[Bug 358099] Re: Brasero will not burn a video project

2009-04-13 Thread Vincent Tschanz
I confirm this bug. According to Brasero Help, I have installed the
following packages to allow brasero build DVD-video : ffmpeg vcdimager,
dvdauthor.

Step to reproduce :

1 Open Brasero and choose "Video prject"
2 Drag and drop a video (the one with Nelson Mandela if you don't have another)
3 click "Burn"
4 You will notice in th new window that the "burn" button remains greyed, so
you can't create your DVD or VCD

Lot of people have the same problem across Ubuntu forums. The sad thing
is, no one is aware that Brasero should convert video and author a DVD
automatically.

sync_to_vblank is still not activated by default in Lucid

This also affects Video playback where vsync is very important.

[Bug 534371] [NEW] The arrow for Ascending / Descending sort is inverted

2010-03-08 Thread Vincent Tschanz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubuntu 10.04

step to reproduce :

1: Open Nautilus
2: switch to List View
3: click on the Size column to choose a ascending sort.

Problem :
The arrow is pointing up, but the sort is descending, starting with the biggest
file to the smallest.

An ascending sort means "from the tiniest to the largest" and is usually
represented by an arrow pointing UP.
We read a list from top to bottom, according to this, a ascending sorted size
column should show the smallest file on the top (fist) and the largest on the
bottom (last).

This is not happening with a specific picture.
I have a very fresh install here, no added repos. So no more wallpaper than the

I have a dual-screen setup with Xinerama and I use the Nvidia restricte

2020-10-13 Thread Vincent Tschanz
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1847570 ***

Ubuntu needs a lock feature in the gnome sound settings, because each
time a device is detected the output/input will change automatically.
Sometimes this feature is wanted (I plug-in a headphone) sometimes it's
not (I don't want the sound output to switch to my monitor when I power
it since no speakers are plugged to it)

I have 12.04 up to date, with xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

running "synclient TapButton3=2 ClickFinger3=2" works for me, but it does not

Any workaround to get this fix working permanently?

Please see no offense in the folowing question, but is there any hope to
see this bug fixed automatically via further update or it is now a

[Bug 1173872] [NEW] Nautilus in 13.04 does not display available space

2013-04-28 Thread Vincent Tschanz
Public bug reported:

The new Nautilus in 13.04 (named Files 3.6.3) had removed the status
bar, thus removing the only easy way to know how much available space
remains on the system or the drive in use.

Now, If I want to know how much free space I have on a stock Ubuntu
system, I have 3 ways :

- Console : df-h or similar tool, not a solution for most of the users.
- Baobab
- Right-click on a folder > properties

I don't know for you but knowing at a glance how much free space is left
on my system or usb-key is very important for me.

As Files is a Gnome project, this isn't the right place to ask to bring
back an essential feature, I'm well aware of this. But I'm certainly not
the only one to miss this feature badly.

For the ones who think that Nautilus has been dumbed down to much,
here's an interesting project: https://launchpad.net/nautilus-elementary

[Bug 930021] [NEW] Touchpad is imprecise on a Macbook Pro 1.2

2012-02-10 Thread Vincent Tschanz
Public bug reported:

The touchpad of my macbook pro 1.2 under Ubuntu 11.10 is not as accurate as it
is under OS X.
In fact I have the feeling that the trackpad resolution is divided by 2 or 4
under ubuntu. When I try to do a precise movement, the minimum distance I can
achieve with the pointer is about 10 pixels, almost impossible to reach the
close button because of that.
It's often very frustrating to see te pointer "dodging" a button because of
that.
Look at this video to see how bad it is to navigate diagonally :

[Bug 796864] Re: Can't use AltGr on a French MacBook

2011-11-03 Thread Vincent Tschanz
Same problem here in Oneric.
Macbook1,2
Swiss-french keyboard

The "@" is on the "G" key. Under OSX, we print it using ALT+g.

a workaround for me is to remap the Right Command key (apple key) to act
as AltGr

for xmodmap :
clear Mod4
keycode 134 = ISO_Level3_Shift
add Mod4 = Super_L

So tu right command key still act as a Super key, and the right one as a
AltGr.

Another possible key to be remaped as AltGr is the one between le right command
and home key in the picture.
This key is totally useless, it's just a second ENTER key.

[Bug 875018] Re: Apps opens in the secondary screen

2011-11-04 Thread Vincent Tschanz
In compiz config, there is a "Place windows" option, with a Multiple output
parameter.
So I set it to "Use output with pointer" (I'm translating from french, english
may differ, but it's te only option about the pointer)

And it worked, the windows now opens ont the screen where the pointer
is. But after a couple of hour it's broken again, the windows appear on
the other screen.

[Bug 875018] [NEW] Apps opens in the secondary screen

2011-10-15 Thread Vincent Tschanz
Public bug reported:

This bug appeared after the Oneric upgrade.

I have 2 screens (configured using ubuntu's screen configuration tool)
my main screen on the left is a 1280x.1024 LCD monitor, my secondary
screen is a 1920x1080 beamer. So the second one is only turned on when I
need it.

With Natty, when I open an app, it opens in the main screen , no problem

Now, with Oneric, all apps systematically opens on the second screen
(which is turned off). Thanks to the workscape switcher I can drag them
to my main screen.

[Bug 780007] Re: [Natty] Stuttering video playback

2011-07-12 Thread Vincent Tschanz
I have the same problem.

One easy way to spot this is to watch the credit roll-up at the end of movie,
you will easily notice the stuttering.
Personally I have a core i3 graphics with intel open source driver.

Here is one way to avoid this stuttering while keeping Compiz on (works
for me) :

1- Open CompizConfig
2- Enter OpenGL menu
3- Disable sync Vblank
4- Close CompizConfig
5- Open a video

Is this workaround working for you guys?

[Bug 810337] [NEW] Skype does not quit

2011-07-14 Thread Vincent Tschanz
Public bug reported:

When I want to quit Skype, Ther is 4 possibilities :
1: Skype menu > quit
2: Skype tray icon > quit
3: Skype main window, red cross button
4: Dash icon, right-clic>quit

Both 3 and 4 are ineffective, the skype window disappear but the process
is always running. The Dash icon is not active, but if you start it
again from the dash you will get a new instance and you will be unable
to login to the same account.

Normally the Skype tray icon must stay even if 3 or 4 are used, but for
some reasons this icon can disappear too and the Skype process remains.
So the only solution to get skype working again is to manually terminate
the process wit the terminal or system monitor and restaring it.

[Bug 483541] Re: File-roller drag'n drop is unreliable

2010-10-23 Thread Vincent Tschanz
Can we open this bug? It happens to me every time I'm trying to drag n
drop from File-Roller to my raid-5 volume mounted in /mnt/raid/Mamoth
and linked on my desktop.

step to reproduce :

1: download this file :
http://download.blender.org/durian/score/Jan_Morgenstern-Sintel-MP3.zip
2: open it with File-Roller
3: select a file and drag-it into my raid volume
4: get the error : You don't have the right permissions to extract archives in
the folder
« file:///home/nevada/Bureau/Mamoth/Music/Jan%20Morgenstern/Elephant%20Dreams%20mp3/xds.txt »

To extract the files I must use File>extract and choose my folder.

Maybe a right problem in my folders, but why the extract command work fine when
the drag n drop don't ?
What useful information can I provide to resolve this problem?

[Bug 669914] [NEW] dropped frames using vdpau and subtitles

2010-11-02 Thread Vincent Tschanz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: smplayer

ubuntu 10.10
Libvdpau1 0.4.5ubuntu1
GeForce 8500GT
Nvidia 260.19.06ubuntu1

Open a 720p or 1080p h264 video in smplayer with external subtitles
(srt)

problem : when the first subtitle appear on screen, frames are dropped for a
couple of seconds.
Sometimes this happen too when no subtitles are used, but the dropped frames
are unpredictable, this may happen on a slow motion / low complexity scene.

The same video played with smplayer or totem using XV output plays fine
(not the 1080p of course, my celeron does not have the sufficient
horsepower)

VDPAU on 10.04 worked just fine, this problem appear to me with the 10.10
upgrade.
When using directly mplayer from the cli with vdpau, there is no slowdown when
subtitles appear. Must be something with the way smplayer handles subtitles.

The Sintel movie can be a good test for this problem :
http://www.sintel.org/wp-content/content/download.html
The Full 2048 x 872 px mp4 surround 5.1 with srt subtiles (bottom of the page)
is just fine.

Can I provide more useful informations?

The Full 2048 x 872 px mp4 surround 5.1 with srt subtiles (bottom of the page)

After some tests, I have found this :

- Install vdpau-va-driver, configure VLC to use GPU acceleration.
- The video with subs plays perfectly.

- Smplayer with vdpau : frames are dropped when a subtitle is drawn.

- Gnome Mplayer with vdpau : frames are dropped when a subtitle is
drawn.

This may be a Mplayer specific bug.

Can someone confirm this?
