[Bug 311982] Re: Array too big when printing large image

2010-06-06 Thread graemev
Might I suggest that ghostscript report an error to the effect "input is
invalid (64k limit)"
So that the various filters which MIGHT generate this bad input can be
highlighted
Rather than ghostscript appearing to be the cause of the problem. I've just
hit this on an up-to-date
Debian system ...where the print server runs.
(I'll now go trawling the Debain bug reports ...see if I have patch)

[Bug 463347] Re: devices not detected -- too many open files

2010-02-13 Thread graemev
OK I just booted and plugged in a USB mp3 player (USB Storage) it automounted
and opened a window in gnome.
I did this because I tried to do the same just before rebooting and I needed to
stop/start udev in order to get the /dev/sdc1 device created. The difference ?
.. before the reboot I had been running stress stress -d 100 -i 100 plus other
work to create load on my disk (I have a failing seagate 1.5Tb disk). So I have
a failing case followed by a working case:

[Bug 304889] Re: Does not use system proxy settings

2012-03-12 Thread graemev
Just Installed 11.10 and it's STILL using empathy ... and it STILL
doesn't work ... this must be 3 years since this 1st happened. At the
very least Ubuntu could switch back to Pidgin , which does work.

[Bug 654746] Re: brasero finishes with cancel/cancel option

2011-01-08 Thread graemev
I too see this, plus a number of other DVD related problems (which did
not occur with 10.04 on same hardware)

1: Please eject (as above) it just popped up while trying this

2: Inserting blank media opens a disc creator menu (looks like brasero) but if
I get it to write an existing iso (drag & drop + choose as an image) the
nautilus window vanishes and (I think all my nautilus windows die) repeat this
several times eventually it works ... seems to vary depending on whether the
entry is highlighted or not (may be wishful thinking)
opening brasero from menu always works ... but the the please eject at the end.

3: inserting dvds do not always pop up a window ... this may be due to
some options I disabled ... but may relate to the big (ie as a cause)

This feels more like udev than brasero ...

[Bug 988290] Re: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise

I also have a KVM but this does not need a 'switch' it happens if I
simply leave the screen to go to sleep.

[Bug 988290] Re: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise

2013-02-15 Thread graemev
I worked around this by un-installing the screen saver.

Given what appears to be the 'root cause' ... my guess would be the screen
saver it provoking a 'poll'
when it locks or unlocks the screen ... Given that this will probably happen
when a KVM is switched 'away'
for long periods , it would seem to be (at least) a BUG WRT the screen saver.

In a Lab situation a KVM would be the norm ... having to remove the screen
saver/locking on lab machines would make Ubuntu
unsuitable for this kind of use on security grounds.

Suggest yon don't close but reassign to screen saver.

Wow that linkedIn spam is nasty ... sneaks in like it's from LinkedIn.

Anyhow situation appears to be that Empathy state they cannot run in the
environment offered by Ubuntu, other IM clients can run. The bug should
move to Ubuntu distro ... "you are using an IM client which reports
it's not supported in the given environment" ..so either Ubuntu are
willing to fix the environment or they must choose a client which will
work?

Manually set http_proxy env var (as follows, NB address of proxy
anonymoused)

# http_proxy=xx.yy.zz.99:3128 apt-get install flashplugin-installer

This installs OK. Using synaptic / or missing out env setting above causes it

[Bug 584910] Re: libvirt can't add host definitions to DHCP without network restart

2011-02-21 Thread graemev
On the chance that it helps. I observed the following behavior:

in virsh

net-edit default
 ... add and entry(call this version 1)
net-destroy default
net-start default

/var/lib/libvirt/network/default.xml is changed but
/var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/default.hostfile is NOT

net-edit default
... edit the MAC address on an unrelated (junk) entry (call this version 2)
net-destroy default
net-start default

Now /var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/default.hostfile is changed , but it
reflects the file called version 1 above.

Seems to lag one version behind.

[Bug 504224] Re: NFS mounts at boot time prevent boot or print spurious errors

2010-08-31 Thread graemev
I'm a little concerned about the phrase "Only when the network is up"

I'm experiencing these hangs on my laptop (Acer Aspire One) when using
Wireless but not when wired . I assume this is because the network is
'up' but the wireless doe snot come if an until I start a GUI ?
(Actually I've not tracked down where the WiFi is started, but it seems
to be user specific ...thats why I'm assuming a user needs to be logged
on)
