[Bug 222560] Re: Thunderbird 2.0.0.12 does not start up when Compiz Desktop Effects are installed (Kubuntu 8.04)
I just found a (temporary) solution to this problem: on my laptop Ubuntu 8.04, when I launch Thunderbird from the console when the window is docked to the top of the screen or to one side of the screen, the program starts normally, while when I launch Thunderbird from a console that is "floating" (e.g. no docked) I get that Bad Window error. It also succeded when I launched Thunderbird from the Applications menu, while the console window was docked, while is the console was "floating" Thunderbird didn't start. It seems to me that everything is related to the presence (or the absence) of a single "floating" window, if there are only docked windows (consoles, or firefox), then Thunderbird starts normally. -- Thunderbird 2.0.0.12 does not start up when Compiz Desktop Effects are installed (Kubuntu 8.04) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/222560 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 314074] [NEW] XPath library bugged? AttributeError: Element instance has no attribute 'xpathAttributes'
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: python-4suite Hi, I have had a problem with python-4suite and its XPath library using google calendar plugin fo opensync. [Bug 571164] [NEW] Udev - cannot mount root on kernel 2.6.33
Public bug reported: Hi, yesterday I updgraded my Ubuntu Lucyd Lynx from Beta 2 to Release Candidate (eg. run update-manager by hand, auto-update doesn't work), it found many packages to update and all run fine. I upgraded to Lucyd Beta 2 last week from Ubuntu 9.10, Dell Vostro 1510 with NVidia card. I was using a vanilla kernel 2.6.33.1 recompiled by excluding all unnecessary stuff, I also excluded initrd and compiled ext4 driver in the kernel. All was fine, both with Ubuntu 9.10 and with Lucyd Beta 2. But this morning, at the first boot after the update, when I selected at Grub prompt my vanilla kernel after some seconds of Plymouth screen it appeared a message stating that root partition (/) cannot be mounted and asking if I want to solve the problem manually. I pressed "M" and a root console appeared. I saw above some messages that udev logged while trying to mount partitions, it said that root partition could not be mounted because "No such file or directory". At the console, no sda devices (!!) where found under /dev/. My home directory was not present, /home was empty, no hidden files where present. My home directory is also encrypted. I attach my fstab. I don't know what else to attach, because no log files were generated, no messages, no syslog, no kernel log. What's happened with udev/udevd? Why it cannot mount my partitions anymore? And why, if it said "cannot mount / partition", I was presented with a root console with all my hard drive (except home directories)? I think that there is some problem with that kernel, maybe because of the lack of initrd. If I choose Ubuntu 2.6.32 default kernel, with initrd support, all is fine, system is up and running. I then tried recompiling vanilla 2.6.33.1 including initrd, the compilation went fine (make-kpkg), deb packages where generated, but when I run dkpg -i to install them NO initrd image was generated in /boot, is that normal? Am I forgetting something? I will try recompiling "Gentoo-way" generating initrd image. Let me know if you need something else. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Udev - cannot mount root on kernel 2.6.33 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571164 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 526045] Re: no entry for device-mapper found
Hi, I got a solution! This problem appeared suddenly after I recompiled with Lucid RC the Ubuntu kernel which ships with this version, 2.6.32. I copied the configuration from my "old" 2.6.33 Vanilla (which I actually can't make working, I really don't understand what's wrong with it, but after I upgraded to RC from Beta 2 the same kernel doesn't work anymore). I tried to recompile my kernel adding one more module, MD and BLK_DEV_DM, Device Driver>Multiple Devices driver Support> Device Mapper Support. After I added that as module, all is fine again, and when I run an "update-grub" no more messages stating /proc/devices ecc. are printed. [Bug 343215] Re: pybootchartgui crashed with ValueError in get_proc_state()
Hi, thanks Anders! I made some tests with my different kernel configurations, and I discovered that with original Ubuntu kernel 2.6.32 bootchart generates correctly the png, while with my custom kernel Ubuntu-2.6.32 and with my vanilla 2.6.33 it doesn't. I had another problem with my custom kernels, both 2.6.32-ubuntu and 2.6.33-vanilla, which I considered more important, ureadahead was not working as expected, not generating its pack file in /var/lib/ureadahead and causing a really slow boot time. On another bug report, which I can't found right now, I read that I should enable some features in kernel configuration, features that I disabled because .. why should I need a debug file system?!? Enabling debug file system, kernel tracers and "Trace process context switches and events" inside kernel tracers solved. So, fixing ureadahead by enabling those modules also fixed my problem with bootchart, now it works well with Ubuntu kernel 2.6.32-customized. I still haven't tried with vanilla 2.6.33 because ureadahead needs a patch to be applied to kernel sources, and today I got a system perfectly running with at least one configutation, so maybe tomorrow I will patch the next kernel :-) Hope it helps Bye emas -- pybootchartgui crashed with ValueError in get_proc_state() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/343215 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi! I still had this issue, but now I can't reproduce it anymore.. I clicked on "Broadcast" for the first time (I had already configured Facebook and Twitter) from the indicator applet, and then Broadcast account became "activated". Then, I clicked on "Broadcast accounts" from my user menu on the right edge of the screen, I don't know how it is called, maybe meMenu, where you could see your picture and set your chat status and click on "Chat accounts", "Broadcast accounts" and "Ubuntu One". After that I clicked there on "Broadcast accounts", nothing happened and a second "Broadcast" icon appeared. Apparently, they both bring up Gwibber interface when clicked. I also had two gwibber-service when typing "ps -e | grep gwibber". Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy Hi, with Ubuntu 10.10 and all latest patch (Empathy 2.32.0.1), when I suspend-to-ram my pc the chat status become "away", but when I come back from suspend it doesn't return to previous value, so I have to manually switch it to "available". ** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: empathy status suspend-to-ram -- status remains away when coming back from suspend-to-ram https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/674500 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 674509] [NEW] it takes too much time before to open a chat
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy Hi, with Ubuntu 10.10 and latest Empathy version, when I want to start a chat with one of my contacs (by clicking on its nick) or when I want to respond to a contact by clicking on the mail in notification area, the window chat takes too much time before to appear, about 20 seconds. It happens only when a chat is "new", if I have the window already open all works fine, the window popup immediately if it were "hidden" under some others windows. ** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: chat empathy window -- it takes too much time before to open a chat https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/674509 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 661004] [NEW] Message disappears if contact goes offline
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy Hi, I just found a annoying bug in Empathy/indicator plugin, I really don't know where to put this. Here's bug description: When one of my contacts sends me a message e.g. with gmail chat, I correctly receive the message as popup and the notification area displays the message (e.g. the icon up there changes). So I can read the message by clicking on the icon, Empathy works, the tab is open an so on. But, if the contact that sent the message goes offline BEFORE I have read the message (e.g. I have clicked on the icon up there and opened Empathy tab), then the icon change color and the notification up there disappears and there is simply no mean for me to read the message, the message disappears as if if wasn't even sent. I think that, if I look for the contact in Empathy and start a chat even if he is offline, the message is correctly displayed in the history, so probably it is not completely lost. At least, this is what happens when the contact comes back online, I can read the message. But this does not happen if I go offline: the notification is still there, so I can read the message (as far as my contact is online :-)). Last version of everything (Maverick, Empathy), just run an upgrade. ** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: empathy notification -- Message disappears if contact goes offline https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/661004 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 662597] [NEW] file /etc/hosts reset/rewritten
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager Hi, after the dist-upgrade to Maverick I see a very strange and annoying behaviour relating to my file /etc/hosts. It seems that the file is always reset on boot to the version the system found when I run the dist-upgrade (not to an empty one, my file is still full of alias and Ips). If now I add an entry to the file, like a new alias for my system e.g. from 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost to 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost something.local all works as expected, but after a reboot the file is reset to previous version. I'm a web programmer, so I definitely need to have full access to /etc/hosts, why something should rewrite it?!? Maybe it's the Network Manager, because the first line on my hosts file is 192.168.100.41 ima-zen # Added by NetworkManager ima-zen is my host name, while the ip address is retrieved through DHCP, so maybe the Network Manager decides to modify the file and to reset it. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- file /etc/hosts reset/rewritten https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/662597 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
