[Bug 466325] Re: eth0 not listed by ifconfig if cable not plugged when booting; system crashes if cable hot unplugged
Downgrading network-manager to a version from Jaunty didn't work. However, I've noticed that ifplugd package was not installed on my machine. After installation of this package hot plugging/unplugging of network cable became possible and didn't cause any issues. It seems like ifplugd is not being installed with Karmic by default. -- eth0 not listed by ifconfig if cable not plugged when booting; system crashes if cable hot unplugged https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/466325 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 466325] Re: eth0 not listed by ifconfig if cable not plugged when booting; system crashes if cable hot unplugged
Excuse me, I'm wrong: ifplugd didn't help! The issue still exists! This issue is generated also by desktop version of Ubuntu 9.10, not only UNR. It could be easily generated using live boot from USB flash without installing the Ubunto to hard drive: 1. Boot from live USB with Ethernet cable plugged; 2. Unplug Ethernet cable -- system crashes! Note that I have HP Mini 1030nr with 16GB SSD and BIOS upgraded to F.15 (KBC version 02.12).
Perhaps, it is some kernel bug. I've attached a fragment of syslog when this issue occured (Ubuntu 9.10 desktop). ** Attachment added: "system log fragment" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34946910/syslog.txt -- eth0 not listed by ifconfig if cable not plugged when booting; system crashes if cable hot unplugged https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/466325 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 466325] Re: eth0 not listed by ifconfig if cable not plugged when booting; system crashes if cable hot unplugged
Here is another syslog - from Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix installed on HDD (the previous log file was taken from live USB boot). The system crashed at 15:12 (Tried to set deprecated property gsm/band) ** Attachment added: "system log fragment (UNR 9.10). [Bug 466325] [NEW] eth0 not listed by ifconfig if cable not plugged when booting; system crashes if cable hot unplugged
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager This issue appears on my HP Mini 1030nr netbook, under Karmik Netbook Remix (Ubuntu 9.10) with network-manager 0.8~a~git.20091013t193206.679d548-0ubuntu1. It has built-in ethernet contorller. When booting without network cable plugged in, Ubuntu can't detect eth0 interface (it is not listed by ifconfig). When booting with plugged ethernet cable it is successfully configured automatically and works properly. However, when I try to hot- unplug the cable, system crashes: black screen with a blinking cursor appears, with caps-lock indicator blinking. I have installed Karmic from USB flash without ethernet plugged in, but with GSM broadband connection. Also, wireless doesn't work in Karmic for this model of netbook (it works properly under Jaunty Netbook Remix). ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: crash eth0 ethernet hot-plugging hot-unplugging network plugged unplugged -- eth0 not listed by ifconfig if cable not plugged when booting; system crashes if cable hot unplugged https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/466325 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
