This traceback is what happened when run from the command line. 
It appeared to get allot further in subsequent trials. Passes the splash screen 
at least.

I can confirm that the bug makes LyX entirely unusable. Also it doesn't
exist in a recent build of LyX from SVN. Assuming patch has been applied
upstream.
