[Bug 119660] Re: Autofs should be reloaded when state of network interface changes
This is still a problem for the LTS (Hardy). [Bug 67090] On upgrading to Edgy from Dapper, confusing kernel selection
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager I followed the standard procedure to upgrade (gksudo "update-manager -c -d") from dapper to edgy. In dapper the 686 kernel was used. In edgy, by default a kernel was selected (i386) which didn't support all of the features of my processor, most importantly smp & scaling. This was confusing in the upgrade for several reasons * I was under the impression that there was only a single x86 kernel in edgy, so I didn't think I needed to seperately select a kernel * Afterwards, I installed a generic kernel, but the i386 was booted in preference, again causing some confusion as previously the boot order had used any newly installed kernel in preference. This also gave the impression (when not paying attention to the boot) that there was an intermittant problem with the kernel The following suggestions might solve this: *If a second, very simple i386 kernel is to be included in the disto, a selection dialog (say asking the user if they want a failsafe or normal kernel) would prevent this kind of confusion from arising. *If more recently installed kernels were given preference in the boot order this might help. *Renaming the i386 kernel to something more distinctive would also be of benefit *Switching to using only a single x86 kernel Many thanks ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed ** Description changed: Binary package hint: update-manager I followed the standard procedure to upgrade (gksudo "update-manager -c -d") from dapper to edgy. [Bug 155718] sbackup fails silently when backup reaches maximum filesize for filesystem
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: sbackup When backing up to a filesystem with a relatively small maximum filesize (such as fat32), sbackupd does not inform the user that an incomplete backup has been made, which is both misleading and dangerous as it risks loss of data. This is related to bug #144295, as preferred behavior would be to automatically split tar files when the filesize reaches the filesystem maximum. ** Affects: sbackup (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- sbackup fails silently when backup reaches maximum filesize for filesystem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155718 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 155718] Re: sbackup fails silently when backup reaches maximum filesize for filesystem
It's about the "silent" failure- there is no indication that there has been a problem, which could lead an individual to believe that the backup was successful. The comments in bug 144295 indicate that a fix may be difficult, but in the meantime a warning should be thrown up to indicate that it hasn't worked properly. -- sbackup fails silently when backup reaches maximum filesize for filesystem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155718 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 152794] Re: nis daemon fails to attach to domain the first time it is run in Gutsy
The above workaround didn't work for me (-no-ping), and this is a show stopping bug for gutsy in my lab environment (mostly a mixture of dapper and feisty workstations, using NIS). I've two workarounds; one is to manually reload autofs on start, but this is impractical for the number of workstations in use. The other is to turn off roaming on my wired connection and set it manually to use DHCP. I've three boxes effected by this bug, and I'll test the other two ASAP and report back if it doesn't work for them. -- nis daemon fails to attach to domain the first time it is run in Gutsy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/152794 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 119660] Re: Autofs should be reloaded when state of network interface changes
Due to this issue, an update of feisty to gutsy this breaks the expected behavior on NIS clients. I've just updated 3 workstations to gutsy and each needs autofs to be restarted after boot for users to be able to log on if they have non-local home folders. -- Autofs should be reloaded when state of network interface changes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/119660 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 96669] Re: [feisty] deleting a song from the ipod only updates the database
It's not great, but I have found a way of correcting this problem if creating a .Trash-$USER doesn't work, or if it's too late to try that. If you install amarok you can right click on your ipod file list and select "repair ipod->scan for orphaned and missing files". This will create a list of files which you can then delete permenantly from the ipod to create more space. This is a very frustrating bug, as I only noticed it when I completely ran out of space- i.e. at a point when you can't really do anything to correct the problem. Whilst it might be meant to create a trash folder and move the file there, I found that it just removed the entry in the ipod database. -- [feisty] deleting a song from the ipod only updates the database https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/96669 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 91413] linux-restricted package not updated with new kernel package in dapper
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager On updating with update-manager (or alternatively apt-get or aptitude from the command line) if a new kernel package (linux-image-2.6.x.y-z-arch) is found and selected the associated restricted modules packages (linux-restricted-modules-2.6.x.y-z-arch) is not installed by default. This has occurred a couple of times and whilst it is not a show stopper, it does stop X and some other hardware dependent software from starting (I use an nvidia video card). It also occurs rarely enough to require some time troubleshooting before realizing what the problem is, and I would argue is unexpected behaviour. I believe that I have encountered the same problems with edgy, but I don't have access to a machine running edgy to test any more. I have however also been using feisty (since ~herd 4) but haven't come across this yet. Is it possible to make the linux-image package conditionally dependent on linux-restricted, if an older version of linux-restricted is installed? Alternatively the linux-restricted package could be made to update more appropriately. [Bug 62286] OpenOffice Impress Crashes on save
Public bug reported: A new document is opened and edited. When going to save, the appropriate dialog comes up but doesn't respond when the save button is pressed. I can replicate the bug on other systems which are using my NFS mounted home directory, but I cannot when saving locally to any machine. When our user home directory quotas are full and they attempt file operations in nautilus it causes the gvfsd-metadata process to use over 80% of a CPU and generates excessive nfs traffic. This is a problem that needs to be fixed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/517021 Title: gvfsd-metadata causes 100% CPU usage To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/517021/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
