[Bug 363470] [NEW] package seamonkey-browser None [modified: /var/lib/dpkg/info/seamonkey-browser.list] failed to install/upgrade: files list file for package `linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic' is missin

2009-04-18 Thread CC
Public bug reported:

Hi, thanks for your attention to this matter. I am not a newbie, but am
still as stupid about Linux as I was the first day I tried it two years
ago I think. I'm not sure I have given you all the info you need but I
hope so. Thanks again.

Here is the message from the terminal window after I was unsuccessful at
installing SeaMonkey:

Selecting previously deselected package seamonkey-browser.
(Reading database ... dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/seamonkey-browser_1.1.15+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.2_i386.deb
 (--unpack):
files list file for package `linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic' is missing final
newline
Errors were encountered while processing:

/var/cache/apt/archives/seamonkey-browser_1.1.15+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.2_i386.deb
Processing was halted because there were too many errors.
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
A package failed to install. Trying to recover:

Right after that error message I saw that there was a crash notification
bubble from one of the icons at the top of my linux desktop.

Right after that crash notification, i got the following error message:

Package problem
Sorry, the package "seamonkey-browser 1.1.15 +noblnonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.2" failed
to install or upgrade. You can help the developers to fix the package by
reporting the problem.

So I clicked report and got brought here to this page at this URL:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/seamonkey/+filebug/3usu5pDgIwsoHSH3su4zmsmQ6le?field.title=package+seamonkey-browser+None+[modified%3A+%2Fvar%2Flib%2Fdpkg%2Finfo%2Fseamonkey-browser.list]+failed+to+install%2Fupgrade%3A+files+list+file+for+package+%60linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic%27+is+missing+final+newline

Here on this page, I got the following thing automatically filled in for
me at "Summary" where it says "Please describe the bug in a few words."
I have no clue if it is correct:

package seamonkey-browser None [modified: /var/lib/dpkg/info/seamonkey-
browser.list] failed to install/upgrade: files list file for package
`linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic' is missing final newline

At System > About Ubuntu, I get something very strange (usually there
are not so many things blank, i think?):

Using an Acer laptop similar spec. (ATI X1250, and AMD Turion x2 TL-60),
I get the flicker in 9.04 (official release) also. Was not a problem in

i got an error message that x11proto-composite doesn't exist
so i'm sure this bug was not in that package

but i have no clue what package this is related to

sudo apt-get install -y libesd0 libsdl1.2debian-oss
sudo apt-get install -y build-essential binutils linux-headers-`uname -r` gawk
libtool libgtk2.0-dev

prior to that i had been following the steps on this page, all the way down to
the above 2 commands i listed
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenSound

and prior to that i had accidentally turned my system's power off while
linux updates were being installed thru the little red arrow auto-
updates that you get in the task bar sometimes. shortly after that
problem i got errors with everything i tried to do and had to delete
everything in /var/lib/dpkg/updates/0 and then run this to fix, 'dpkg
--configure -a

the system said i should have a file to attach but i have no clue where to find
it either

[Bug 359511] [NEW] package cheese 2.24.2-0ubuntu0+intrepid1 failed to install/upgrade: files list file for package `linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic' is missing final newline

2009-04-11 Thread CC
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cheese

This relates to pkg: cheese

It ALSO may relate to dpkg, whatever that is, cause i got an error about
that too, I copied all my errors below.

I included the apt-cache policy info for both those things.

Here was what happened:

I was trying to UNinstall cheese. It should have uninstalled. But it
didn't.

I got these messages afterwards:

Changes applied
Not all changes and updates succeeded. For further details of the failure,
please expand the 'terminal' panel below.

I can't expand the terminal panel, it won't work. But I also got this
error:

An error occurred
The following details are provided:
E: cheese: files list file for package 'linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic' is
missing final newline

I did a RETRY of the uninstall, it still didn't work but i was able to
expand the terminal panel this time, the message there was:

(Reading database ... dpkg: error processing cheese (--remove):
files list file for package `linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic' is missing final
newline
Errors were encountered while processing:
 cheese
Processing was halted because there were too many errors.
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
A package failed to install. Trying to recover:

And that was all it said.

I recently had a problem where I powered off my system by accident in
the middle of a linux update. Since then I have had many weird errors. I
have not had the time to investigate or fix anything, I wish I could get
this mess fixed.

[Bug 401219] [NEW] BOOTLOGD is enabled but NO boot log messages

2009-07-18 Thread cc
Public bug reported:

hi

I have enabled bootlog in /etc/default/bootlogd:

BOOTLOGD_ENABLE=Yes

on Jaunty with Gnome, restarted the machine, but NO boot log messages.

I've done the Upgrade to Karmic.
/var/log/boot was created, but it has only this entry:[code]
(Nothing has been logged yet.)[/code]

bootlogd seems to be not installed.

# /sbin/bootlogd
bash: /sbin/bootlogd: No such file or directory

I cannot find a bootlogd program in /usr directory:

# find /usr -type f -name "bootlogd"
#

Is it in Ubuntu forgotten or not installed by default?

under Debian Lenny it works perfectly.

[Bug 99244] cannot type traditional chinese at OO by gcin

2007-03-30 Thread cc
Public bug reported:

I open OfficeOffice writer under ubuntu 7.04 beta.

I have installed gcin for traditional chinese input. I can input
traditional chinese in any application, such as firefox, note pad and
gaim.

However when I open the OO Writer and try to input traditional chinese,
the word cannot be displayed. I believe the word have been typed
because the cursor is moving. English typing is situation is normal.

Such situation has been solved by changing the word fonts to
"文鼎PL中楷Uni", the words can be displayed.

I didn't need to change fonts for previous version when I type
traditional Chinese by using SCIM. I am not sure if it is the bug of OO
or gcin.

+1 for adding HTTP2 support. While we are asking for features, pls
enable TCP Fast Open too in the compilation flags.

It's kind of sad that the curl that ships with macOS has more features
enabled than in Ubuntu

[Bug 1280496] Re: ed25519 host key not working on 6.5p1

2014-03-27 Thread cc
Adding the requested output below. As you can see, the ssh server offers
up ECDSA host keys even though I've done the requisite ssh-keygen -t
ed25519 /etc/ssh/ssh_host_ed25519

To be clear, the user key exchange *is* ed25519. I'm trying to figure
out why the server key exchange is not the same. Also, I've cleared out
.ssh/known_hosts just in case

[Bug 1298280] Re: Update OpenSSH to 6.6

2014-03-27 Thread cc
Just as an aside as I'm not sure what the right forum for this should be
but maybe Ubuntu can consider updating security packages as a separate
update policy for LTS releases.

What I mean by this is given our current security climate, I feel that
it's important to make sure people are using the latest packages of
openssl, openssh, gnutls etc. It does not be a large list of software
packages, just a set of core packages so that we get improved security
all around.

Just a thought.

[Bug 1280496] Re: ed25519 host key not working on 6.5p1

2014-03-31 Thread cc
So I did a little more investigating and tested "ssh " and
"ssh localhost"

Also, it seems that the key is HostKeyAlgorithms in .ssh/config. Search
HostKeyAlgorithms in ssh_config

If I manually force it to only use ed25519, then the host key exchange happens
over ed25519, else it uses ECDSA.

So there's something strange going on with the setup. Support is there but the
defaults are wonky.

if this is not fixed, this could lead to issues with running 14.04 VMs
properly with VMware.

since this should be a pretty easy fix, i'm requesting that this be

fixed prior to 14.04 release especially given 14.04 is LTS. thanks.

[Bug 1275068] [NEW] consider upgrade to openssh 6.5p1 for 14.04

6.5p1 was just released and contains some very nice enhancements. Given
that 14.04 will be LTS, it would be nice to have this included instead
of just 6.4p1

[Bug 1280496] [NEW] ed25519 host key not working on 6.5p1

2014-02-14 Thread cc
Public bug reported:

So I decided to test out the new ed25519 support on the new release of
OpenSSH. I generated the necessary keys, added the HostKey line in
sshd_config and restarted.

It does not appear to work and could be missing a compile flag
somewhere.

Long story short, I can generate the appropriate keys but trying to
actually use it results in openssh offering ecdsa keys instead.

Specify "enable-ec_nistp_64_gcc_128" on the Configure (or config) command

[Bug 940230] Re: openssl on 64bit is much slower than before

2012-03-28 Thread cc
Can you post some numbers to compare? Post the output of "openssl
speed aes" for different scenarios at a minimum and specify your
processor type.

There should be a comparison of both 32bit to 64bit on precise (which is
what I think you are comparing) AND a comparison of ssl performance on
precise and earlier distributions.

Here are the results of my latest round of testing, my hardy results are
from a 32bit build:

http://pastebin.com/XrFUT8Zq

So looking at the results of aes-128 (which arguably is more important
currently than -192 or -256 because of wider usage), results of 16 - 256
bytes are off significantly.

[Bug 963420] Re: https download performance significantly worse in precise than lucid

2012-03-28 Thread cc
It would be helpful if you could isolate the cipher and protocol being
used.

Try something from the client to the source like "openssl s_client
-connect :443 -tls1"

It should return the cipher that is being used.

As I commented on bug 940230, you should also test the relative speed of
the cipher using "openssl speed ".

This should help isolate where the regression is.

Given that openssl affects so many packages, I think it's important that
this be resolved asap as it'll have significant performance
ramifications as evidenced by this bug.

Status in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
hi

I have enabled bootlog in /etc/default/bootlogd:

BOOTLOGD_ENABLE=Yes

on Jaunty with Gnome, restarted the machine, but NO boot log messages.

I've done the Upgrade to Karmic.
/var/log/boot was created, but it has only this entry:[code]
(Nothing has been logged yet.)[/code]

bootlogd seems to be not installed.

# /sbin/bootlogd
bash: /sbin/bootlogd: No such file or directory

I cannot find a bootlogd program in /usr directory:

# find /usr -type f -name "bootlogd"
#

Is it in Ubuntu forgotten or not installed by default?

under Debian Lenny it works perfectly.

[Bug 587574] Re: Bookmarks toolbar doesn't show any bookmarks

2010-06-14 Thread CC
I have this exact bug too, which started happening abt 2 days ago after
i got an autoupdate to 2 of my add-ons (i can't for the life of me
remember what 2 add-ons). Is there any information I should submit which
could help to determine the cause of the bug?

I only have 8 extensions, and 2 of those were disabled at the time the
problem started. The ones which were enabled were (i'm listing the
version numbers which appear in the list today... remember that 2 of
these were an earlier version immediately prior to my problem starting,
but i don't know which 2):

adblock plus 1.2
downthemall! 1.1.10
flashblock 1.5.13
openbook 2.0.1.1
tab mix plus 0.3.8.3
ubuntu firefox modifications 0.7

Hope this helps.

[Bug 587574] Re: Bookmarks toolbar doesn't show any bookmarks

2010-06-14 Thread CC
Ok I figured out which add-on / extension was the problem with my
bookmarks toolbar links disappearing. It was OpenBook 2.0.1.1.

Disabling that add-on, appears to have solved my problem totally, so I
no longer have to run in safe mode. (Safe mode disabled all my
extensions so I could not function that way for very long!)

Thanks John, for suggesting that the problem could be related to
extensions. When my bookmarks toolbar links disappeared, I was so
scared. Losing my favorite places would have been so scary. Thanks for
all the help! I hope what I found out, can be of some help. Good day.

[Bug 2057687] Re: systemctl hibernate error: "Call to Hibernate failed: Invalid argument"

2024-04-29 Thread cc
The "Call to Hibernate failed: Invalid argument" problem, i try to
resolve it by using a separate swap partition(i used a swap file before
upgrade to 24.04), changing the /etc/default/grub by removing the
resume=xxx and resume_offset=xxx kernel parameter, changing the
/etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume by adding resume=xxx, then sudo
update-grub2, sudo update-initramfs -c -k all.

My config file and swap partition looks like:
$ blkid
/dev/mapper/vgubuntu-swap: UUID="a01cbd0d-9dcc-405a-9a5e-a3d2687419fc"
TYPE="swap"

$ cat /etc/default/grub|grep LINUX
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="splash"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

$ cat /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume
resume=UUID=a01cbd0d-9dcc-405a-9a5e-a3d2687419fc

Test and check the log.
$ sudo systemctl hibernate
It works.

$ journalctl -x --no-pager --since='2024-04-29 13:45:00'

Some log looks like below:
The system has now entered the hibernate sleep state.
..
kernel: ACPI: PM: Preparing to enter system sleep state S4
..
kernel: ACPI: PM: Waking up from system sleep state S4
..

If anyone met the "Wakeup event detected during hibernation, rolling back"
problem, change the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and add blacklist kernel
module, for example:
blacklist intel_hid

[Bug 1299999] [NEW] Lao characters not rendering

2014-03-30 Thread cc young
Public bug reported:

when a Lao character has both a vowel and a tone mark above the
consonant, the tone mark does not show.

consonant with vowel: ມື with tone mark: ม้ with both (tone mark above
vowel) มื้

in gedit (as well as firefox and chrome!) the tone mark does not show if
there is no white space above the line.

a second bug in gedit is that if the consonant is on the last line then
cannot enter a vowel below the consonant, eg, ດູ. when you type it,
only ດ appears. if you create a line beneath the line, then can go back
and type in ດູ correctly.

do not think the problem with gedit. if not, please let me know the
correct party.

this is a huge problem!! it is pretty much blocking used of Ubuntu in
the country of Laos except for die hard fans.

[Bug 1299999] Re: Lao characters not rendering

2014-03-31 Thread cc young
discussion of line height in Lao and Thai

in Lao and Thai, the amount of vertical space required depends on how
high and how low vowels and tone marks are stacked on the consonant.

one can either select the max above and max below the consonant to
determine a fixed line height, or one could analyze the line and set
line height according to need.

the first approach is simpler, but usually results in a lot of wasted
space. consonants with both a vowel and tone mark above probably occur
in about 30% of the lines in a typical newspaper, for example.

below there are three occurrences: a character is a descender, eg, ຽ, a
vowel below, eg, ດູ, and the weird ຫຼ. (ຫຼ with ອູ vowel beneath is
theoretically possible but I can find no occurrences in the dictionary.)
descenders occurr in about 30% of the lines in a newspaper.

letting descenders and stacked tone marks share the same space is
possible if one horizontally adjusted the two lines to prevent
collision. (fixed width font makes no sense in Lao or Thai.) this
would allow a fixed line height that not too obscene, but kerning
between lines is pretty weird.

[Bug 1171718] [NEW] using tabs, gets confused when different lines in different tabs

2013-04-22 Thread cc young
Public bug reported:

using more than one tab, if you cntl-minus to make text smaller in one
tab, when you go to a tab that retained the regular size, it puts in
extra blank lines

first tab:
$ vim

second tab:
$ psql (or other readline app)

first tab:
shift-minus (to make font smaller = more lines per page)

second tab:
(extra blank lines have been inserted)

[Bug 928001] [NEW] Top Panel Bar displays incorrect date

2012-02-06 Thread cc young
Public bug reported:

On the top right bar, the time says "9:20AM"

When I click on it, it incorrectly says "Monday, 6 February 2012"

In the calendar itself the correct day, 7, is highlighted.

when the clock display is set to include the date, it correctly says
"Feb 7 9:20AM"

in summary, the clock is correct, the calendar is correct, but the date
display is incorrect!

using the Bangkok location if that has any bearing

when looking at date in other parts of the system, eg, command line and
firefox, the correct day is returned. the problem appears isolated to
this one display area

[Bug 928134] [NEW] browser "titles" move between (or span?) workspaces

2012-02-07 Thread cc young
Public bug reported:

in chrome, when a item's "title" is displayed - the little text that
appears over the item when the mouse hovers over the item - the title is
displayed in new workspace when switched there via keyboard.

for example, in the html
blah blah blah

when the mouse hovers over the DIV's "blah blah blah", 'See This'
appears in a small black box over the DIV.

when switching to different workarea, for example with Ctl-Alt-Down, the
'See This' in the black box shows in exactly the same place in the
