Noting gets added to /var/log/Xorg.0.log while the screen turns black. My monitor is a Samsung 205BW. I tried this http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-648349.html (with some modifications due to the intel 2.5.1 driver i compiled) without any luck the other day. Hello, I am having the same trouble with Asus p5q-em. Im running gnome and I haven't found a way to stop the flickering. Has anyone found a solution that works with gnome? [Bug 303720] [NEW] Black flashing screen after Ubuntu 8.10 installation in 1680x1050 resolution using p5q-em motherboards built in graphics card(g45 chipset).
Public bug reported: Version: Ubuntu 8.10, new installation from live-cd. AMD64. 6gb ram. Built in graphics from motherboard p5q-em. Intels g45 chipset. Description: When I choose 1680x1050 I the screen turns black for a second and then back to normal again. This occurs and random time intervals over and over again. Some times it can pass a few minutes before it happens again. Very annoying. I seem to be able to provoke the black screen to appear by quickly moving the windows from side to side, works every time with firefox. I have tried to turn off effects of compiz, tried them at normal and extra but the result is the same. Drivers: The videodriver is the latest one for intel from the repository. I have also tried the latest driver 2.5.1. Same thing happens. But this installation is a 2d-only so compiz didn't want to run.
