[Bug 64621] System Crash when screensaver starts
Public bug reported: Running Edgy on a Dell Gx-150 Pentium III 733. When left until screen saver starts (not visible), system screen goes blank. Movement of mouse or keystrokes do not awaken the system. I have set the screen saver to never start but the timeout still occurrs and the system locks. If I cntl-alt-bkspace it returns to the sign-on screen as opposed to returning to the desktop. Dapper worked well on this system. Possibly an X.org or screen saver problem. ** Affects: portmap (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- System Crash when screensaver starts https://launchpad.net/bugs/64621 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks Erik, I set the screen saver to blank and had the same problem, however I ran apt-get update and it fixed it. I did post a follow up saying that on another Vaio (albeit a much newer/faster) LS21 that it does boot normally. A second burn did not fix the problem on the original Vaio W-30. Re: [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
Unfortunately I have neither of these packages installed and I still get the crash. I do not get the Zebra stripe thing, just a black screen that the only way I can seem to recover from is by pressing the power button. Fortunately the boot process is so much faster I have not thrown the whole thing out the window but it is getting old. I rarely use Firefox, but that does not seem to impact my crashing positively or negatively. I get crashes at sporadic times. Sometimes it is five minutes, sometimes it is two days. jeff On Wed, Jun 2, 2010 at 11:43 PM, MikeG0 wrote: > Just had a crash after hitting wunderground.com in chrome. Re: [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
No matter how far I back up to older kernels (within the Lucid family) I still get crashes of X that require power off and power back on. I have tried, after enabling the key combos, to cnt - alt - bcksp to restart X but that does not seem to do anything either. There does not appear to be any rhyme or reason. I always get a good start up. IT may be an hour or a whole day. I may click the address bar in Chromium or I may try to save in Gimp. Any action (always seem to be when I click the mouse for something) I can get a crash. Never a guarantee either way. I am working on a Dell SX260 mini desktop with I845. jeff On Thu, May 6, 2010 at 2:54 PM, hfzorman wrote: > Ok, after a few hours I let the computer alone and found it crashed, > constantly trying to turn on and off X.org.
