If the site is viewable from Windows using Firefox, why not from Linux.
That is the only reason this bug(?) was submitted.

[Bug 59983] Re: ndiswrapper in edgy broken

2006-11-25 Thread Herman
All, I had the same problem ("FATAL: Error inserting ndiswrapper
(/lib/modules/2.6.17-7-generic/kernel/drivers/net/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper.ko):
Invalid argument") when trying to install the SMC 2802 V2.

I installed ndiswrapper 1.8, but no success. Searched for hours on the
internet, but could not find the solution.

Then I found in /var/log/messages this line:
loadndisdriver: loadndisdriver: main(638): version 1.7 doesn't match driver
version 1.8
I guessed the 1.8 was ndiswrapper.
I was desperate enough to open loaddnsdriver (it's in /usr/sbin) in vi to see
what it did. I still have no idea, but I found the string 1.7 and changed it
into 1.8.
After this change I could run sudo modprobe ndiswrapper - and after adding my
ESSID and enabling the wireless network I am online!

[Bug 336418] Re: Please merge lm-sensors 3.1.1-3 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2009-10-06 Thread herman
Any chance this gets merged before karmic? Are all the "local changes"
available at http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/lm-sensors ? In the diff?
I have no idea what i would do really but i would be fun to try an fix
this if I know where to start! Maybe I could at least see if some
patches have been merged upstream already...

[Bug 1629917] [NEW] When using external monitor displays become unstable

2016-10-03 Thread Herman
Public bug reported:

I am using a HP Pavilion dv6 with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 Graphics.
After upgrading to ubuntu 16.04 LTS using Gallium 0.4 on AMD REDWOOD

external display through the VGA port. The system keeps cycling through
the display options using only one display, then both then extended and
then the other display. This happens every 10-15 seconds.

[Bug 1060435] Re: Evince duplicates a PDF page and omits the next page

2013-01-21 Thread Herman
This bug appeared on my system Ubuntu 12.10, 64 Bit after a recent
update of evince (hadn't been a problem before).

This problem doesn't appear for all pdfs, but many! Here is one where the bug
does appear:
http://arxiv.org/pdf/1205.6214v2

to reproduce it, open the document an scroll down towards the end of a
page, as this is reached, the display of the current page swaps into the
next such that the next page is doubled.

Please give this top priority, it is extremely annoying!

[Bug 260001] Re: ubiquity crashed with InstallStepError in configure_bootloader()

2008-11-21 Thread Herman Felderhof
I have made several installs in the same computer with the Intrepid 'Desktop'
CD.
I used one partition for / every time, with the Reiser File System.
Every time I allow GRUB to be installed to (hd0) everything works fine.
Every time I select to have GRUB installed to /dev/sda2, ( I want to chainload
it from my dedicated GRUB partition), I have this problem, (crash in ubiquity
at grub-install).

For me it's a minor nuisance but nothing difficult to deal with.
I just perform a direct boot from GRUB's Command Line Interface,
http://users.bigpond.net.au/hermanzone/p15.htm#First_method:_direct_kernel_boot.
Then when Intrepid is up and running run 'sudo update-grub' to make a menu.lst
automatically, and install GRUB to the boot sector of the partition.

I have read of one person not having an initrd.img, another way that can
be fixed using the 'Desktop' Live CD to chroot into the installation and
running 'mkinitramfs', as in this link,
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=979311&highlight=Cannot+boot
+Ibex-ubiquity+crash+during+install&page=2

[Bug 303190] Re: gvfs-fuse-deamon hangs (futex_wait)

2008-11-28 Thread Herman Jongkind
** Description changed:

gvfs-fuse deamon hangs. System monitor indicates futex_wait for the
waiting channel. I've no clue what this means. I'm using Ubuntu 8.10.
+
+ The Details:
+
+ a- I open gnome-system-monitor.
+ b- I browse to the "file systems" tab
+ c- the "gvfs-fuse-deamon" line indicates that "0 bytes" are
Total/Available/Free/Used in the /home/my_name/.gvfs Directory.
+ d- I expected that the "gvfs-fuse-deamon" line would indicate that the total
size of my home directory, and the amount of Free/Available/Used space (like in
8.04).
+ e- In the "processes" tab and the column "process name" the gvfs-fuse-deamon
is marked as "futex_wait" in the Waiting Channel.
+
+ I notice this behavior on 2 different systems (Dell Dimension 9150 and
+ Dell Inspiron 6400, both with Ubuntu 8.10). Another system (Ubuntu 8.04;
+ Dell Dimension 4700) does not have this behavior.

[Bug 303190] Re: gvfs-fuse-deamon hangs (futex_wait)

2008-11-29 Thread Herman Jongkind
I've no other issues.

Note that the behaviour in Hardy is different: there the "gvfs-fuse-
deamon" line in gnome-system-monitor indicates that the actual number of
bytes that are Total/Available/Free/Used in the /home/my_name/.gvfs
Directory.

[Bug 90681] Re: resolv.conf overwritten using VPN/PPP etc...

2009-05-07 Thread Tamas Herman
I have Jaunty (Netbook Remix) here with the same problem.

I use blueman instead of bluez to establish PAN networking.

I tried blueman in both of its modes
- blueman handles the interfaces
- let the network manager handle the interfaces

In both cases i experience the resolv.conf being overwritten regularly.

I also want to have my - maybe connection specific - search order present there.
(Its a lot of hassle to write FQDNs with the sme.looong.tld :)

[Bug 56311] Cannot read email sent via Outlook and "PGP Desktop"

2006-08-14 Thread Herman Munster
Public bug reported:

Sending a GPG encrypted email from Evolution 2.6.1 to an MS Outlook user
with PGP Desktop works correctly. They can read my mail perfectly.

If the Outlook user replies to my email, or sends a new email, I receive
a PGP encrypted message but Evolution doesn't recognise it correctly.

Instead the message body can be seen as an ASCII PGP message, and there
is an attachment which contains the encrypted message body. This
attachment can be saved and decrypted manually.

This

[Bug 65505] Xen + LVM

2006-10-11 Thread Herman Bos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xen-image-xen0-2.6.17-5-server-xen0

Same thing happens on debian (xen-linux-system-2.6.17-2-xen-686).

We used the xen0-2.6.17-5-server kernel with the xen-
hypervisor-3.0.3-pae-i386 (3.0.3-rc2) and the generic version with non-
pae hypervisor. The problem does not occur with the Ubuntu kernels in
main (non-xen).

The problem is that during a lot of disk i/o to a LVM partition, the
IOwait goes to 100% and gradually the load goes higher and higher until
the system is unusable.

We tested on different hardware configurations (two different mainboards
(intel and asus), different harddisks (maxtor and western digital) and
cpu's (celeron and pentium4). We have also tried removing all auxilorary
hardware (ethernet controller, e.g.), turning off hyperthreading etc.
with no effect.

[Bug 65505] Re: Xen + LVM

2006-10-11 Thread Herman Bos
A correction: It doesn't seem to be related with LVM. Without it the
same thing happens. We also tried different filesystems (JFS and EXT3),
it makes no difference.

So its not related with LVM but the problem persists.

[Bug 115633] Re: No boot flag on any partition - Failure to boot after install - Intel motherboards

The BIOS in these mainboards seems to check for the bootable flag. So
that would also explain the behavior Peter Adolphs explains.

2007-09-28 Thread Herman Jongkind
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 90258 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/90258

I had the same problem. A workaround that worked for me is that I
removed my old account from another admin account without removing my
home folder. After that I re-created my old account with a new USER ID
(it was 1000, I changed it to 1010).

[Bug 144631] Re: xen guest hangs after mounting filesystem

2007-11-27 Thread Herman Bos
I don't know if this will help since it sounds a bit different:

We had some Ubuntu booting problems before (run manual build xen on
centos). We fixed this by building a new initrd in the domU and copy
that initrd to dom0 and use it in the config file instead of the
supplied one.

you can build a new initrd with the following command:

example: `mkinitramfs -o /boot/initrd-2.6.18-xen-feisty.img 2.6.18-xen`

you don't have to start the domu, you can also build it with a chroot to the
filesystem.

maybe its worth a try.

[Bug 115633] Re: No boot flag on any partition - Failure to boot after install - Intel motherboards

2007-05-19 Thread Herman Bos
I can confirm this bug. I installed feisty with the i386 desktop cd and
couldn't boot afterwards. Setting the root partition with the boot flag
fixed it. I attached lspci just in case it might be useful. This problem
also exists with the lastest BIOS version for the Intel DG965WH.

Re: [Bug 56311] Re: Cannot read email sent via Outlook and "PGP Desktop"

2006-12-19 Thread Herman Munster
HI Sebastien

I'm unable to confirm as I have dropped Evolution altogether. It has
way too many crashes working with Exchange, and is too slow. I've
simplified and am now using POP3 with Thunderbird.

Regards
Scott
