[Bug 38131] Re: Firefox causes massive Xorg CPU usage
I have an additional data point to add. My setup is: * Ubuntu 8.04 * AMD64 * 2.6.24-19-generic * Firefox 3.01 (Mozilla distribution, not Ubuntu) * Nvidia driver 169.12 * Flash 10 beta This problem manifested itself most noticeably on Facebook's new redesign (new.facebook.com): * During page load, both Xorg and Firefox would spike to ~50% CPU used each. * Once the page finished loading, Xorg would eat up ~86% of CPU time and Firefox would consume ~10%. I downgraded to Flash 9 and marked a dramatic improvement: * During page load, both still hit ~50% each. * After page load, Xorg dropped to ~15-25% CPU, Firefox stayed at ~10%. I understand that people have seen this problem without Flash being in the mix at all (i.e. with Java applets); nevertheless, it could help in finding the problem to see that Flash version can be a switch to toggle it on and off in a certain circumstance. It is likely that the way Flash 10 interacts with Firefox hits a very different (buggy) codepath than the Flash 9 interaction. This theory is further supported by the new additions to Flash 10: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/releasenotes.html#features -- nearly all of these changes are related to *graphics* and would likely interface with Xorg in a different manner. -- Firefox causes massive Xorg CPU usage https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/38131 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 220957] Re: Fails to see blank CD/DVDs for writing
I have the same problem in that i can no longer access any media on cdrom. My hardware is still fine on windows. But one thing to note is that when i upgraded to Hardy (at release time), i was able to access a music cd at least (didn't use any other feature from my dvd-rw). Since i apply all updated software on a regular basis, i can only presume something broke this ability. I can confirm i'm not able to mount any data cdrom or dvdrom, and have similar output to commands as listed above. [Bug 1850099] [NEW] Kernel 5.3.0-19 panic after upgrade to eoan ermine from disco dingo
Public bug reported: After upgrading to eoan ermine, my laptop (Dell Precision 5510) got an error message stating "Error: out of memory Press any key to continue..." After pressing a key, nothing changed. I left the room and came back to see that there was a kernel panic. I'll attach picture as I couldn't copy/paste the console output. Public bug reported: audio fail in any format, weather using main speakers head phones, or external head phones. im not new to Ubuntu and have solved several audio issues in the past but this one eludes me. i am making the assumption that there may be no Linux compatible sound driver, this is NOT a dual boot operating system, i have no other computer at the moment and if i did i have not used a windows OS in over 20 years and would not know how to. with all my years of running Linux ive never had a problem so big that i couldn't just look it up, i do now. this is a 32 bit microwatt OS with Ubuntu a its base. 32 bit, 1 gb ram, 134 gb hard disk, Intel atom n450 or n470 processes at 1.66 GHz manufactured in 2009. i cant give much in terms of what is wrong with the sound, as i myself do not know. as for giving the steps ive already taken those are many and i haven't kept a list. [Bug 1726519] [NEW] Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at isci_task_abort_task
Public bug reported: So I just upgrade from zesty zapus to artful aardvark. At boot, right after I enter my drive encryption password, it kernel panics with the above message. [Bug 1633172] Re: Linux 4.8 as in 16.10 hangs during boot
I think I am hitting this as well. Upgraded from 16.04, to 16.10. The kernel that is installed is 4.8.0-26-generic I also have an nVidia GPU. Some strange behavior I noticed, however. If I boot into the recovery kernel for 4.8.0-26, and choose 'Fix broken packages', it hangs at a certain point (don't recall off-hand where). But if I throw sigint/^c/ctrl+c, the normal boot process starts and eventually drops me into multi-user mode in xfce and I can work normally, and running 4.8.0-26. So this is a possible work around?
