[Bug 261301] [NEW] system halted at startup

2008-08-25 Thread benske
Public bug reported:

Hello everyone,

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 dualcore sytem, with an Ati video card and 2
gb ram. My wireless network card is a 3945 abg intel.

uname -a
Linux ben-o-mat 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Aug 20 22:56:21 UTC 2008 i686
GNU/Linux
(Hardy Heron)

I have all actual packages installed.

My problem: When I start my laptop it stopps every time with this dialog

mkdir: Cannot create directory `/dev/shm/var.run': file exists
mkdir: Cannot create directory `/dev/shm/var.lock': file exists
rmdir: `/dev/shm/var.run': device or resource busy
rmdir: `/dev/shm/var.lock': device or resource busy

Then comes some other infos. After "Configuring network interfaces" it
stopps for a while and resume after ctlr + alt + del.

I cant give you an error log, because my /var/log/boot is emty. When you
tell me how to enable this log I will post it. Up to this, I wont change
anything to fix this bug.

I had attached my dmesg output for further informations.

Thanks for reading and helping!

Greets, Ben

[Bug 261301] Re: system halted at startup

2008-11-14 Thread benske
I confirm this bug for Intrepid. Updated from Hardy. Same Hardware.
This bug cames after a config with pppoeconf.
Yesterday I tried to connect to a pppoe network - failed. Up to this my
/network/interfaces has an new entry

auto dsl-provider
 iface dsl-provider inet ppp
 pre-up /sbin/ifconfig eth0 up # line maintained by pppoeconf
provider dsl-provider

Can this bug cause of pppoe?

Thanks an greets, ben

I confirm this bug. After deleting 40 GB of small files I have 30 and more

ok.
I use Intrepid, too.

I installed Tor at this time. Maybe this caused the problem. There is no output
when I run "env|grep _proxy" in the terminal.
Same with echo $http_proxy.
Now the same error occurs today:

System: Ubuntu 13.04 on Sandy Bridge x64 Dell laptop.

The program "startup disk creator" failed to create a working USB stick device.
Boot error: "Operating System Not Found". After
sudo dd if=/dev/sdX1 of=~/usb-stick.img bs=10M
sudo dd of=/dev/sdX if=~/usb-stick.img bs=10M
sudo rm ~/usb-stick.img
(solution found here: http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Live-USB#Problemloesungen)
the system was able to boot. Next error was : "An attempt to configure apt to
install additional packages from the CD failed." See same Bug #658865
After "sudo rm /usr/lib/ubiquity/apt-setup/generators/40cdrom" installation
worked so far.

Please fix the program Startup Disk Creator. Its not working for a really long
time now. Even Unetbootin does not work properly.

2011-09-30 Thread benske
Public bug reported:

First log in and the desktop wallpaper dows not look right. It seems to me,
that ubuntu whants to show the desktop in a different area. The wallpaper is
centerd at the bottom right corner an an the left side and upside are wide
black stripes. When I move a windows in this area, a lot of single windows are
shown (images of my window, that dows diasapear). There are no problem in the
windows itself, so browsing just work normaly.
The top and side panels are shown correctly and compiz is crashing a lot.
