[Bug 1637638] Re: Gnome Software causes heavy prolonged disk on start-up
Hi ! [Bug 1822937] Re: NVIDIA settings won't write to /etc/xorg
Same here, with Nvidia 455.45.01 on Ubuntu 20.04. In fact I've been facing this for years, since 18.04. The workaround I'm using is to call nvidia-settings via a shell script in Gnome's Startup Applications. It's a bit annoying because it only applies after you log in, but has the additional benefit that you can execute manually if your monitors get out of sync for some reason (handy if you use a KVM that forces X to re-detect monitors). You can save your config via nvidia-settings to a separate location, and then extract the exact parameters for each monitor. Here's mine: # monitor-reset.sh: sh -c 'nvidia-settings --assign XineramaInfoOrder="USB-C-0" --assign CurrentMetaMode="DP-5: 1920x1200 +0+560, USB-C-0: 2560x1600 +1920+160, HDMI-0: 1920x1200 +4480+0 {rotation=left}"' > /dev/null 2>&1 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1822937 Title: NVIDIA settings won't write to /etc/xorg To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-settings/+bug/1822937/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1673463] Re: VirtualBox grabs focus, causing issues in GNOME Shell and Unity (other DEs might be affected too)
Same happens with Virtualbox 5.2.0 r118431 (Qt5.6.1) running on a Ubuntu 14.04 host with Gnome 3.12.2. The workaround is to press the host key first, and then you can move your guest window, resize the screen, etc. Note that you can only do 1 operation at a time; when you release your mouse button the guest auto- captures the keyboard + mouse, so you need to press the host key again if you want to do something else (like increase the viewport, after moving the window). It's a bit disorientating to not be able to move the window freely, particularly for someone coming from a VMWare background, but works fine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1673463 Title: VirtualBox grabs focus, causing issues in GNOME Shell and Unity (other DEs might be affected too) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox/+bug/1673463/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1965535] Re: Stop recommending snap
+1, I would also strongly prefer that Ubuntu stops adopting snap by default, or at least give users the option to use other deb/apt alternatives. I respect the work done by snap developers, but given its current state breaking XDG standards, forced app updates, and impact on size/performance, I don't believe it's ready for prime time (nor will be anytime soon). I've been a loyal Ubuntu user for almost 15 years, but this would make me reconsider and switching to another distro. I don't say this as any form of pressure, but to indicate how strongly I feel about this issue. Judging by the size of this other thread [1], I'd venture many other users feel equally about this. [Bug 1950859] [NEW] Ubuntu installation failure - Vaio Nvidia and RAID connected to the problem
Public bug reported: At first, impossible to install Lubuntu 15 on a Sony Vaio PCG-3M. By suppressing the RAID0 of 4 SSD 64Gb, I could install on the disk0. But still very unstable system. Then by acting on the TPM in the BIOS, a first installation was done. The TPM actions where first a CLEAR, then a ENABLED. In the internet comments, some people were speaking about the Nvidia processor. So I installed the Nvidia pilot (a Nvidia native pilot, but approved by Ubuntu) and finally, a first installation of Lubuntu 15 was done. But It's impossible to install something better, like Ubuntu 20 for example. The installation keeps crashing at the end. For unknown raisons, the wifi pilot was lost, and impossible to restore it. [Bug 1950859] Re: Ubuntu installation failure - Vaio Nvidia and RAID connected to the problem
Hi Steve, The version is Lubuntu 15.4. When I tried to upgrade this OS, a message appeared saying "to old for upgrade. Install the version 15.10". So I will download Lubuntu 15.10 and give a try. "Nvidia pilot" means "Nvidia driver", yes indeed. I took some pictures of the error messages appearing during the installation. The only working installation was the Lubuntu 15.4. To get there, I erased the four SSD disks (after removing the RAID0 from the BIOS). Then I formatted the SSD disk0 with the option "bootable" activated. Each other installation (like the Ubuntu 20.04) done on top of this first installation failed.
