Thank you for the information Daniel!

I never thought that this was hardware related the way you describe it.

Anyway, thanks for your effort and please ask if you need any more
information/testing in the future!

[Bug 69029] Administration menu etries without gksu

2006-10-29 Thread Wietse Koopmans
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

After upgrading to Edgy from Dapper, I noticed the following problem in
the System->Administration menu:

For the entries:

* Networking
* Services
* Shared Folders

I got an error message stating that "The configuration could not be

After examining the menu entries with alacarte, I found that the
commands, e.g. 'network-admin' are called without the gksu command.

[Bug 78288] Re: kernel 2.6.20-9 doesn't boot with sata-hd

2007-03-02 Thread Wietse Koopmans
I can confirm this bug on a fresh install of Feisty Herd 5. The
following methods all perform a restart instead of a shutdown:

1. Shutdown via the "shutdown, reboot, etc, menu" from gnome-panel
2. "Options -> Shut Down" from the login screen
3. "sudo shutdown -h now" from a terminal
4. "sudo shutdown -h now" from a console (Ctrl+Alt+F1)

Only option is to press the power-button...

[Bug 78288] Re: kernel 2.6.20-5 doesn't boot with sata-hd

2007-03-05 Thread Wietse Koopmans
I have a normal Asus P4P800 motherboard, with an SATA HD containing Edgy
and a second IDE HD on which I installed Feisty Herd 5.

When only running the IDE drive, there is no problem. When turning on
the SATA drive as well, I get the "lost interrupt" and
"dma_timer_expiry" errors on bootup.

After adding the options noapic, nolapic and irqpoll the system boots
without problems. I have attached the output of sudo lspci -vv.

Is it normal that there are several different refference to my
motherboard? E.g. P5P800-MX, P4P800-SE? I have the standard P4P800...

Martin,

:(  indeed...

I downloaded the fedora LiveCD and it booted. During boot I got some I/O
Buffer errors, see attachment, (on device sr0, don't know what that is
on fedora), but that could have been the scratches on my CD ;)

Once in Gnome, I could mount my SATA and IDE drive without a problem.

[Bug 71040] Re: Kernel 2.6.20 reboots instead of shutting down

2007-03-15 Thread Wietse Koopmans
I think I might have found the source of this problem!

While testing several things at once I was taking the following steps:

* I was trying to install my wireless with ndiswrapper and wpasupplicant (after
installation I got no connection)
* I tried to shutdown the computer with the hibernate option, this halted my
computer (as Carlos Fenollosa mentioned as well).
* I than removed network-manager !!
* When I tried the hibernate again, the computer was locked.
* I unlocked the computer and tried the shutdown option, guess what, the
computer halted!

Could anyone please remove network-manager (network-manager-gnome and
ubuntu-dekstop (meta-package, safe to remove) will also be removed) and
see if this works for you too?

Ps. my wireless works fine as well now (without network-manager)

A crash report was waiting for me (vbetool), unfortunately, when I pressed

[Bug 94189] Re: Digital Output jack selected by default on a Soundblaster live

2007-03-23 Thread Wietse Koopmans
I have a Creative Audigy Value and for me there was no sound after
installation of Feisty. Disabling the "Digital Output Jack" on the
"Switches" tab in volume control solved the problem.

My guess is that the majority of the people use the analog output, so
setting this by default would avoid a lot of questions...
