[Bug 449744] Re: Firefox crashes when attempting to load Firebug 1.5 alphas

2010-02-14 Thread Yuval
I confirm on my Karmic 64 bit core 2 duo laptop that firefox 3.6 does
not crash with firebug 1.5. I installed it both as a binary (from
getfirefox.com) and from the "firefox-stable" ppa referenced by
ioanbsu's comment above (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US;
rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100123 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Firefox/3.6).

Both played nice with firebug 1.5 and a dependent on it (FirePHP in my
case). That'll hold me over until the official Ubuntu channels catch
up. Keep in mind that not all plugins are 3.6 compatible yet, as Micah
Gersten pointed out. Thanks guys.

[Bug 1137630] Re: Emojis are not shown in ubuntu applications (and phone)

2016-04-06 Thread Yuval
Another possible approach to globally support emojis, is using
fontconfig with a patched cairo. Google developer @behdad put in some
great legwork with that . Details here:

https://github.com/googlei18n/noto-
emoji/issues/36#issuecomment-168209204

I think what's needed is to assess whether the patch works, is viable to
be part of ubuntu cairo binaries (or maybe kicked up to the source
maintainers), makes sense as the approach to use, etc..

Count me in as another user looking forward to using emojis on my
terminal, text editors, etc.

[Bug 1517046] Re: Unable to set 1920x1080 resolution in Ubuntu 16.04 as a VMWare Fusion guest

2016-05-06 Thread yuval
I have a similar issue with built in screen in a laptop, it has smaller
than usual pixels so the default resolution 3840x2160 (15.6", Dell
Precision M3800 PM-RD33-928) gives tiny icons and buttons and text. I
tried to change to 2048x1152 by fiddling with xrandr and by changing
text files I don't remember where, but on restart it reverted to
3840x2160.

[Bug 610975] Re: Can not start pgadmin3

2010-08-02 Thread Yuval
The dpkg-buildpackage instructions worked for me as well. Two additional
things to note for us non-build-masters in training:

- To make sure I had all the packages to build pgadmin per the dpkg-
buildpackage instructions above i ran this command which should be more
catchall than guessing which packages are needed to build it:

sudo apt-get build-dep pgadmin3

-your resulting pgadmin package(s) may be different. Simply list them
first and then run the dpkg -i command:

ls ../pgadmin*deb

[Bug 521749] [NEW] cannot login ufter latest upgrade (4.4)

2010-02-14 Thread yuval aviel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

not sure this is the right package.

Kubuntu 9.10.
After latest upgrade, (probably second round of packages update after moving to
4.4), It is impossible to login.

Analysis:
Since KDM is up and running, I figure that there is no problem with the X
system and the video driver (nvidia).
It seems like kwin cannot start.
When I login, I get a black screen with mouse on it.
When I login to safe more, I see briefly konsole, and the screen is back to KDM.
The only error report I could find relevant is from /var/log/kdm.log, but I
can't upload it since I have no screen ;) (writing now from Windows).

I created an extra user, from the text screen (Ctrl-Alt-F1) and tried to
log in this user, but the scenario repeat again.

Now I can't login to my KDE account, worse, I can't see any work around.

Please help!

[Bug 516256] Re: Failsafe session doesn't work

2010-02-15 Thread yuval aviel
taking back my last comment. It is probably an issue with kwin, not with
kdm.

[Bug 521749] Re: cannot login ufter latest upgrade (4.4)

2010-02-15 Thread yuval aviel
Here is some more info.

I installed fvwm, so I'm now able to login into graphical environment
and launch all KDE apps.

however when trying to replace window manager, using
> kwin --replace >& /tmp/kwin.log

there is a crash and I get back to login screen.

Here is /tmp/kwin.log
could not access kephald, falling back to QDesktopWidget
adding an output 0 with geom: QRect(0,0 1440x900)
kwin: Fatal IO error: client killed

What is 'kephald' ?
Could this problem be related to xrandr?

[Bug 982501] [NEW] Rhino support (com.sun.script.javascript.*) removed between OpenJDK 6 and 7

2012-04-15 Thread Yuval S
Public bug reported:

The packages specifying Rhino support, `com.sun.script.javascript.*`,
are missing from OpenJDK 7, though they were included in OpenJDK 6.
This causes the `getEngineByName("JavaScript")` call on a
`ScriptEngineManager` to return `null` (see my [StackOverflow question
for this issue][1]).

Specifically, this code should return `2` but throws a
`NullPointerException`:

ScriptEngineManager factory = new ScriptEngineManager();
ScriptEngine engine = factory.getEngineByName("JavaScript");
try {
System.out.println(engine.eval("1+1"));
} catch (ScriptException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();
}

This might very well be the cause of [openjdk-7 bug #920214][2].
According to [Oracle bug #6876736][3], this is indeed a distro bug.

Note that when Rhino was included in OpenJDK 6, it caused package
conflicts ([openjdk-6 bug #255149][4], [Debian bug #512970][5]) .

Based on question [#192941][6]

Basically, after trying to install the JRE, apt-get is unable to install any
