I also have this problem. The collapsed World Clock Applet does not display the weather nor temperature when they are checked under preferences. The locations are set correctly under preferences. Whenever I've expanded the applet the weather was shown correctly. Unfortunately I also have the problem where it freezes the whole panel when I click to expand the clock.
