[Bug 456769] Re: alsa power-saving ambarass my laptop's mute led

2009-11-01 Thread Trafex
I've this to with a HP Pavilion DV9000 laptop. The annoying thing is
that when the mute turns off, my laptop makes a *plop* sound. This
happens every time when the sound is automatically turned on again.

[Bug 470495] [NEW] notify-send stops working after starting Rhythmbox

2009-11-02 Thread Trafex
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: notify-osd

Some programs I use like thunderbird are using notify-send to show the
notification bubbles. They work fine until I start Rhythmbox. The notify-osd
process is still running and I still see notifications from the volume or
brightness changes, but notifications from notify-send don't show up.
Kill and restart notify-osd won't help, only a reboot works.

[Bug 470495] Re: notify-send stops working after starting Rhythmbox

2009-11-02 Thread Trafex
I was wrong, it's not caused by Rhythmbox. On an other workspace I started
VirtualBox in full screen mode. Because it's fullscreen all messages with a low
priority are hidden.
But this is not right, notify-osd must know on what workspace I am. Is there a
workaround for this problem?

[Bug 1624234] [NEW] Changing backlight doesn't work in Gnome

2016-09-16 Thread Trafex
Public bug reported:

With Unity I can change the backlight with the hotkeys out of the box, didn't
had to do anything to get that working.
I've now switched to Gnome (by installing ubuntu-gnome-desktop), but I've not
found a way to get the hotkeys working for the backlight again. I also don't
see the backlight slider in the upper right menu or in the settings.

I've tried everything on this page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight
I've tried different combinations in my grub configuration:
video.use_native_backlight
acpi_backlight=vendor
acpi_backlight=none
thinkpad-acpi.brightness_enable=1 acpi_backlight=vendor
thinkpad-acpi.brightness_enable=1 acpi_backlight=none
acpi_osi="!Windows 2012"
acpi_osi=linux
thinkpad-acpi.brightness_enable=1 acpi_osi=

I've also added 'EnableBrightnessControl' to my xorg.conf.

Unfortunately, nothing changes.
And /sys/class/backlight/ is always empty.

The only thing that did make a difference was adding 'acpi_os=' to my grub
config.
This did show the backlight slider in the settings & menu. And did show the
pop-up when changing the backlight via the hotkeys.
Unfortunately, it didn't change the backlight. And the slider didn't go futher
than 5% or something.

During all my tests xbacklight always worked. That's the only way to change my
backlight in Gnome atm. Only when I added 'acpi_os=' xbacklight stopped working.

[Bug 1624234] Re: Changing backlight doesn't work in Gnome

2016-09-17 Thread Trafex
It started happening when I switched to Gnome. At first I had both Gnome and
Unity next to each other and when I logged in to Unity, I could still change
the backlight normally.
It only doesn't work under Gnome strangely.

I've tested the new kernel, but it had no effect:
Linux 4.8.0-040800rc6-generic #201609121119 SMP Mon Sep 12 15:21:03 UTC 2016
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

[Bug 1371828] Re: After updating nvidia-common to 1:0.2.91.7, nvidia drivers are no longer in use

2014-09-23 Thread Trafex
I think I've the same problem.
Updated yesterday, started my computer this morning and after the boot screen
I'm only seeing a blinking cursor on a black screen.
Tought it had something todo with lightdm, but nothing I tried fixed it.

After that I've removed all nvidia packages: sudo apt-get purge nvidia-*
Rebooted, and choose the nvidia-331-updates driver I was using before (via
Additional Drivers).
This gave the blinking cursor again. So I've tried the other drivers
(nvidia-331, nvidia-304, nvidia-304-updates), but none of these installed
correctly. After every reboot I got the failsafe mode from Xorg.

I've also tried to downgrade nvidia-common to 1:0.2.91.4, but this again
caused to fallback in the failsafe mode.

Ps. I'm also missing the nvidia-xconfig command, used it a few days ago.

2014-09-23 Thread Trafex
I've fixed it by not only downgrading nvidia-common to 1:0.2.91.4 but also
ubuntu-drivers-common to 1:0.2.91.4.
After that I've reinstalled the nvidia-331-updates and everything works again.

[Bug 1297849] Re: Virtual private network connection fails after distribution upgrade due to outdated Network Manager configuration files

2014-11-10 Thread Trafex
This doesn't fix it for me, none of the workarounds work for me.
The only thing that resolves this is logging out and back in, this is what I do
every morning, logging in and out twice.

I'm affected by this bug since I upgraded to 14.10, but a colleague of mine has
the exact same issue with a fresh 14.10 install.
Is there anything I can do to speed up resolving this bug? I personally think
this is the most annoying bug since years of professional Ubuntu use.

[Bug 1297849] Re: Virtual private network connection fails after distribution upgrade due to outdated Network Manager configuration files

2014-11-12 Thread Trafex
@Pavel Boldin; I've the debug log attached.
I first tried to capture the output of the nm-applet as described, but then it
didn't showed me my VPN configuration.
So I added the debug config to the network manager and rsyslog.

This is the result when I tried to connect to 'vpn.myhost.com', hope it
can help to find the cause.

[Bug 894325] [NEW] wifi disconnects randomly and gives a authentication timeout

2011-11-24 Thread Trafex
Public bug reported:

I get randomly disconnected from the wifi network. When I watch the
syslog I see a warning that might explain it. The full syslog is
attached in the bugreport but below I've added the important part.

When I disabled and enable my wifi adapter I can connect again.
The security for the wifi accesspoint is WPA2 - Enterprise - AES with PEAP
authentication and MSCHAPv2.
