[Bug 55012] Re: [Bug 55012] Re: Installer crashed.

2006-08-03 Thread Zaphod
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 48355 ***

Not really, because the real problem was that the partitioner was the
cause of it. It changed the partitions around from how I had them set
up in the first place. The way the partitioner interpreted my setup was
to put the root directory in the space I allocated for the swap drive.
That, or a mismatch on one of the other drives ('/usr/' into '/'), is
probably what caused the crash. And I figured out how it happened in my
head.

When I was making the partitions on the drive, it was on top of another
Linux installation. I deleted the root partition and put another one in
it's place, which the installer marked as hdb8. Then I deleted the
other three partitions (swap, /usr and /home) and added new ones, which
the installer marked hdb5, 6 and 7. When I went to the next screen, the
partitions had been swapped around so that they were in the order 5, 6,
7 and 8, but the order that I has assigned their partition types was not
swapped with them. So the 2.1G root partition became the 2.1G /usr
partition, the 1.25G swap became the 1.25G root, etc.

I went back and deleted all the partitions at once, reinstalled them in
order and had no problem with the installation at all.

Thanks for your report. I'm afraid that your disk seems to be too small
to complete an Ubuntu desktop installation successfully. Bug 48355 notes
that the partitioner should have warned you about this.

[Bug 55012] Re: [Bug 55012] Re: Installer crashed.

2006-08-09 Thread Zaphod
LOL Well, if you'd asked me that right after I'd installed it there
would have been no problem. But I've already installed so much stuff,
and done so much work, on the system that it doesn't look like a very
exciting idea.

I'll tell you what. I have another partition for linux on another HD.
(I'm basically trying out different linux versions to find which one is
right for me. So far, Ubuntu rates pretty high on my 'keep' scale.) I
can try and install it on that partition as well, though I don't know if
that will cause a conflict of some sort. The main thing I'm worrying
about is the new install reconfiguring Grub. But if the install bombs
out like it did last time, it won't get to that point, will it?

[Bug 57601] Nice work, guys.

2006-08-24 Thread Zaphod
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libglib2.0-0

The new drivers cause my screensavers to jerk. Not like when Mesa is
installed (I got rid of those drivers quick), but like it runs fine for
about a quarter of a second then stops for a quarter of a second. I
tried renaming them so that the system would only find the 1.2 drivers
again, but then my desktop wouldn't come up. So I had to tty it back
into /usr/lib and change them back again.

Had my system working just fine with the 1.2 drivers and you had to fit the 2.0
drivers into some update that I would have refused if I'd known they were in
there. Now, my screensavers are all jerky and I don't even want to know how
the other programs that use animated graphics are doing.

So now I'm faced with two choices. First, reinstall Ubuntu for about
the 20th time and then spend the days reinstalling all the stuff that I
have installed now. Or I could just wait for you to come out with some
drivers that work correctly.

[Bug 70458] "Country" column in infowidget plugin always shows NA

2006-11-05 Thread zaphod
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ktorrent

The infowidget plugin in Ktorrent displays extra information about a
torrent. In the "Peers" tab view, there is a "Country" column that shows
the flag of the country and its two letter country code.

After upgrading the distro from Dapper to Edgy, ktorrent was also upgraded.
(version 2.03 using KDE 3.5.5) The new version of ktorrent always shows
"NA" in the Country column in the Peers tab.

This behaviour was not observed in the previous version of ktorrent. I
had ktorrent from Dapper-backports repository previously and the
"country" column behaviour was as expected.

[Bug 365321] Re: iwlagn - Wireless network disconnects and won't reconnect without reboot

2010-04-20 Thread Zaphod
I would defiantly say it is related every one should comment and post on
that bug since it actually has a Kernel person assigned to the bug.
There are quiet a few bug reports for this core issue but that one is
the first time I have seen someone assigned to it.

[Bug 429035] Re: [Karmic] Intel Pro/Wireless 3945BG (driver: iwl3945) disconnects frequently at random

2010-02-08 Thread Zaphod
Also before I did the 9.04 upgrade to 9.10.

When using 9.10 from a fresh install. Setting the BSSID seamed to help a
lot. I think the issue is the wireless is frequently scanning the
wireless and getting an unexpected result from the driver and dropping
the connection.

This does not present itself now that I upgraded from 9.04.

Maybe some of the drivers that got blacklisted in 9.10?

[Bug 374650] Re: Wireless Disconnects When Loaded by Torrent Traffic, Must Reboot To Reconnect

2010-01-06 Thread Zaphod
Okay I added Linux to affected projects.

If anyone knows a better way to direct this to someone who can get a fix
in route? I am pretty new to this bug reporting.

I know this is a big problem for a lot of people. And it would be great
if a fix can make it into the next release.

Re: [Bug 374650] Re: Wireless Disconnects When Loaded by Torrent Traffic, Must Reboot To Reconnect

2010-05-27 Thread Zaphod
one thing that helps so you don't need to reboot is right click on network
manager and uncheck wireless then re-check wireless.

Also I have seen some improvement by assigning a static ip to the network
adapter but it is still present.

Thanks,

Re: [Bug 374650] Re: Wireless Disconnects When Loaded by Torrent Traffic, Must Reboot To Reconnect

2010-05-27 Thread Zaphod
This is a good start for reporting bugs as well as the Ubuntu
forums. Unfortunately this bug has been around for a while it seams to be
with some intel wireless chips. For some reason I have found that installing
9.04 and upgrading to the latest version seams to fix the problem. At east
it did for me when I was using 9.10. With that said I am running a
regular fresh install of 10.04 right now. I have found that if you right
click on the Wireless and uncheck wireless and then recheck wireless it will
save you a reboot when it is acting up.

Some people have said it is related to using Wireless N but I would rather
have the faster LAN speed than disable it.

Hopefully it isn't an issue with the newer chipsets I think I am going to
buy a HP Envy 15 this summer.

My Dell XPS m1500 is falling apart on me (literally).

Thanks,
Nicholas Vilppu

[Bug 429035] Re: [Karmic] Intel Pro/Wireless 3945BG (driver: iwl3945) disconnects frequently at random

2010-02-07 Thread Zaphod
Thats interesting but I don't have an internal modem. The only way I was
able to fix this was to install 9.04 and upgrade to 9.10.

Just for the heck of it I used EXT3 and no home drive encryption.

[Bug 516412] Re: Pressing causes X to freeze

2010-02-12 Thread Zaphod
I am the original bug submitter an the only way I was able to fix the
issue was to remove Plymouth all together. However due to other issues I
am currently running 9.10 now so the others with the same issue can help
troubleshoot as they have been.

It's not too hard to tell if it is the same bug. If you press
and the system pretty much freezes except for ssh then it is the same
issue.

I'm not real sure why we really need Plymouth anyway seams that every
one has less problems and faster boot ups without it.

[Bug 522079] [NEW] Can't select Input Language Steals curser focus

2010-02-15 Thread Zaphod
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ibus

Sometimes when I am trying to select my input method every time I move
my courser over the IBUS panel it steals the courser focus and says "No
input window".

It can be quite annoying but eventually I can get it to work by random
clicking closing windows etc.

[Bug 522079] Re: Can't select Input Language Steals curser focus

2010-02-15 Thread Zaphod
This is a screenshot of the what it looks like. Is the same as if you
clicked outside of the text box and tried to switch the input method.
When you bring the mouse back to the page (no clicking) the input method
is no longer grayed out but as soon as you put the mouse over it it is
grayed out.

2016-05-20 Thread Zaphod
For my Machine (Lenovo Thinkpad X201) 4.4.0-21 works with minor glitiches,
4.4.0-22 breaks it: Graphic errors after resume, correction requires reboot.
4.2 (used on the 14.04-Installation before) worked perfectly. 4.4 on the 14.04
worked with glitches.

When I changed the security to RDP instead of negotiate under advanced
it worked when it would crash every time with a particular host.

choice. I only started having the problem with 12.04 I started with

[Bug 338362] Re: wpa_supplicant wifi connection gets disconnected with tls_connection_handshake

2010-10-01 Thread Zaphod
You may try using a wireless G connection if you are using N. Or it may
be a crummy router. I added an extra G access point and now everything
works great. My routers wireless N though is really unreliable I will
never buy another Buffalo router.
