[Bug 160954] Automatic resizing of NTFS fails in installer
Public bug reported: When selecting the first choice of 7.10 live cd installer's partitioner ("Resize and use freed space"), the resize fails after contemplating the choice for ten minutes. Old partition was a NTFS on a sata drive. ** Affects: partitioner (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Automatic resizing of NTFS fails in installer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160954 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 160952] Installation partitioning stuck with unused partition
Public bug reported: When installing from the 7.10 live cd, the partitioning gets stuck when manually creating a new partitioning table and selecting the first partition as unused (for installing Windows later) as the first partition. Can be worked around by closing the installer window, restarting the installer and formatting the first partition as fat32. The original partition table had just one NTFS partition, if that affects the bug. ** Affects: partitioner (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Installation partitioning stuck with unused partition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160952 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 894693] [NEW] Suggested package "firmware-linux" does not exist
Public bug reported: xserver-xorg-video-radeon suggests to install firmware-linux, which does not exist. Bug #565482 was marked not fix, because the suggestion already exists in Debian. However this is not a bug in there, since that package does indeed exist in Debian, but not in Ubuntu. The correct package in ubuntu is linux-firmware, which combines the debian packages firmware-linux-free and firmware-linux-nonfree (firmware-linux is a metapackage that pulls in both of the real packages). linux-firmware is crucial because without the radeon microcodes, using the radeon driver would be impossible (see http://wiki.x.org/wiki/radeonBuildHowTo#Missing_firmware). The problem hasn't manifested because many people have linux-firmware already installed due to other dependencies. However I do not believe that is a proper reason to leave the dependencies of this package broken in purpose, especially when this is trivial to fix. For example people running their own custom kernels wouldn't have the firmware package pulled in at all (and please don't go and say that only power users do that and power users don't matter). ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: maverick natty oneiric precise -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/894693 Title: Suggested package "firmware-linux" does not exist To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/894693/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

There shouldn't be a version that stops playing when shell is used. The version 1.49 does have a bug that crashes the cplay when !shell is used, but this is fixed now. Note that if you have a long running external command, then cplay won't progress to the next track if it's still waiting for the shell to finish. Assuming this report is about the crash using shell. [Bug 576744] Re: Unable to modify brightness when the screen is locked
I'm not what is required to raise the importance of the bug, but this is much more major usability problem than just "low". Given a non technical user, the screen is just black without any hints on what the user can do. This is equivalent to the system just plain crashing or freezing. A more clever user might attempt to write the password blindly, and even try pressing the caps lock if the first attempt doesn't work, but this is just unacceptable. It's even worse in natty, where the brightness goes to zero when removing the power cable, even if all relevant settings are disabled in power management GUI. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/576744 Title: Unable to modify brightness when the screen is locked -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 509180] Re: ecryptfs sometimes seems to add trailing garbage to encrypted files
I have deleted (again) the unreadable files, but I think a week is unreasonably short time to verify the fix, as this bug does not have a certain way to reproduce. Also I don't see how it makes sense to remove the fix AND close the bug without verification leaving it certainly not fixed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/509180 Title: ecryptfs sometimes seems to add trailing garbage to encrypted files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ecryptfs/+bug/509180/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 509180] Re: ecryptfs sometimes seems to add trailing garbage to encrypted files
I tried "cat /dev/zero > zerofile" since heavy writing / disk exhaustion seemed to be related to the problem. And sure enough, after the empty space went to zero, same errors appeared again to dmesg. After deleting the zerofile I logged out and tried to login, but it failed. Then I tried to shutdown cleanly, but it failed. After a hard reboot the disk space had been freed, and the .Private contained again zero length files. The perm trick reveals that zeroed files include gnome applet files and other stuff that logically could have been written into without user action. All of them are now completely unreadable due to input/output errors. I'd say that ecryptfs is still extremely dangerous to use due to data corruption problems in a common scenario, writing too much. It simply cannot be offered to users without any kind of warning that this happens.
I'm now getting the same errors in dmesg, in fact I'm not doing anything and there's just more and more (seems like two errors every two seconds). *But* there's no zero sized files under .Private so I no longer can even remove them and cannot get rid of the erros even temporarily...
