[Bug 135779] "open with" menu does not respond

2007-08-30 Thread gerard67
Public bug reported:

After a while, even not doing anything, selecting an item in the "open with"
sub-menu does not launch the choosen program and nothing appends.
As far as I can tell, it does not seems to be Compiz related. I don't know how
to reproduce this behaviour for sure, it just appends when working in a gnome
user session ...

2007-09-02 Thread gerard67
Exactly same behaviour for me when editing a "alt" tag .. gedit process
consumes all CPU, eventually freezing the whole gnome session, just
mouse moves and crtl+alt+backspace allows to restart the session .. once
the session is re-opened, I have to kill the CPU-consuming gedit process

[Bug 137152] [Gutsy] nvidia + resume after suspend + gnome or X session progressivly irresponsive

2007-09-03 Thread gerard67
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-new

Resuming from suspend seems to goes OK, gnome session is restored and
applications loads in the same state they where before shutdown, but
when providing user interaction with the gnome destop, X-session or
gnome became progressively irresponsive and finaly only mouse movements
are possible. Ctrl+alt+backspace effectively kills the session, but once
relogged inside gnome, same problems occurs again. Hard reboot fixes the
issue.

steps of irresponsiveness :
- Icon on the destop (no contextual menu)
- Programms does not launch
- Windows closing inefeectivce
- ...
It all happends within minutes after a resume from Ram.

more details on my system :

uname -a : 2.6.22-10-generic #1 SMP Wed Aug 22 08:11:52 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

diagnostic..

[Bug 146335] Re: [hardy] regression: suspend fails to resume (with or without restricted drivers installed)

2008-03-14 Thread gerard67
Leann Ogasawara, thanks for your comment,
Resume bug also occurs on my laptop .. specs are :
Model : Dell Precision M70
VCard : Nvidia Quadro Fx GO with restricted drivers (nvidia_glx_new)
Ubuntu : Hardy Heron Beta 6, fresh install

I've set POST_VIDEO=false in /etc/default/acpi-support but the resume
part of the RAM suspend still fails when called with the FnKey... What
is strange is that when using " sync; echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_trace;
/etc/acpi/sleep.sh force " as root makes suspend/resume working fine..

In attachement, you may find results of "cat /proc/version_signature",
"dmesg", "lspci -vvnn" and a second "dmesg" done after the resume.

[Bug 146335] Re: [hardy] regression: suspend fails to resume (with or without restricted drivers installed)

2008-03-22 Thread gerard67
Hello,
I solved my problem .. it seems that with Hardy, ACPI-support is now delegated
to pm-utils and Nvidia-kernel drivers doesn't mix so well with it. Following
the recommendations of Vlowther in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pm-utils/+bug/180378 , I created a
file /etc/pm/config.d/ containing

# /bin/sh
# override the vbe-related video options if the nvidia driver is loaded.
# the nvidia kernel module knows how to handle this stuff properly.
if grep -q nvidia /proc/modules; then
DISPLAY_QUIRK_VBESTATE_RESTORE=false
DISPLAY_QUIRK_VBEMODE_RESTORE=false
DISPLAY_QUIRK_VGA_MODE_3=false
DISPLAY_QUIRK_DPMS_SUSPEND=false
DISPLAY_QUIRK_VBE_POST=false
fi

and voila .. resume does not lock the display and computer anymore ...
