Well I tried the live CD of the beta release of Karmic, the animation was perfect. However, the animation I tried wasn't that of the desktop cube, but desktop wall, for I wasn't able to install advanced desktop effects in the live session. Moreover, the desktop wall animation is flawless in Jaunty too, which means being flawless in Karmic does not necesserly mean that desktop cube is also perfect. Sorry i couldn't be more helpful!
