[Bug 1312103] [NEW] tiff3 not available in 14.04 for installing canon printer driver
Public bug reported: Two canon printer drivers that work with ubuntu 12.04 do not work with ubuntu 14.04. Error messages appear trying to install well known canon printer drivers. The printer drivers are : Canon Inkjet Printer Driver for Linux: cnijfilter-mg5100series-3.40-1-deb.tar.gz and the Linux_UFRII_PrinterDriver_V280_us_EN.tar.gz Any clues why they work perfect with 12.04 but not with 14.04 ? Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome The system gives the error: "8254 timer not connected to io-apic" and Gnome will not work. Re: [Bug 137725] Re: textfield of strigiapplet loses focus
On kubuntu 8.04 the strigiapplet is not installed by default so I had not used it for some time. Today I installed because you asked how it worked now and yes, the problem is still there. RE: [Bug 349923] Re: firefox has no media player installed by default
The website I mentioned as example needs a media player plugin that can play .asf files. I installed the mplayer firefox plugin (one of the suggestions of firefox). I do understand that the way it is now means more flexibility, but having a media player browser plugin installed by default means that you have a fully usable system earlier. [Bug 39413] Re: ubuntu doesn't notice when running on battery
I have been getting this bug recently as well. I am running a 1.5yr old Compaq Presario v2000 laptop. I've been using Ubuntu Gutsy since tribe 5 came out, and within the last month, after a round of updates, gnome-power-manager says I am running on AC power, with or without AC power present. Also, the battery tab has completely disappeared from the gnome-power-manager preferences gui-window, yet whenever I execute the cat /proc/acpi/battery/*/state command in a terminal, it correctly states whether the battery is charging, charged, or discharging depending on it's charge state, and AC power status. -- ubuntu doesn't notice when running on battery https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/39413 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 83593] Re: All package removed from adept during "alsaplayer-esd" installation
i can confirm this. i have an daily updated kubuntu gutsy system and adept removed digikam, kdm, etc etc when i only tried to remove the kde4base-packages. Public bug reported: I have a hardy installation on a Dell XPS M1330 The sound does not work after booting, but only starts working after a '/sbin/alsa reload' which unloads modules and reloads exacly the same modules again: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/eamelink# /sbin/alsa reload Unloading ALSA sound driver modules: snd-hda-intel snd-hwdep snd-pcm-oss snd-pcm snd-page-alloc snd-mixer-oss snd-seq-dummy snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi snd-rawmidi snd-seq-midi-event snd-seq snd-timer snd-seq-device (failed: modules still loaded: snd-hda-intel snd-hwdep snd-pcm snd-page-alloc snd-timer). [Bug 500613] Re: Monitor brightness can not be controlled by hotkeys
xev correctly recognizes the buttons as XF86MonBrightnessDown and XF86MonBrightnessUp. In System Settings -> Keyboard & Mouse the display brightness keys are correctly recognized as brightness up and down when clicking "Custom key" for a random action and pressing those buttons. [Bug 509329] [NEW] Both monitors are set too low resolution when second monitor is attached from system start
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have a laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-SR51MF/S) which I use together with an external monitor (Benq G2410HD). I'm running Kubuntu Lucid (development version, latest updates installed). The video card is an Ati Monility Radeon 4530 HD; i'm using the xserver-xorg-video-ati drivers. When looking at Screen settings, there is printed (Auto) after the correct native resolutions for both the laptop screen as the external monitor. What the system does when booting while the HDMI cable is already connected and the external monitor is switched on, is that it enables the external monitor in clone mode (which is good), but it sets both displays to 1024x768. This resolution is lower than both the native resolution of my laptop (1280x800) and the native resolution of my external monitor (which is 1920x1080). What I would expect that if the system can detect which resolution is the native resolution, it would enable clone mode and set the resolutions to the respective *native resolutions* instead of setting them both to 1024x768. [Bug 497092] [NEW] suggest packages to be installed when a device is plugged in
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace When an (usb) device is plugged in, the computer now only responds correctly if the right software is installed. For example, it might propose to import photos when a camera was attached or to sync music files when a mp3 player was connected. But if this software is not installed, the computer does not know what to do with it and the user might not know what software to install. In most cases, the user will know what to install, but it would be very handy if the computer would suggest a few drawing programs (Krita for example) when plugging in a tablet or if the computer would suggest to install spacenavd when a 3DConnexxion SpaceNavigator was installed. There could be written an addition to the Device Notifier Plasmoid (possibly based on solid and packagekit?) that has a list of devices and a list of corresponding packages that might be interesting for the user that plugs in such a device. This addition might then list the device that is plugged in and add an action to the plasmoid that lets the user install the software. Another idea is to notify the user via the Notification Plasmoid, like this is already done for Konqueror (which proposes to install extra packages for multimedia functionality). The device list should probably be based on usb ids and not on device classes, because some cameras or mp3 players are recognised as hard drives, while they are more than that. ** Affects: kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- suggest packages to be installed when a device is plugged in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/497092 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebase-workspace in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

When my system is already running, I hotplug the HDMI monitor (e.g. I come home, get my laptop out of standby and plug the monitor in) and I select 1920x1080, the resolution changes but the video is corrupted (it "swizzles") , as if a wrong frequency is used. I have this problem, too, on my Vaio VGN-SR51MF/S. The volume hotkeys and brightness hotkeys work, but the following hotkeys do not work: - The zoom out / in buttons (Fn+F9; Fn+F10) - The Mode hotkey, which in windows lets the user choose from three activity hotkey sets (work, play and settings) - The first 4 Activity hotkeys do work, but the fifth (the one which is most to the right) does not - The Settings hotkey which lets the user assign other actions to these sets The Sleep and Switch LCD/External monitor do work, but in KDE, I could not find a hotkey setting to which I could assign these hotkeys. I attached my DSDT file, because the earlier mentioned forum thread seams to be dead. ** Attachment added: "DSDT file" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/36229178/VGN-SR51MF_S-R4090Y1.dsdt.tar.gz -- New Sony Vaios hotkeys don't work (fn_key polling) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/50692 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 484408] [NEW] kdm sometimes tries to login without asking for credentials and then stops at the hard disk icon
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace I am running Kubuntu 9.10 with KDE 4.3.3 from PPA. This bug was also present before I used the updated KDE. Sometimes when I boot my computer, KDM does not ask for my credentials (I did not set up autologin). Instead it tries to log in on its own showing the KDE loading screen, but then it stops after it showed the hard disk icon (normally the tools icon and the loading other icons would show up after the hard disk icon). The computer does respond to user input, though, because I can press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and click shutdown or reboot, so the mouse and keyboard are working. [Bug 482619] [NEW] samba often fails to download complete files
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: samba I am running Kubuntu 9.10, all packages up to date. The version of the samba package and related packages is 3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1 My problem is that when I copy large files from my university network to my laptop (using e.g. dolphin), the copying stops and I get an error that the file could not be read. The file is still available then. The KDE file copying service has no resume functionality when I try to copy it again, so this is very frustrating. When I use smbget -r to download a file, it stops downloading too after a while, but I can resume it using this tool. The error smbget returns is "Can't read 64000 bytes at offset X" (X being some large number depending how much of the file is downloaded already). I did not try to copy files to the university network. I connect to that network using openvpn. ** Affects: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- samba often fails to download complete files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/482619 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
