I've kept my Hardy updated, and I still see this issue. I don't know
what you mean by 8.04.1. Is this some new release?

[Bug 55150] The headphone jack in the docking station doesn't work

2006-08-04 Thread Vikas BN
Public bug reported:

I use a laptop (Dell D610) at office which is normally docked to the docking
station.
The external monitor, ethernet cable, etc. are connected through this docking
station. Everything else works perfectly (USB connectors, etc.) but the
headphone jack doesn't work.

I've tested it on windows and works fine. When i connect the earphones tothe
jack,
the sound cannot be heard through the laptop speakers (like you'd expect), but
no sound comes through the earphones as well. The earphone jack on the laptop
works fine.

Please revert if you need any other details or if i need to do more
debugging. I'm running Ubuntu Dapper on the laptop with the latest
updates installed.

Thanks,

  My sytem:

I installed Gutsy couple of days back. Since then, I haven't been

[Bug 194719] Re: 01_proc_sys_batteries.patch causes a regression making gnome-power-manager not detecting the battery properly

2008-02-28 Thread Vikas BN
Hi,

I'm also on Hardy and have all the updates installed. An update that i did
a couple of days back triggered this issue. Unless there's a change in the
state of the battery (either plug in AC power/remove AC), there's no change
in the battery state that is displayed in the batter applet in the system
tray.

For e.g.: I had my laptop running on battery and then plugged in to AC power.
At that time 57% of the battery had been discharged and that is the state
that is shown on the batter applet till now.

The attached screenshot shows the battery applet. However 'acpi' output is
  different (and probably correct)

  $ acpi -b
Battery 1: charging, 98%, 48:00:00 until charged

2007-12-04 Thread Vikas BN
Hi,

  The output is as below:

  head #0: 1024x768 @ 0,0
  head #1: 1280x1024 @ 0,0

I got this when I logged in to the 'Failsafe X Terminal' session in
gdm.

[Bug 157313] Re: The headphone jack in the docking station doesn't work

2007-11-19 Thread Vikas BN
Hi Leann,

   I tried installing linux-backports-modules, however,
this hasn't helped. It's still not working.

[Bug 157313] Re: The headphone jack in the docking station doesn't work

2007-12-19 Thread Vikas BN
Hi Leann,

Thanks for the update. I'm using Gutsy now, is there a way to test
the Hardy kernel on my system without installing Hardy itself?

E.g: will a 'sudo apt-get install linux-kernel-x.x.xx' and rebooting into
 the new kernel suffice?

TIA,
-Vikas

[Bug 113067] Re: gdm hangs before login

2007-06-19 Thread Vikas BN
HI,

My friend's laptop has the same problem. We installed Ubuntu 6.10 from CD,
and immediately
upgraded to Feisty. After the upgrade, when we rebooted the laptop, it
booted but we just
get the 'busy' mouse cursor and a blank screen. presumably gdm hangs.

However as OP has seen, C-A-F1 etc. works and killall gdm && startx
works fine.

seems to be a bug with GDM.

   the laptop specs are:
   Dell inspiron 1501,
   AMD Turion64 Processor,
   ATI video card.
