[Bug 897173] [NEW] [CA0106 - CA0106, playback] No sound at all after installing few updates. Maybe after an update in kernel version

2011-11-28 Thread Venkat P
Public bug reported:

Source Package : gnome-volume-control

Description:Ubuntu 11.04
Release:11.04

'apt-cache policy pkgname' is returning error - 'N: Unable to locate package
pkgname'
Ubuntu Software Center 4.0.5ubuntu0.1

I installed Ubuntu 11.04 and made an initial update after which my sound
card was working fine. I have an on-board sound device along with a
Creative Soundblaster 5.1VX sound card in PCI slot. Though both were
enabled previously, there was no problem of conflict. I have a dual boot
of Windows 7 parallel to this Ubuntu installation.

After using for 3 days, there is no sound coming from my speakers. Tried
all the methods suggested in Audio troubleshooting in Ubuntu support
website. I installed various updates offered in the Update manager
during these 3 days. So, I'm also doubtful about any conflicts that
might have arose after an update. The sound card is still being
recognized but there's no sound from the speaker.

Ran the command "alsamixer" in terminal and found nothing muted. Checked
all sound settings and found none muted. Checked PAVU, PA Device
Chooser, Default Sound Card and GNOME ALSA Mixer.

Outputs of some commands I executed in the terminal :

venkat@Powerstation:~/Desktop$ aplay -l | grep card

Any guidance on this issue would be great.

P.S. : I had similar problems with my Ubuntu 10.10. Initially, sound
works well and later after few days, sound goes dead. However, 10.10 was
removed and I installed a fresh version of 11.04 but the problem still
persists.

Forgot to mention, I disabled my default sound on motherboard from boot
menu but didn't do the trick.

[Bug 731660] Re: [Ubuntu 10.10 0 - Soundblaster CA0106] ALSA test tone not correctly played back & no sound playing in any application, including system sounds

2011-11-29 Thread Venkat P
Thanks a million hn-bakkar, your small tweak has brought back my sound.
Just by disabling IEC958 in GNOME ALSA Mixer, I got my sound back. I 'm
really happy for getting back the sound. Thanks again for sharing the
solution
