[Bug 55150] The headphone jack in the docking station doesn't work
Public bug reported: I use a laptop (Dell D610) at office which is normally docked to the docking station. The external monitor, ethernet cable, etc. are connected through this docking station. Everything else works perfectly (USB connectors,etc.) but the headphone jack doesn't work. I've tested it on windows and works fine. When i connect the earphones tothe jack, the sound cannot be heard through the laptop speakers (like you'd expect), but no sound comes through the earphones as well. The earphone jack on the laptop works fine. Please revert if you need any other details or if i need to do more debugging. I'm running Ubuntu Dapper on the laptop with the latest updates installed. When I try to switch to the virtual consoles, I just get a black screen or some random colored pixels throughout the screen. If I run compiz, and switch back to X, system freezes. If i'm running metacity, then there's no freeze and I can work in X. Public bug reported: HI, I use a laptop Dell D610 with the AIT mobility M22 video card. I normally use the laptop when docked to the docking station which is connected to an external monitor (Dell 1905FP). I installed Gutsy a couple of days back and since then, it's not been able to switch to the resolution 1280x1024 (that the external monitor supports). I installed fglrx driver and that works well. I didn't have this issue with fiesty and ati open source drivers. I'll attach a screenshot of how the screen looks on the external monitor. @Guillaume -- That doesn't help. However, I figured out what had caused the issue. When i add 'vga=791' to the kernel boot options, this happens. If I remove this part, it works well. Hi Tormod, I recently installed Hardy Alpha and it didn't have this issue. However, I just updated my installation after the update-manager prompted that there were new updates. So with the new updates, I have the same problem :-( It was working fine till I installed the updates now. Hi, I'm also on Hardy and have all the updates installed. An update that i did a couple of days back triggered this issue. Unless there's a change in the state of the battery (either plug in AC power/remove AC), there's no change in the battery state that is displayed in the batter applet in the system tray. For e.g.: I had my laptop running on battery and then plugged in to AC power. At that time 57% of the battery had been discharged and that is the state that is shown on the batter applet till now. Hi Leann, I have now downloaded the Hardy Alpha 3 and also installed it on my system. Now, the headphone jack on the docking station actually works and the sound control seems to work (increasing/decreasing volume). However, there's a horrible 'shrill' noise along with the sound that is heard. The songs aren't as clear as on the laptop headphone jack. HI, My friend's laptop has the same problem. We installed Ubuntu 6.10 from CD, and immediately upgraded to Feisty. After the upgrade, when we rebooted the laptop, it booted but we just get the 'busy' mouse cursor and a blank screen. presumably gdm hangs. suspend/resume works for me too after i remove ricoh_mmc module. It didn't work earlier.
