[Bug 711392] [NEW] Lockup when 'Login as username' is displayed

2011-02-01 Thread Will Bickerstaff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

If I hover the mouse over my username on the gdm login screen so as the
tooltip "login as username" displays, then either pressing return to
bring up the password box or clicking on my username causes the whole
system to freeze. No response whatsoever, I can not switch to any VT,
ctrl-alt-del or ssh into the machine. I did leave it for 5 mins once to
see if it would sort itself out, when I came back the system was baking
and on next reboot immediately warned of high temps.

If I move the mouse pointer away from the user selection window so as
the tooltip doesn't display, then use the keyboard to select the user I
can log in normally.

[Bug 703589] [NEW] Crash while creating user

2011-01-16 Thread Will Bickerstaff
Private bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

This may be the same as bug #445199 but I'm not sure. Ubiquity is
crashing when creating a new user on 11.04 Jan 12 daily build. I'm re-
using an encrypted /home partition with the same username and password,
if it has any bearing on what's going.

I've attached /var/log/installer/debug Marked as private because this
contains passwords

Those passwords in debug weren't entered with caps, all letters should
be lower case. I've checked I didn't enter caps by running the process
again twice.

2011-05-01 Thread Will Bickerstaff
mic I see the same, typically when I bring up the find box in chromium
(ctrl+f), but not always. If I notice the display freeze quick enough
and switch to a VT wait a few seconds and switch back before my display
gets garbled I can occasionally rescue it. I'm not sure this is
particular to chrome/chromium though as I've had similar experiences
when using inkscape.

Dmesg has:
[35115.968171] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed...
GPU hung
[35115.969488] [drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request returns

[35115.969634] [drm:i915_reset] *ERROR* Failed to reset chip.

I'll catch those other logs next time it happens.

Thank you for your suggestion. However, the changes you are requesting
aren't really a bug and require more discussion, while this topic has
already has been discussed extensively you may want to re-open the
discussion on an appropriate mailing list or forum.
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/mailinglists might be a good
start for determining which mailing list to use.
