12GB of space last night due to
running out of space yesterday. I'd initially assumed I just had filled
the disk.

The trackerd log appears to be limited in size and is copied below.
Possibly trackerd is just incapable of handling the VMware files? Either
way it should be limited in the size of file it can generate so as not
to fill the hard disk.

[Bug 1575123] Re: [Xubuntu 16.04] Display stays black if monitor is turned off/on

2016-10-13 Thread mgilroy
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1308105 ***

I've the same issue on Ubuntu 16.04 with Intel Skylake. PC connected to
the TV, we switch between the computer and TV regularly. Found I was
able to get the screen to start using xrandr as suggested above.

To get the screen to start when the TV switched to the PC HDMI/DP

sudo nano /etc/udev/rules.d/95-monitor-hotplug.rules

SUBSYSTEM=="drm", RUN+="/usr/local/bin/fix_tv_state.sh

sudo nano /usr/local/bin/fix_tv_state.sh

Add the following:

###
#!/bin/sh
#Fix TV state when HDMI link is lost.
#By Mario Limonciello
export XAUTHORITY=/home/username/.Xauthority

OUTPUT="DP2"
BAD_MODE="1280x720"
GOOD_MODE="1920x1080"

for MODE in $BAD_MODE $GOOD_MODE; do
 sleep 2
 DISPLAY=:0 xrandr --output $OUTPUT --mode $MODE
 sleep 2
done

#

Note replace username with your username. Change the output to whatever
you have e.g. HDMI2

sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/fix_tv_state.sh
sudo udevadm control --reload-rules

Change from HDMI back to TV, then back again. Screen comes on after a
couple of seconds. Change the sleep times to suit.
