I've got a few suggestions, though. First, you definitely want to be up to date with Bindwood. I have been concentrating on getting it working best on Lucid, and haven't filed the SRU for Karmic yet, but I do maintain a PPA with both karmic and lucid packages: ppa:urbanape/bindwood-exp The latest for lucid is 1.0.4-0ubuntu2~ppa~lucid and the latest for karmic (for reasons of a packaging snafu on my part) is 1.0.4-0ubuntu3~ppa~karmic > I have two machines, a PC with Lucid and a notebook with Karmic, both > have Ubuntu One installed and where added to my account. On the notebook a bookmark folder for Ubuntu One > synchronized bookmarks appeared, and has bookmarks in it. On my PC, > nothing happens. > It's possible that problems are occurring due to the different schemas the two machines' packages of Bindwood are using. The only official packages for Karmic are 0.4.2 and earlier, which use a pre-1.0 schema. Here's what I'd suggest to get some diagnostics going: * In Firefox on both machines, navigate to about:config and add a boolean preference called bindwood.debug and set it to True (won't affect the current 0.4.2 on your Karmic notebook, but will make it possible to collect debug info when you upgrade it) * Add my PPA to your software sources, and update xul-ext-bindwood on both machines. * Stop both Firefoxes * Start Firefox on the notebook and open the Javascript console * Wait until it's finished (you'll hopefully get timed pull entries in the console) before starting it on the other machine. So how can I find out what's wrong? Where can I see which bookmarks are > actually stored online? They really should appear in the web interface > of my Ubuntu One account just like files, contacts and notes, too (that > would be great for using them from other PCs, too). Where can I see > which bookmarks are contained in my local couchdb instances? Where can I > see replication logs? To see your bookmarks in Couch, you can navigate to your desktopcouch's futon view: $ xdg-open file://$HOME/.local/share/desktop-couch/couchdb.html We're currently building a web UI for the one.ubuntu.com site as well. [Bug 443121] Re: With Bindwood installed, Firefox is completely unresponsive
Hi, all. I've got some news for everyone affected by this. While the updated package isn't yet in Universe, you can get an updated package from my PPA: ppa:urbanape/bindwood-exp The updated version should be: $ apt-cache policy bindwood bindwood: Installed: 0.5-0ubuntu1~ppa1 Candidate: 0.5-0ubuntu1~ppa1 Version table: *** 0.5-0ubuntu1~ppa1 0 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net karmic/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 0.4.2-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/universe Packages This update doesn't solve moving the work to a background thread, but it does alleviate the vast majority of work we do at (subsequent) startup and while the current session is running. Please give it a try. On the first startup after installing it, Firefox will still take a short time to become responsive, but after the initial sync, it should be far more usable. I'm still working on making all this happen in the background, as it should, but this should get you all back to being productive with FF. Thanks, Philipp, for the bug report. Yes, we need to work better with both NoScript and Firefox's AppArmor profile that ships with Karmic. [Bug 560583] Re: Bindwood migrates for infinity
Hey, all. Thanks for reporting this. The only time you *should* be getting the migration status is if you've got some records in your local desktop couch and some preferences set in Firefox (triggered from an earlier Bindwood run). Can you please enable a boolean Firefox pref called bindwood.debug and set it to True, when running in debug mode, the Javascript console will output a lot of info, and there's likely one little crash point. [Bug 443121] Re: With Bindwood installed, Firefox is completely unresponsive
Anton, Thanks for taking the time to file a bug. We've added some diagnostic debugging that can be enabled if FF is run with BINDWOOD_DEBUG in the process' environment. The easiest way is to run from the terminal (like you tried): $ BINDWOOD_DEBUG=1 firefox & This will output a lot of debugging messages to the error console. The default FF error console only allows you to copy one message at a time, so you could install the Console2 extension ( https://addons.mozilla.org /en-US/firefox/addon/1815 ) to enable copying multiple lines. Bindwood iterates over all your bookmarks, pushing each to your desktop couchdb (after first checking that it's not already present in the db). During testing and development, it's likely that we didn't provide our own instances with enough bookmark data to really stress test the setup. Off hand, do you have an idea of the number of bookmarks you have? In the future, Bindwood will do a much better job after the first run, of keeping its network traffic to a bare minimum. As it stands now, it's a little too chatty. ** Changed in: bindwood (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Zachery Bir (urbanape) ** Changed in: bindwood (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Also affects: bindwood Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: bindwood Status: New => Triaged -- With Bindwood installed, Firefox is completely unresponsive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/443121 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 444022] Re: CouchDB prompting for username/password with Bindwood
What I know so far: - Previously, Bindwood would get the oauth tokens from the user's keyring. Desktop Couch had already moved to pulling this information from the INI file, so now, we follow suit. - We're now getting inconsistent error behavior - we can create databases, but attempts to save documents fails with 'Authentication required'. We suspect, and will perform some testing today, that it might be similar to the %2F problem encountered by the desktop couch team in the past few weeks. ** Branch linked: lp:~urbanape/bindwood/proper-oauth-creds -- CouchDB prompting for username/password with Bindwood https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/444022 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 444022] Re: CouchDB prompting for username/password with Bindwood
The vast majority of the cred requests were due to the fact that when we pull a UUID from Couch, we were using a bare CouchDB.request without first stamping the OAuth headers on the request. Since we now need to authenticate every request, these were failing, which in turn, caused the PUT for the documents to not even be attempted. I've solved this by moving the OAuth header stamping to CouchDB.request, which all requests ultimately go through. -- CouchDB prompting for username/password with Bindwood https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/444022 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In its current incarnation, there will be a linear lag at startup, depending on the number of bookmarks stored in Firefox. At startup, we iterate over all the local bookmarks and push them to CouchDB if they're not already present. This is a known limitation, but isn't going to land before Karmic. We'll be pushing updates to our PPA in the meanwhile between Karmic and Lucid releases, so please stay tuned if Bindwood is something you plan on using. I think I see what the problem is and how to correct it. There are means to avoid livemarks folders from the folder iteration, and we haven't been doing that. Yes, we saw that during testing, too. The branch that fixes this behavior is almost through review. After it's released there are two ways forward for those suffering from this: 1) Move aside your bookmarks Couch database (you'll need to make sure that desktop couch is stopped), and let Bindwood recreate the bookmarks database from scratch - it will avoid syncing the livemarks if present) 2) Manually delete the documents from Couch (preferably after disabling Bindwood temporarily). Another bug that was fixed in the branch under testing was that new bookmarks created by Firefox were stamped as coming from the toolbarFolder by default, even if they were created (say) in the livemarks folder. Then, when Bindwood pulls those bookmarks and has to recreate them, they'd end up in the toolbar. Not at all what anyone really wants. Sorry for the trouble, folks. It's about to get a whole lot better.
