What I did was 1.add the debian unstable repository to my sources.list :deb ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free 2. sudo apt-get update 3. Used Synaptic to upgrade just maven2 and its dependencies. 4. Removed debian unstable from repositories WARNING! Do not do a global upgrade on the debian unstable repos. You will seriously frag your system and probably have to do a fresh install. Yes the comments above give you a workable way to recover your system. You need to be able load a live linux operating system that can write your your filesystem. I used a live-usb drive. You can use the ubuntu install cd for this purpose. After booting into the live cd based environment, you need to mount the partition on your main system that contains /boot. Then you can make the necessary modifications to grubenv as per comments above. cd /boot/grub rm grubenv grub-editenv grubenv create grub-editenv grubenv set default=0 grub-editenv grubenv list default=0 This should give a bootable system. Prepending ::: to your IPv4 address fixes the problem. I tried the upstream debian packages and found the same effect. Gsoap 2.8.3 can be compiled with an option to disable to setsockopt to IPV6_V6ONLY. You probably installed the Gnome3 ppa at some point. I had to run "sudo ppa-purge ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3" twice to revert nautilus back to a functional state.
