[Bug 1796441] [NEW] upstart /etc/init/lightdm.conf exists but unsed since since 16.04

2018-10-05 Thread bhs
Public bug reported:

Since xenial (16.04), systemd is init and services are launched via
systemd .service files.

I found that lightdm.service files available, installed and used to
launch it.

However, I found legacy upstart /etc/init/lightdm.conf since 16.04.
Since, upstart is not used to launch lightdm, this config is redundant
and should be removed.

[Bug 1767801] Re: Wrong group name "admin" instead of "adm" in default sudoers file of sudo 1.8.21p2-3ubuntu1

2018-08-31 Thread bhs
I see same problem in ubuntu 16.04.

The adm group was added on 11.10 & admin group existed till 12.04
(https://askubuntu.com/questions/612751/what-is-the-difference-between-
the-groups-adm-and-admin). So, going forward since 12.10, admin group is
no more but replaced by adm group.

In the context of keeping intended feature (i.e. Members of the admin
group may gain root privileges), the fix to update "admin" to "adm"
looks correct to me.

[Bug 1788345] [NEW] ubuntu-session not a dependency of unity

Assuming lightdm preinstalled in the system, Installing unity does not
enable using ubuntu unity desktop.

To get things working, package ubuntu-session needs to be separately

[Bug 736354] Re: gdbserver (arm,natty) <-> gdb (ia32,natty) fails

2014-08-04 Thread bhs
My comment #4 is not exactly, correct.

(gdb) target remote 192.168.1.14:1234
Remote debugging using 192.168.1.14:1234

This is expected to work correctly becuase gdbserver should pass target
arch information from server side to client side.

I have seen this happens correctly when gdbserver is from Ubuntu from
12.04 to 13.10 and gdb-multiarch being Ubuntu 12.04.

>From 14.04 onwards, I see the same problem reproducing again. So, a
regression in gdb. Re-opening bug. This is a bug for gdbserver (updated
package).

[Bug 1081734] Re: malloc hangs when ltp mallocstress is run repeatedly

2012-12-19 Thread bhs
Adam,
This bug repros in 12.04.1 system.
This patch applies to eligbc-2.15 which is in precise and quantal.

I am looking for this fix in ubuntu repository for precise. I wish to do
the required work by assigning to bug to myself and port changes to
eglibc-2.15 branch. Please let me know how I can get started on pushing
the patch to launchpad.

If community is OK, with the patch, can it be pushed to 12.04.2 release
after release-based tests are completed.

[Bug 736354] Re: gdbserver (arm,natty) <-> gdb (ia32,natty) fails

2013-07-17 Thread bhs
Hi Matthew, Shivkumar,
I have seen this issue even when binary is copied and passed to gdb-multiarch.

error:
Remote 'g' packet reply is too long:
2959b2be2

The root cause of the problem is we are not letting gdb-multiarch know
the architecture. To solve this, simply pass in gdbinit file or via gdb
shell.

'set architecture arm'

This fixes the problem mentioned in bug.

This is not a gdb-multiarch bug and this is to be expected since gdb-
multiarch is general to many architectures. It assumes the user pass the
architecture via commands or gdbinit file.

[Bug 1202220] [NEW] step function does not work with gdb-mutiarch

2013-07-17 Thread bhs
Public bug reported:

In cross mode, running gdbserver from 12.04 armhf in the target and
using gdb-multiarch in the host 12.04 x86 ubuntu, we can connect to the
target using suitable gdbinit file but we cannot use step command in
gdb-mutliarch shell. Using once starts the program to be run in the
gdbserver, using it once more the program completion in the target.

Steps to repro:
Test C file: test.c

#include

void printest()
{
printf("printest function.\n");
printf("printest function.\n");
printf("printest function.\n");
printf("printest function.\n");
}

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{

printf("Hello World!\n");
printf("Hello World!\n");
printest();
printest();
printf("Hello World!\n");
printf("Hello World!\n");
return 0;
}

Build:
arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc -g test.c -o test

In target:
gdbserver :1234 ./test

In host:
gdb-multiarch ./test

gdbinit file used has:
set solib-absolute-prefix
set sysroot
set solib-search-path  /lib: /usr/lib
set architecture arm

In the gdb shell:
(gdb)target remote :1234
(gdb) step
(gdb) step

Output:
The program terminates in the target and the debugging is stopped.

Also, I verified that using just the latest 12.04-armhf gdb (not the
client/server combination) in the target itself that the same issue does
not reproduce.

[Bug 525552] Re: Byobu overwrites shell prompt setting

2019-11-08 Thread bhs
I was also affected by issue.

But thanks to thread, I found how to disable PS1 changing by byobu.

Default bash.rc enables byobu colorizing if it exists:

[ -r /home/bhs/.byobu/prompt ] && . /home/bhs/.byobu/prompt   #byobu-
prompt#

If line is commented, PS1 remains identical to what's set by bash of user's
.bashrc setting.

Personally, I feel byobu's authors tried to make prompt better but
terminal program limitations might be screwing it up :(.

[Bug 1961117] [NEW] Vulnerability in glibc - CVE-2022-23219

2022-02-16 Thread bhs
Public bug reported:

Title: Vulnerability in Glibc - CVE-2022-23219

Expectation: Glibc needs to be upgraded to glib v2.35 (Feb2022 release)

Details of CVE - https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2022-23219 &;
https://ubuntu.com/security/CVE-2022-23219

Description: The deprecated compatibility function clnt_create in the sunrpc
module of the GNU C Library (aka Glibc) through 2.34 copies its hostname
argument on the stack without validating its length, which may result in a
buffer overflow, potentially resulting in a denial of service or (if an
application is not built with a stack protector enabled) arbitrary code
execution.
